Leeds Utd Star Is "Brave" In Face Of Horrific Indicent

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has been subjected to vile threats online and journalist Dean Jones has rightfully condemned them as being 'outrageous'.

What's the latest news involving Patrick Bamford?

As per The Mirror, Bamford was subjected to death threats on social media last Saturday following Leeds United's 2-2 stalemate with Newcaste United in the Premier League, in a match where the Englishman missed a crucial penalty.

Leeds United have released a club statement on events, reading: "Overnight Patrick Bamford and his family have received completely unacceptable online abuse including several threats via Twitter. The time for this behaviour to stop is now. Those making threats do not reflect our fan base and are not welcome at our club. We would like to thank all those supporters who have reached out to Patrick and his family to show their support."

Bamford has made 30 appearances in all competitions this season for his current employers, registering six goals and four assists, as per Transfermarkt.

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe was also attacked by a fan on the pitch during the clash and has since been arrested and charged with assault, as cited by ITV.

Speaking to Football FanCast, journalist Jones condemned the abuse received by Bamford in the strongest possible terms.

Jones told FFC: "It’s obviously outrageous that a penalty miss can lead to death threats. The problems that players have to deal with in such moments is scary and the implications on how he might perform over the next two games could also be a problem. He’ll want to score crucial goals, no doubt, but being a striker is also about being brave to keep putting yourself in positions that could go wrong and that takes a lot of mental strength for him now."

What next for Leeds United?

Leeds United manager Sam Allardyce and striker Bamford can only focus on things they can control on the field as they try to secure their Premier League status.

The Whites currently sit a point adrift of safety in 18th position with two matches still to play in the Premier League table and will hope to catch either Everton or Nottingham Forest before the close of play.

Leeds bossSam Allardyce

Nevertheless, Leeds United face a tough run-in, with tussles against West Ham United at the London Stadium this weekend and a home tie against a Tottenham Hotspur side chasing continental football on the final day of this season, as per Sky Sports.

Survival will be a tough ask given the position the Whites find themselves in at present, though Allardyce will be hoping his experience as a relegation-fighting specialist can inspire a miracle at Elland Road.

Na próxima rodada, o Guarani recebe o Oeste, no Brinco de Ouro, dia 31 de agosto. O Náutico enfrenta o Figueirense, no estádio dos Aflitos, dia 1º de setembro.

A partida

Jean Carlos cobrou escanteio, Fernando Lombardi cabeceou tirando do goleiro, a bola passou raspando a trave e quase o gol saiu.

Gilson Kleina, técnico do Náutico, fez duas alterações e a equipe passou a pressionar o Guarani. E a insistência do Timbu deu resultado.

Nadine de Klerk weathers the Storm with unbeaten 106

South African allrounder strikes 13 boundaries as The Blaze chase down 276 with 12 balls to spare

