Da mesma forma que o Remo abriu a conta usando a bola levantada, os donos da casa conseguiram, na volta do intervalo, dois gols para inverter as condições do compromisso se valendo, essencialmente, de cruzamentos na grande área adversária. No primeiro deles, a falta batida do lado direito do ataque por Airton, Luizão se antecipou a saída de Thiago Coelho e testou pro fundo da meta remista. Somente dois minutos depois, um lance de bola rolando que se desenrolou pelo mesmo lado direito teve o cruzamento de Jhon Cley em que, na segunda bola, Thiago Alagoano bateu de perna esquerda no tento da virada do Brusque.

EDU NAS DUAS PONTAS

Se no primeiro tempo os anfitriões não conseguiram emendar chances perigosas na busca da igualdade, depois da virada o Quadricolor teve, pelo menos, três oportunidades em um curto espaço de tempo para marcar o gol que encaminharia o resultado positivo diante de seu torcedor.

Em penalidade cobrada por Edu, além do chute de Rodolfo Potiguar e no toque de Hugo Borges depois do cruzamento vindo da direita, o travessão e duas defesas fundamentais de Thiago Coelho quase seguraram o marcador na vantagem mínima até o apito final. Porém, já nos acréscimos, a bola levantada por Bruno Alves chegou limpa para Edu, que já tinha perdido um pênalti no jogo, marcar o seu 16° tento na competição.

Antes do apito final, o centroavante viveu uma situação inusitada onde, em penalidade cometida por Ruan Carneiro no lance em que o goleiro do Brusque levou a pior e precisou sair com todas as alterações já feitas, ele assumiu a meta catarinense. Na penalidade em questão, Edu defendeu a cobrança que foi convertida no rebote por Rafael Jansen, mas a arbitragem anulou o tento apontando invasão da grande área.

The 30-year-old was a pivotal part of Carlos Corberan's side last season, featuring 48 times in all competitions as West Brom lost out to eventual winners Southampton in the playoff semi-finals. The loss of Yokuslu will leave a massive hole at the base of the Baggies' midfield.

Joining his Turkish teammate in departing the Hawthorns was attacking talent Brandon Thomas-Asante. The Ghanaian forward had been West Brom's top scorer for the last two seasons but decided to move away from the club as he entered the final 12 months of his deal at the club.

Whilst Hull City long looked to be Thomas-Asante's chosen destination, Coventry City swooped in at the last minute to hijack the deal and keep the player in the Midlands. The 25-year-old has penned a four-year deal with his new club as he looks set to line up against the Baggies next season.

Despite things looking somewhat bleak going into the start of the season, there is some good news for the Hawthorns' faithful as West Brom appear linked to a number of new players. The most recent rumours have seen the club table a bid to sign Callum Styles from Barnsley.

With the higher ups at the Hawthorns facing a mammoth task to get West Brom's side ready to compete for the playoffs again, it appears that the Baggies are making moves to sign a new midfielder.

Baggies make offer for North Macedonian midfielder

As reported in the Swedish press and relayed by Sport Witness, West Brom are showing an interest in Djurgårdens IF midfielder Besard Sabovic. The outlet claims that the Baggies have even tabled an offer for the 26-year-old who is set to enter the final six months of his deal with the Allsvenskan side.

In spite of Djurgårdens' apparant reluctance to sell Sabovic this summer, it would be the club's last chance to fetch a fee for the player before he walks for free at the end of his contract. As the Swedish season kicked off back in April, Sabovic has already made 21 appearances for his side during this campaign, scoring five goals in the process, and his club are desperately trying to extend his deal.

With the departure of Yokuslu leaving a massive void in the Baggies' midfield, West Brom could take advantage of Sabovic's contract situation and bring in a replacement for the Turkish talent at what could be a bargain price if he does not pen an extended contract.

وواصل: “لا أعتقد أننا بقدر ما تفكر وسائل الإعلام في جدول الترتيب، فنحن نحاول الحصول على أفضل ما لدى اللاعبين والجهاز الفني، هؤلاء اللاعبين يعرفون كم سيستغرق هذا الموسم وكيف يجب أن يكونوا جيدين للفوز بشيء ما، وهو أمر لا يحدث كل أسبوع”.

وأردف: “لذلك نركز على جلسة جيدة اليوم ومباراة جيدة غدًا والطريقة الوحيدة للحصول على نتيجة هي العمل بأفضل أساس ممكن كل يوم”.

واستطرد: “يُظهِر هذا الموسم قوة الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز، حتى يوم أمس كان مفاجأة كبيرة أن نرى ساوثهامبتون ينافس مانشستر يونايتد وجهاً لوجه لفترة طويلة، لذا من الصعب الفوز في النصف الثاني من الموسم مقارنة بالأول”.

