Who do Newcastle United want to sign?

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are preparing a bid for Bayer Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba, with manager Eddie Howe hoping to make one more signing this month.

How good is Edmond Tapsoba?

Newcastle kicked off their Premier League season with an emphatic victory over Aston Villa at St. James' Park, dismantling Unai Emery's outfit 5-1 and reaffirming their stature as one of the division's very best.

Sandro Tonali scored mere moments into his debut and looked a complete and imperious playmaker in the middle, with journalist Damian Fasciani already saying his £55m transfer from AC Milan is "paying dividends".

He would act as the perfect counterweight to Sven Botman, who has been a veritable rock at the back since completing a £35m transfer from Lille last summer, integral in the rise to prominence.

Should Tapsoba arrive before the deadline, he could replicate Newcastle's success in dipping into German football following the signing of Joelinton from Hoffenheim for a club-record (at the time) £40m.

Indeed, the Brazilian striker-turned-midfielder flattered to deceive for much of his Tyneside career before remoulding himself over the past several years.

Joelinton has been hailed as "tireless" by writer James Nalton, while Magpies captain Kieran Trippier heralded the £85k-per-week gem as a "machine" for his sublime showings in the last year or so.

He ranks among the top 10% of midfielders for goals, the top 7% for successful take-ons, the top 13% for interceptions, the top 8% for blocks and the top 5% for aerials won per 90, as per FBref, and this all-embracing approach to his trade is akin to Tapsoba's, albeit in different thirds of the pitch.

Newcastle could replicate their Joelinton trick, this time to instant effect, by signing Tapsoba, who is dynamic and unflinching on the ball; his presence would enhance the Toon backline and Ashworth must work diligently to complete yet another astute Bundesliga transfer for the Tyneside team.

وأضاف: “جاءت لنا الفرصة وعلينا الحفاظ عليها، الجمهور يدخل لكي يكون سعيدًا ويشجع فريقه، وبالتالي لا بد أن يكون معك (فان أي دي) ولو فعلت مشكلة الكاميرات ستصورك، ولو هناك شغب النادي سيتحمل غرامات مالية كبيرة، وقانون الرياضة يمنع الإهانة لأن هذا عقوبته تصل للغرامة والحبس”.

وافاد: “رابطة الأندية والاتحاد والوزارة عليهم أن يقوموا بعمل توعية للجماهير”.

وعن تصريحات حسام حسن، قال: “فرصنا حاليًا أفضل في تصفيات كأس العالم فالظروف أفضل، والجهاز الفني والإداري للمنتخب جدد، حسام وإبراهيم حسن معروف إنجازاتهما، خاضا تجربة احترافية ولعبا لأكبر ناديين وحققا انجازات، جاء وقتهما لتدريب منتخب مصر، نحن دورنا أن نوفر لهما كل الظروف الملائمة ولا نحكم مبكرًا”.

واستكمل: “أمامنا مباراة مقبلة لمنتخب مصر في شهر يونيو المقبل ثم لقاء آخر شهر ديسمبر في تصفيات كأس العالم، والمهمة ليست سهلة وليست صعبة، وأمامنا كأس أمم إفريقيا بالمغرب 2025، فيجب أن يحصل الجهاز الفني على وقته، ويؤدي بجهد كبير، حسام حسن أصلح من تصريحاته اليوم وقال إنه تم تحريف تصريحاته”.

وأضاف: “الجيل الذي كان متواجدًا مع حسن شحاته، كان معظمه محليين ولا يوجد محترفين، الجيل الحالي متواجد فيه 7 محترفين وفي أندية كبيرة على رأسهم محمد صلاح، والباقي في الدوري المحلي، الدوري المصري مقارنة بباقي الدوريات هو أقوى دوري في قارة إفريقيا”.