South Africa all-rounder Nadine de Klerk struck a magnificent unbeaten 106 as The Blaze fought back to beat Western Storm by four wickets in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy at Trent Bridge.Chasing 276 for victory, the home side looked to be heading for a fifth defeat in six matches when they slipped to 137 for 6 following Natasha Wraith’s impressive career-best 73 in the Storm innings. But 24-year-old De Klerk turned things around in a superb unbroken 139-run partnership with 21-year-old wicketkeeper Ella Claridge (64 not out), whose half-century was her first in women’s regional cricket, as The Blaze won with 12 balls to spare.Earlier, wicketkeeper-batter Wraith had shared a fourth-wicket partnership of 93 with skipper Sophie Luff (37), who had earlier put on 66 for the second wicket with Fran Wilson (34) before useful lower-order runs from Chloe Skelton (29 not out) helped Storm made light of the absence of England duo Heather Knight and Danielle Gibson to total to 275 in 48.1 overs. Blaze captain Kirstie Gordon took 4 for 40 to lift her wickets tally to 11 for the campaign.England opener Tammy Beaumont, not selected for the forthcoming T20 series against Pakistan Women, hit 41, sharing an opening partnership of 52 with Teresa Graves (24), but The Blaze looked likely to suffer again in the absence of England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt and Scotland internationals Kathryn and Sarah Bryce until De Klerk and Claridge’s heroics won the day.The Blaze had won the toss and Sophie Munro removed Alex Griffiths with the second ball of the match courtesy of an edge to solitary slip Beaumont, but Gordon had to wait until the 14th over to see her decision to bowl first rewarded again, bringing about the breakthrough with her own left-arm spin as Wilson’s sweep flew off a top-edge to short fine leg.Gordon followed up by bowling Smale to leave Storm 70 for 3, after which the Blaze skipper looked to apply the squeeze with spin at both ends. But Wraith and Luff countered by going on the offensive, adding another 50 in just 40 deliveries, Wraith hitting a maximum down the ground off Gordon before knocking leg-spinner Josie Groves out of the attack with three fours in four balls. The fourth-wicket pair plundered more runs against the off-spin of Lucy Higham before Groves, replacing England’s Sarah Glenn in the one change to the Blaze line-up, returned to have Luff caught at long-off thanks to an excellent catch on the run by Munro.Wraith continued unchecked, passing her previous best of 68 when she pulled left-armer Ballinger for her 11th four. She fell in the next over, caught behind off a top edge, and when Gordon then dismissed Katie Jones and Niamh Holland in the space of four deliveries, the home side looked to be wresting back control with Storm 207 for 7.Yet Skelton, who hammered the unfortunate Ballinger for five consecutive fours, led the way as the Storm tail wagged vigorously, the last three wickets adding 68 vital runs, punctuated by a second success each for De Klerk and Munro before Graves ended the innings with her only delivery. In reply, The Blaze were going well until the last over of the opening powerplay, when Smale struck with her first ball as Luff turned to spin for the first time. The left-armer induced the thinnest of tickles as Graves, who had played nicely for her 24, was caught behind on the leg side. From 52 without loss, Blaze stumbled badly. Smale picked up the crucial wicket of Beaumont, whose swing and miss ended with her middle stump out of the ground, before leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington removed Marie Kelly with the help of an excellent catch by Griffiths at gully and had Beth Gammon leg before.Gordon perished for 16, adjudged leg before trying to work Skelton’s off-spin through the on side, and Munro was bowled through the gate by seamer Griffiths.Storm were now well on top with Blaze 137 for 6, but there was no shifting De Klerk, who pounced on almost any delivery that was short or wide, completing her second half-century for the East Midlands side off 62 balls with six boundaries.Having lost five partners before that milestone, she at last found one to stick with her in Claridge, who grew in confidence, her fifth boundary, forcefully driven through the covers off Skelton, bringing up a century partnership for the seventh wicket in 17 overs, with 37 needed from the final six overs.De Klerk brought up her hundred from 112 balls with 12 fours before winning the match with a six, slog-swept off Griffiths.

Newcastle eyeing Nicolas Jackson

An update has emerged on Newcastle United and their interest in Nicolas Jackson ahead of the January transfer window…

What’s the talk?

According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies are one of the Premier League clubs eyeing up the 21-year-old winger after being impressed by his performances.

The report claims that Everton and Newcastle have both been tracking the youngster this season, whilst Aston Villa have now joined the race for his signature due to his pre-existing relationship with Unai Emery – who managed him at Villarreal.

It is stated that the attacker will be available on a pre-contract deal in January as his current terms with the Spanish side expire at the end of the campaign.

Eddie Howe’s own Neymar

Newcastle could land the manager his own version of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar as Jackson has been compared to the Brazil international in his home country of Senegal.

Journalist Ashley Preece described him as a player with “bags of potential” and, at the age of 21, he is not someone who would be joining the club with the expectation of being an instant star.

Jackson is a player who could be signed with a view to the future as he is someone Howe could work with over the course of a number of years to help him live up to the Neymar comparisons.

The wide man, who journalist Josh Bunting once dubbed “exciting”, has shown plenty of promise in his short career so far. He scored seven goals and provided eight assists in 27 appearances for Villarreal B, playing 25 of those matches in the third tier of Spanish football.

His form in the B team led to him being given a first-team chance this season and he has caught the eye with two goals and two assists, whilst creating four ‘big chances’, in eight La Liga starts. He has also scored one goal in one start in the Europa Conference League for the Yellow Submarine, which shows that he has the potential to thrive on the European stage as well as domestic level.

This means that he has five direct goal contributions in nine starts between those two competitions and shows that he could be a terrific signing for Newcastle, as he has the scope to develop into a player capable of regularly delivering quality in the final third.

He may not go on to score 289 career goals like Neymar but he is a versatile and tricky player who can play anywhere across the frontline and has the ability to be a difference-maker in matches, just like the Brazilian.

