Sussex Sharks strengthened their grip on the South Group in the Vitality Blast after easing to a four-wicket wicket win over Middlesex. A sold-out 6000 crowd at Hove saw third-placed Middlesex recover from 40 for 5 to 127 for 6 with Ollie Robinson taking 4 for 13. Despite losing two wickets in the power-play Sussex sealed their victory with 22 balls to spare.It was their sixth win in eight games with one match washed out and the other tied and means they have opened up a two-point lead at the top of the South Group.Australian Alex Carey, who was dropped at third man by Tom Helm off Steven Finn on 20, top-scored with 32 while skipper Luke Wright and David Wiese both made 26 with Wiese smashing two leg-side sixes, one of which cleared the main scoreboard, off Finn. Dan Lincoln played on for a duck, Dawid Malan inside-edged to wicketkeeper Carey and John Simpson was caught at short fine-leg after gloving Robinson’s short ball.Steve Eskinazi and George Scott took the score to 40 when Scott was leg before playing across the line in the ninth over to give Danny Briggs, who conceded just 16 runs in his four overs, a deserved wicket.Middlesex were in danger of being bowled out but Eskinazi and Toby Roland-Jones, who was dropped on 7 and 9, consolidated before pushing the accelerator in the final five overs as they added 76 off 57 balls with Eskinazi lodging his fifth T20 half-century.Roland-Jones supported him well with 40 off 34 balls including two fours and two sixes before Robinson yorked him in the penultimate over to claim his fourth wicket. Eskinazi finished on 57 not out from 48 balls with six boundaries.The visitors needed early wickets and soon had Sussex 15 for 2. Phil Salt was superbly caught on the run by Nathan Sowter at deep midwicket and Laurie Evans edged Mujeeb Ur Rahman to slip. Wright looked in good order until he mis-timed a drive and was taken at mid-off but Middlesex simply didn’t have enough runs to defend.

Leeds United are a frightening prospect to come up against in the Championship at the moment, seven wins on the bounce for Daniel Farke's self-assured Whites in the second tier seeing them shoot up to second in the division at the expense of Southampton.

Barely having to break a sweat last match to dispatch of Swansea City 4-0, Leeds will just want the victories to keep flowing on their travels down to Devon this Saturday against Plymouth Argyle.

Yet, the confident Whites could be even stronger currently if they'd just held on to this exciting left-back instead of binning him off in 2022.

Leif Davis' time at Leeds United

Nobody could have quite predicted what Leif Davis would go on to achieve with Ipswich Town when looking back at his humble beginnings in West Yorkshire, the now explosive 24-year-old unremarkable playing for Leeds after stepping up from the academy into the first-team mix.

The current Tractor Boys number three would only manage to pick up a solitary assist from 14 first-team appearances at Elland Road, before being chucked out to AFC Bournemouth on loan during the 2021/22 season.

After this loan switch to the Cherries – which saw Davis register similar forgettable numbers to his time in the senior fold with Leeds at one assist from 15 appearances – Leeds would cut ties with the dynamic defender which has proven to be a foolish move in retrospect.

Victor Orta wouldn't let Davis go for cheap however at the time, managing to at least get a respectable £1m to allow the 6-foot full-back to exit West Yorkshire.

Now, with Davis' transfer value coming in at a far greater €4.6m (£3.9m) according to Football Transfers, this is a deal Leeds will regret signing off on regardless of any money entering their bank.

Despite Junior Firpo coming into his own with four assists in a much-improved 2024 for the second-tier side, Davis could well have been an even more impactful assist king for Farke's men this season over the former Barcelona man.

What Leif Davis has achieved at Ipswich

Davis has become a man-possessed since making the switch to Suffolk, a crucial cog in Kieran McKenna's machine at Portman Road when it comes to Ipswich devastating teams with their full-throttle attacking play.

Since leaving Leeds behind, Davis has notched up 31 goals and assists combined with 30 of those coming at Ipswich across two unbelievable seasons for the 24-year-old.

Described as an "animal" by former Bournemouth manager Scott Parker despite never really showing his full potential on the South Coast, Davis is now living up to Parker's words with 13 assists managed this season in the second tier from just 28 games.

In stark contrast, Firpo – over his entire career to date – has only accumulated 16 assists with Davis only three off that total unbelievably in just one season.

With Leeds having troubles in the left-back spot this season owing to injury issues amongst many other dilemmas, it does feel like a case of what could have been if the promotion-chasing Whites had stuck by Davis instead of offloading him.

Leeds could well still have the final long-standing triumph over Davis at Ipswich this season regardless, however, as Farke and Co eye up consolidating an automatic promotion spot whilst Ipswich linger below in fourth.