Pakistan will once again have to do without the bowling services of Mohammad Hafeez, after he was suspended from bowling in international cricket by the ICC. An independent assessment at Loughborough University found Hafeez’s action to be illegal – the third time in recent years that has been the case.Hafeez, currently the world’s top-ranked ODI allrounder, was reported for a suspect action after the third ODI against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi last month and underwent his assessment in Loughborough two weeks ago.The assessment, according to an ICC release, revealed that a majority of Hafeez’s deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the ICC’s regulations. Data on Hafeez’s action was captured for four overs’ worth of deliveries – the data that is recorded is only for those deliveries where testers are satisfied that the match action has been replicated in the lab. It is believed that less than half a dozen deliveries were within the 15-degree limit, but that margins he was over by were not as big as, for example, Saeed Ajmal’s when he was suspended a few years ago.That will be of little consolation to Pakistan, for whom the availability of Hafeez’s bowling this year has been a major factor in their resurgence in white-ball cricket. They have risen to the top of the T20 rankings and won the Champions Trophy in June in some part because Hafeez was back bowling – his availability offered Pakistan not only control at one end, but the flexibility to choose a number of attack-minded, wicket-taking options.It leaves Hafeez to ponder over the future of his bowling once again. Under ICC rules, though this is the third time he has been suspended from bowling in three years, he will be able to return to bowling as soon as he has rectified his action and passed another assessment. There is a suggestion, however, that he will give himself as much time as he needs to resolve issues in his action before he applies for a re-assessment. He tweeted after the news of his suspension came out that he will work twice as hard to rectify his action this time.Hafeez’s action was first reported in November 2014, during a Test series against New Zealand and suspended from bowling in December. By April 2015, he had remodelled his action enough to satisfy another test and he was cleared to bowl again. Just a couple of months later, however, he was reported again during the Galle Test against Sri Lanka. Tests confirmed again that his action was illegal, and because his action had been found illegal twice within a period of 24 months, he was automatically suspended from bowling for 12 months.Though it hasn’t happened before, if a bowler returns and is found to have an illegal action once again after this – as has now happened with Hafeez – he goes back to square one; that is, there is no bar on how soon he can return to bowling provided he has corrected his action and cleared an assessment. In a different time, Hafeez’s action was called in Australia as well – back in 2005 – while just before he was reported in November 2014, he was also reported in a Champions League T20 game in India.One thing in Pakistan’s and Hafeez’s favour is a relatively light international schedule. It will be difficult for Hafeez to start bowling again in time for Pakistan’s next assignment, a limited-overs series in New Zealand in January. There is the possibility of a T20 series against West Indies in Pakistan in March, but otherwise they are not scheduled to play any international cricket until the tour to England in May.In the interim will be the PSL where, according to ICC regulations, he can bowl should the PCB choose to allow it. In the first PSL in 2016, however, when Hafeez was serving a 12-month suspension, the league chose to not allow him to bowl. Hafeez was also expected to fly out to the Bangladesh Premier League on Friday, to play for Comilla Victorians, but is now expected to skip the tournament and instead concentrate on working on his action.

Nottingham Forest are pushing to sign Monaco and France midfielder Youssouf Fofana this summer, but there could yet be a twist in the saga, according to reliable journalist David Ornstein.

How good is Youssouf Fofana?

The 24-year-old has risen to become a highly-rated footballer who is a key man for Monaco, making a total of 141 appearances for them to date.

In that time, Fofana has scored three goals and registered 11 assists, and he also featured six times for France at the 2022 World Cup, helping them reach the final that they eventually lost to Argentina.

The Frenchman's current Monaco deal expires at the end of next season, however, leaving them in something of a tricky situation when it comes to his future. Assuming he doesn't sign an extension, the Ligue 1 team will either have to sell him this summer in order to receive good money for his services or accept that he will be able to leave on a free transfer next June.

There is certainly interest in Fofana currently, which is no great surprise considering his ability, and with Forest looking to make some significant moves in the transfer market in the next couple of weeks, it appears as though the Reds are in the mix to sign him.

Will Nottingham Forest sign Youssouf Fofana?

Taking to Twitter X, The Athletic's Ornstein dropped a key update regarding Fofana's future, claiming that Forest have made a big verbal offer, but there is a twist with other clubs still looking to hijack the deal:

"Nottingham Forest have made verbal proposal to sign Youssouf Fofana from Monaco. €35m + add-ons offer meets #ASMonaco expectation. #NFFC also speaking with 24yo France int’l to try to agree terms. Other clubs closely monitoring situation."