It appears to be, on paper, a worthwhile gamble for Newcastle to snap Jackson up on a free transfer as he has shown huge potential at Villarreal and could develop into Howe’s own phenomenal wing talent.

Nottingham Forest can unearth Hammond

Nottingham Forest spent £150m over the summer in an ambitious effort to build a team that could compete comfortably in the Premier League this season. However, it hasn’t exactly worked out the way it was planned.

The Tricky Trees are currently 20th in the league table with just nine points from their first 13 outings so far, and Steve Cooper will undoubtedly be frustrated with how the season has started for his new-look team.

With 23 new signings, combining top-flight and international experience, it was hoped that Forest would’ve done enough in recruitment to retain their status in the top tier of English football but now Evangelos Marinakis will need to go back to the drawing board after the side’s struggles and poor performances.

However, instead of reaching into his pockets even deeper in January to fix the obvious problems in the attacking threat at The City Ground, he could save millions by encouraging Cooper to unearth some talent from the blossoming academy.

One player who has been a standout performer rising through the ranks at youth level on Trentside is Welsh centre midfielder Oliver Hammond.

The 19-year-old talent has been hard at work in the U18 and U21 teams, scoring eight goals and delivering two assists over 32 appearances so far from his role in the centre of the pitch.

The former Forest U18s captain has been lavished with praise in the past by The Athletic’s Paul Taylor who claimed that Hammond is a livewire.

He said: “Oliver Hammond is an 18-year-old who apparently has Duracell batteries in him. Can get around the pitch with lots of energy.”

The teenager committed his future to the Tricky Trees when he signed his professional contract in March last year, which led to even more praise for his by U18s head coach Gareth Holmes, who stated:

“He’s shown an excellent commitment and desire to learn throughout his scholarship.”

“He plays with energy and intelligence. He needs to continue to work hard to increase his involvement with the 23s and beyond.”

Cooper is clearly keen on the talented teenager as he spent the entirety of pre-season training with the senior team, and must have impressed his fellow Wales native as he was featured on the bench for two games this term which will be a huge confidence boost for the youngster.

With that being said, the future is looking bright for Hammond at Nottingham Forest and if he can continue to flourish with the U21s there is no doubt that he could earn a place in the senior team sooner rather than later.

West Brom suffer Karlan Grant injury blow

West Bromwich Albion striker Karlan Grant is expected to be out injured for around three to four weeks, according to an update from reliable journalist Lewis Cox.

The Lowdown: Grant injured in midweek

The Baggies picked up a much-needed 1-0 victory at home to Blackpool in midweek, with Okay Yokuslu’s goal the difference between the two teams.

It wasn’t all positive on the night for Carlos Corberan, though, as Grant picked up an ankle injury and was substituted during the second half.

The length of the attacker’s expected absence has been confirmed as West Brom suffer another injury setback ahead of today’s clash away to Queens Park Rangers.

The Latest: Lengthy layoff confirmed

Taking to Twitter on Friday, Cox confirmed that Grant would be out until the World Cup break, returning in the next several weeks.

The Express & Star reporter stated:

“Karlan Grant (ankle) out for three/four weeks and will miss next two games pre-World Cup.”

The Verdict: Undoubted blow for Baggies

Grant may not always be the most prolific of strikers for West Brom, only scoring three goals in 17 Championship appearances this season, but this update is certainly a blow for him and his club.

EFL on Quest presenter Colin Murray has described the 25-year-old as a ‘valuable’ member of the Baggies’ team, for whom he was a regular last term as he scored 18 league goals, and his effort and industry will surely be missed away to QPR on Saturday afternoon.

The hope is that Corberan’s side still have enough to see off the west London outfit, although the hosts sit fourth in the table currently and will clearly go into the game as the favourites against the 23rd-placed Baggies.

Aston Villa could be offered Franck Kessie

Aston Villa could soon be offered the chance to sign Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie in a deal which would see Douglas Luiz head to the Nou Camp.

The Lowdown: New deal for Luiz

The Brazilian was heavily linked with a move away from Villa Park over the summer, with Arsenal reportedly making three bids for the player on transfer deadline day.

The 24-year-old has since signed a new long-term deal in the Midlands, but that hasn’t stopped rumours circling once again heading into 2023.

The Latest: Luiz for Kessie swap?

Calciomercato shared a story on Monday regarding Luiz and Barcelona. They claimed that the Spanish giants have identified the Villa midfielder as a January target and are even readying an offer for him.