وتابع: “أعضاء الجمعية العمومية مرحبين بتواجدي بمجرد ما استطلعت رأيهم، وقائمتي ستكون بين الخبرة والشباب بمجرد الإعلان عن موعد الانتخابات”.

وأفاد: “سبب وحيد سيجعلني لا أترشح لانتخابات اتحاد الكرة وهو ترشح هاني أبو ريدة، لا أستطيع أن أترشح أمامه”.

وأكمل: “اتحاد الكرة يحتاج إلى تجديد حقيقي وفعلي، يجب أن نغير ما يحدث في الكرة المصرية، توجد تجربة الدوري السعودي والمغرب، نحتاج إلى مواكبة كل ما حولنا، أفضل أن أترشح كرئيس لاتحاد الكرة أو لا أترشح نهائيًا”.

واستكمل: “ليس لي علاقة بأزمة كهربا مع الزمالك، كهربا خالف عقده مع الزمالك ولذلك تعرض للغرامة من الاتحاد الدولي”.

وواصل: “شيكابالا وقت تسليم درع الدوري قال لي أنت أهلاوي، لكن المراقب والحكم كتبوا أنه شتمني لذلك تم إيقافه في ذلك التوقيت”.

وأوضح: “مجلس إدارة اتحاد الكرة الحالي ظلم لأن عمرهم ما اشتغلوا مع بعض ولا اختاروا بعضهم رغم أنها قائمة موحدة، أعطى لجمال علام انسانيًا 9 من 10، لو سألت علام نفسه لن يكون راضي عن فترته في الجبلاية”.

وأشار: “رابطة الأندية ليس من حقها تغيير نظام بطولة الدوري ولكن تدير المسابقة فقط، الرابطة خطوة تحتاج إلى بعض التصليح وتهذيب في الإجراءات والأداء”.

وبسؤاله هل أنت ضد الأهلي؟ أجاب: “أنا اتولدت في الأهلي، منذ أن كان عمري 10 سنوات كنت أشجع الأهلي وأحضر المباريات في الثالثة شمال، الأهلي ملايين تشجعه ومؤثر في الرأي العام، وأن تكون ضده ليس منطقيا، وكذلك نادي الزمالك، لا ينفع أن يكون أحد ضد الناديين”.

وأثني: “أعظم من لمس الكرة في مصر محمود الخطيب، ومجدي عبد الغني واحد من أفضل لاعبو خط الوسط في تاريخ كرة القدم المصرية فقط”.

وأكد: “أحب حسام البدري وأحترمة جدًا، ومقدر تمامًا أنه كان حزينا بسبب رحيله، كنت أرى الكرة المصرية تحتاج إلى نقلة، كنت أرى كارلوش كيروش سيقدم شيئا كبيرا للكرة المصرية، وهذا لا يقلل من قيمة حسام البدري، وكيروش درب ريال مدريد ومانشستر يونايتد أنا متواجداً لمدة 35 سنة داخل مجال الكرة لم أرى أحد بهذا التركيز وهذه العبقرية، كيروش 100% رحل لأنني من أتيت لتدريب المنتخب، هو نفسه أرسل لي رسالة وقال لي ذلك”.

Leeds United have continued their restructuring under new ownership by snagging a Liverpool coach to improve their academy ranks, it has been revealed.

49ers take full control at Elland Road

Following the club's relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2022-23 season, 49ers Enterprises completed their purcahse of Leeds United from former owner Andrea Radrizzani, who had become increasingly unpopular at Elland Road as his side's top-flight fortunes waned.

At the time, CEO Angus Kinnear explained that '“49ers Enterprises is bringing fresh leadership, management, and a commitment to investment, which I’m confident will meet our ambition to compete for promotion and remain in the top flight as an established Premier League Club”, and that is something that has indeed transpired.

Daniel Farke was appointed as the club's new head coach, and has enjoyed a strong season as the Elland Road outfit bid to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking. He has guided them to second place in the Championship as things stand, and it seems certain that Leeds will at the very least get a shot at promotion through the play-offs, though they remain firmly in the hunt for the second automatic promotion spot behind Leicester City, who they sit nine points behind before the pair face off on Friday.

That overhaul has continued to take place behind the scenes too. Scott Gardner was appointed U21 head coach last month, while Jordan Miles was also appointed as head of recruitment. The club are hoping that the new additions should help them avoid reckless spending and instead build organically from within, with the club still bearing the scars of a desperate attempt to remain in the Premier League.

The £36m shelled out on Georginio Rutter continues to look steep despite his Championship form (17 goals and assists in 32 appearances), while the likes of Tyler Adams, Rodrigo and Luis Sinisterra have all been and gone at a loss for the club. They also have the likes of Maximilian Wober, Brendan Aaronson, Marc Roca and Rasmus Kristensen to deal with, all of whom are on loan.