Forest signing Fofana would feel like a huge statement of intent by the club, considering his pedigree as a footballer and some of the clubs who have been linked with him recently, including Liverpool and Chelsea.

His performances in the heart of Monaco's midfield sum up what a great addition he would be at the City Ground this summer, having averaged 2.3 tackles per game across 36 league appearances last season, of which 35 were starts.

To have won 10 caps for a star-studded France side further outlines the quality at Fofana's disposal, and at 24 years of age, it would be a surprise if that tally didn't rise significantly as the years pass, especially as the likes of N'Golo Kante and Paul Pogba gradually move on from the international scene.

The midfielder has been described as a "wonderful" player by football talent scout Jacek Kulig and Forest snapping him up could add so much quality and character to their midfield, as they look to kick on from last season and ensure they don't get sucked into a relegation battle.

The Monaco man is now a proven player at the very top level – he came on during extra-time in the World Cup final against Argentine – so the Reds must do all they can to reach an agreement, in what could be a significant piece of business.

Arsenal are reported to be close to cashing in on the sale of Hale End graduate Folarin Balogun, leaving questions over whether Mikel Arteta will eye another striker.

The Spaniard has already signed versatile forward Kai Havertz this summer in attack, however with Gabriel Jesus only just nearing his return from injury, the Gunners have had to rely on Eddie Nketiah to lead the line so far this campaign.

Arteta has utilised Havertz in midfield at the Emirates, which is a plus for the German who excelled in such areas while at Bayer Leverkusen, however theoretically leaves Arsenal short in the depth of their strike department.

Who could Arsenal sign this summer?

Considering the injury blow to Jurrien Timber, it’s highly unlikely that the north Londoners will prioritise anything above signing a defender in the time remaining in the transfer window.

However, a swoop in January could come at the perfect time for one player that has been rumoured to be of interest to the Gunners.

A report from the Times has revealed that Brentford are braced for bids in the attempt to sign striker Ivan Toney in January, with Arsenal named as one of the ‘interested parties’.

The Englishman will be able to return to action in January 2024 from his eight-month ban from football due to betting breaches of the FA’s rulings, setting up a potentially exciting swoop for the north Londoners in the winter window.

It’s said that the forward is valued at £80m by the Bees, who will be reluctant to let the 27-year-old leave when he returns.

What could Ivan Toney offer to Arsenal?

Most clubs in the Premier League would be honoured to have a marksman as potent as Toney in their squad, not many more than Arsenal who are arguably a reliable goalscorer away from being in the same calibre as Manchester City.

Considering Balogun’s transfer status, it could be the ideal time for Arteta to consider a potential move for Toney, who revealed on the Diary of a CEO podcast his admiration for the Gunners.

In Balogun, the north Londoners could have had more potent goalscorer than the likes of Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus, with the American netting 21 times in Ligue 1 last season during his loan at Rennes.

On his return, it never seemed as though the 22-year-old’s future would be within Arteta’s squad, making the opportunity to cash in on him an attractive prospect for both parties.

While the Hale End graduates’ scoring streak was impressive, it was the first time he had consistently found the net at senior level, with his three goals scored on loan at Middlesbrough the season prior far from impressive.

In Toney, Arsenal could have the definition of an “extremely prolific” striker, as he was once lauded by talent scout Jacek Kulig.

Scoring 24 goals in his final campaign in League One at Peterborough before joining Brentford, where he then scored 31 goals in the Championship to fire the Bees to promotion, via Transfermarkt, there were naturally questions over whether he could do it in the top-flight.

During the two campaigns since Brentford’s promotion, the Englishman has scored on 32 occasions in the Premier League, including 20 goals last term, seeing him dubbed a “lion” by manager Thomas Frank in 2021.

Arsenal could ease the woes of Balogun’s departure by making a swift move for Toney in January, in a purchase that could make Arteta’s side forget all about the Hale End product and close the gap on City.

So, who will blink first in the first qualifier?Comilla will rely heavily on their experienced players Tamim Iqbal, Shoaib Malik and Marlon Samuels to complement the youthful brigade of Hasan Ali, Mohammad Saifuddin and Mahedi Hasan.