The report states that Barcelona are ‘seriously considering’ using Kessie as part of a deal for Luiz, despite the Ivory Coast star only joining the Blaugrana in the summer.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/aston-villa-latest-updates-4/” title=”Aston Villa latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Interesting

Kessie, who was labelled a ‘complete player’ by his former AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli, was linked with a move to the Midlands earlier this year.

Valued at €35m (£30.8m) by Transfermarkt, the 25-year-old has played in a variety of midfield roles for Barcelona, making 13 appearances in all competitions.

Who knows, Unai Emery and Villa may well entertain the idea of a potential swap deal involving the two midfielders despite Luiz’s new contract, so this could be one to watch heading into 2023.

Everton: Lampard can unleash Seb Quirk

Everton are making the most of the World Cup break by flying out to Australia to take part in the Sydney Super Cup and Frank Lampard will surely be thankful for the pause in Premier League football after a horrible run of results.

The Toffees are now just one point outside the relegation zone in 17th after losing three of their last five top-flight fixtures so a break in the season could be exactly what the manager needs to get his squad into shape ahead of their return to action after Christmas.

Indeed, Everton have several players who have travelled to the World Cup in Qatar as Jordan Pickford, Conor Coady, Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye will all represent their respective countries in the prestigious international tournament, so Lampard will now get the opportunity to look a bit closer at some of the remaining talents over the next few weeks.

One player who will be hoping to capture the attention of the former Chelsea boss is Everton U23s midfielder Sebastian Quirk, with the player confirming his golden opportunity to travel with the squad on social media.

Despite having no senior appearances yet for the first team, the 20-year-old sensation has been showcasing his capabilities in the EFL Trophy this season, registering one assist and completing 50% of his dribbles over three appearances, as well as winning a seriously impressive four tackles and eight duels per game.

Not only that, Quirk has been a consistent performer in Everton’s Premier League 2 campaign, tallying up two assists in 11 appearances so far, proving that he is not only defensively gifted but also capable of being an attacking threat from the centre of the pitch.

The young midfielder – who is dubbed “versatile” in his bio on the Everton website – has displayed his defensive midfield talents whilst rising through the ranks in the academy since joining at just 11 years old. Judging by his impressive tackling ability, it’s evident that he is a clear contender to be a successor for Gueye who is in the latter stages of his career.

The Senegal international signed a two-year deal when he returned to Goodison Park this summer and it would be expected that the 33-year-old’s services will need to be replaced when his contract is up in 2024.

With that being said, the future is looking bright for Quirk and if he continues to flourish in the Everton academy as well as taking full advantage of his opportunities to catch Lampard’s eye in Australia there is no doubt it won’t be long before we see him in the senior team.

Leeds: Tyler Adams ran the show vs Wales

Leeds United saw two of their first-team stars take to the field in the Qatar World Cup on Monday evening, with both Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson featuring for the USA in a 1-1 draw with Wales at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.

And, while the latter struggled to make much of an impact on the game after being brought on as a second-half substitute, the former turned in an incredibly impressive display in the middle of the park.

Indeed, over the course of his 90 minutes on the pitch, the USA captain was extremely solid in a defensive capacity, making six tackles, two interceptions and one clearance, as well as winning six of his nine ground deals and two of his three aerial duels – at a success rate of 67%.

The £33.5m-rated talent also caught the eye going forwards, enjoying 86 touches of the ball – the second-most of any player to feature in the fixture – completing 62 of his 69 attempted passes – a success rate of 90% – finding his man with four of his five attempted long balls and taking one shot at the Wales goal.

These returns saw the 23-year-old earn an extremely impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.4, ranking him as the USA’s best performer on the day, while the Leeds midfielder also earned a great deal of praise for his display on social media.

Indeed, Sporting Life journalist Tom Carnduff appeared to be extremely impressed with Adams, stating in a post on Twitter: “Tyler Adams by far the best player on the pitch there. Seemed to be absolutely everywhere, doing absolutely everything.”

Meanwhile, freelance journalist Jacob Schneider also heaped praise on the American captain in his own tweet, stating: “Immense performance in the midfield from captain Tyler Adams today.”

As such, considering just how impressive Adams has been for Leeds since his £20m move from RB Leipzig this summer – with his average SofaScore match rating of 6.92 ranking him as Jesse Marsch’s fifth-best performer in the league – the midfielder’s dominating performance against Wales is further evidence that Victor Orta sealed a masterclass when landing the 33-cap star.