Leeds poach Liverpool youth coach

As per Leeds Live's Beren Cross, the club have reached a deal with Liverpool coach Martin Diggle, who will take up a new role as academy manager at Elland Road.

A former Leeds Beckett University student, Diggle had been at Liverpool since 2019 after time spent with Bolton Wanderers and the FA, though it is unclear whether or not he will begin his work immediately or look to follow Jürgen Klopp out of Anfield this summer instead.

“The first one [at Edgbaston] was just a lazy one I missed on my legs. But I’ve always felt like I’ve been in form and worked my backside off in the nets as well. Then today was about trying to negate that good ball and not get out to it. I had a lot of luck, I played and missed quite a lot but I kept my bat nice and tight. That’s what I wanted to do and I was happy to get out if a good ball was going to get me out. I was very pleased with the way I adjusted. I moved across a little bit more so my bat was covering that off stump, allowed me to leave a little bit more.”A pre-match round of golf with Ricky Ponting, who had been an assistant coach with Australia during the World Cup and has now returned as a commentator, was also useful for sorting through the many thoughts in Warner’s mind. “Going out on the golf course with Ricky was great, always good to have my mate around and just let your hair down,” he said. “He was all about making sure I’m still backing my game plan, looking to get forward and looking to hit the ball, and I know when I’m looking to hit the ball my defence takes care of itself and I’m compact. That was fortunate enough today that it came off, but obviously you get another good ball there but can’t do anything about it.”Our top order, we all got good balls. We always knew that partnership with me and Marnus, that’s how cricket goes, you’re going to lose one straight away, if not the next five overs, but if you get through that, as a new batter, it can get a lot easier. Early back in their second spells there, it’s challenging. That’s the beauty of this game. It’s hard to start, especially when you have two world-class bowlers coming on who are hitting their line and length impeccably.”You are always nice and sharp when you have a lot of movement out there, you have to commit to the front foot or the back foot, you can’t get caught on the crease. I look back on the [World Cup] game against Pakistan and I got some runs there, it was green, and the ball was swinging and nipping around, and same thing, I just held my line and I pounced on anything that was wide or short. Today, you weren’t going to get that from Broady or Jofra. They bowled unbelievable. It’s always challenging, but as a batsman you have to stay in a positive mindset. A play and miss is a good shot.”Having watched Labuschagne up close and been on the receiving end of his ever-active cricket brain, providing plenty of advice about how to survive in the middle, Warner had little hesitation dubbing him a long-term Test batsman for the future – albeit with a caveat over his batting position. “Definitely, [but] not at four, Steve Smith’s there,” Warner said. “He’s just taken the bull by its horns, he’s got that opportunity and he’s working his backside off to reinstate himself into the Test arena and he is doing himself every favour by hanging in and batting the way he is, so obviously it wasn’t ideal that Steve couldn’t play but [Labuschagne] got another opportunity to come out and play. The partnership between Warner and Labuschagne stood out boldly amid the rush of wickets either side of it, underlining that there will be opportunities for Australia to take wickets provided they maintain their discipline.”For us it was about pushing the field,” Warner said, “we always spoke about running between wickets and we pushed the field as much as we could. That can break up some tension when they’re bowling well, just little things we were ticking over in our minds, we were running hard, we were leaving well, but make sure we are being ultra positive and that’s probably why we got that period.”We’ve got to come out tomorrow and hit the right lines and lengths, I think the weather is quite hot, it could dry the wicket out a lot. It’s a fast-scoring outfield so we have to hit the right line and length and try to shut the scoreboard down. It’s about discipline, they had the right phase today, they had the conditions in their favour but they put the ball in the right spot all the time so that’s the challenge.”Throughout his post-play press conference, Warner was being harangued by the chants of England fans who could see him speaking from outside the ground – typifying the abuse he has faced throughout the tour. “They are allowed to do want they want,” he said. “They pay to come in and watch cricket and are allowed to carry on if they want.”If they carry on too much they get evicted. For us we just worry about what we have to do. It’s hard enough trying to hit a swinging and seaming ball than worry about what the crowd are doing. They just come here to have fun, enjoy a good game of cricket and try and add some extra pressure on us. Some of us thrive on it like me, some of us don’t even listen to it.”

O Fluminense Football Club anuncia a assinatura de contrato de patrocínio com o Grupo Gazin – um dos maiores grupos empresariais do Brasil, no setor de varejo de móveis e eletrodomésticos, serviços, informática, atacado, fabricantes de colchões e e-commerce. A marca será estampada na propriedade Costas Superior do uniforme do time profissional do Tricolor já a partir da semifinal do Carioca, no domingo (09/05), às 16 horas, no Maracanã. O Contrato terá vigência de 12 (doze) meses.