وأوضح: “الفرق تكون متحدة لفترة أطول، والبعض الآخر يجلب لاعبين وتنافس الفرق على أوروبا والألقاب والبقاء في الدوري؛ النصف الثاني من الدوري يكون دائمًا أكثر صعوبة، برينتفورد هو مثال للفريق الذي كان قويًا بالفعل في النصف الأول، فريق جيد جدًا لبضع سنوات حتى الآن، لقد أظهروا ذلك”.

وانتقل للحديث عن داروين نونيز وأفاد: “إنه تصورك وليس تصوري أنه يعاني من فقدان الثقة، لقد شارك في مباريات قوية ضد أكرينجتون وفولهام وسجل في مرمى ساوثهامبتون. لذا بالنسبة لي، إنها حياة المهاجم، في بعض الأحيان تسجل، وفي بعض الأحيان لا تسجل ولم يبدأ كل أسبوع”.

وواصل: “لقد سجلنا في كل مباراة باستثناء مباراة توتنهام في الكأس، لذا فهذا يعني أن لدينا أهدافًا في فريقنا، سوف يسجل داروين مثلما فعل بالفعل، لا أراه يعاني كثيرًا كما تراه”.

وبشأن استقبال الفريق للأهداف: “لا أعتقد أن هذا الأمر مقلق، لكن هذا ليس ما نريده، كانت إحدى نقاط قوتنا هي الحفاظ على نظافة شباكنا في وقت سابق، في بعض الأحيان يواجه المهاجمون صعوبات في التسجيل، وإذا نظرنا إلى الفرص التي نمنحها لهم قبل ذلك والآن، لا أرى الكثير من الاختلافات”.

وسُئل سلوت عن تجديد عقد إيرلينج هالاند مع مانشستر سيتي، ورد: :لا يتعلق الأمر بالاستثمارات، لكننا نعلم مدى جودة أدائنا حتى نتمكن من المنافسة، لذا فإن الأمر لا يتعلق بهذا النادي (مانشستر سيتي)، فقد أنفق مانشستر يونايتد وتشيلسي مبالغ هائلة”.

وأتم: “في بعض المواسم ينفق هذا النادي أكثر، وفي مواسم أخرى تنفق أندية أخرى أكثر، ولهذا السبب نريد جميعًا أن نكون هنا، نريد التنافس ضد الأفضل ونحن سعداء للغاية، نحن قادرون على المنافسة”.

After a few months of waiting, Arsenal are finally back in Premier League action, with a home tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers serving as the club’s opening game of the season.

Mikel Arteta’s side will be looking to go one better than they did last year and the campaign prior by finally ending their two-decade title drought.

However, Edu Gaspar and Co have made that task harder than it should be by remaining relatively inactive in the transfer market, with Riccardo Calafiori the only addition to the first team thus far.

That said, there have been plenty of links to some incredibly exciting attackers over the last few months, suggesting that some frontline reinforcements could still be brought in before that window slams shut.

However, a certain player will be hoping to put in an impressive enough performance this afternoon to dissuade Arteta from signing a new winger.

Arsenal's summer business

As mentioned above, while David Raya’s move has been made permanent and youngsters Tommy Setford and Lucas Nygaard have joined the club, the only new face added to the first team this summer has been Calafiori, who completed his £42m move from Bologna late last month.

However, while little has happened, there have been a plethora of links to some genuinely exciting attackers, and while strikers such as Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres have been atop the wishlist of most fans, the club have been linked with a wider array of wingers than traditional centre-forwards.

For example, one of the first sagas of the summer focussed on Nico Williams and his potential move to either Barcelona or Arsenal, only for the European Champion to supposedly opt to remain with Athletic Bilbao for another season.

After him, there were rumours about a potential move for Portuguese star Pedro Neto, who can play on either flank, but that potential deal was put to bed when it was announced that he had joined cross-city rivals Chelsea last week.

Some potential transfers that could still happen include Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sané, with the latter having already worked with Arteta at City and the former another star who could play on either side of a front three.

Amazingly, those are only some of the wide players who have been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months, and while many of the names mentioned are accustomed to playing on the right or left, it’s clear that whoever eventually signs for the club will get far more game time on the latter, as Bukayo Saka is undoubtedly the first name on the teamsheet at the moment.

Therefore, one of the current Arsenal players most at risk of losing his place to a new signing is Gabriel Martinelli, unless he can put in a performance later today that dissuades Arteta and Co from signing someone who could be his replacement.

Why Martinelli has to start

So, now we’ve established that Martinelli has to up his game in the next couple of weeks to avoid seeing himself potentially replaced with a new signing, let’s look at why he should start against Wolves this afternoon.

Now, there may be plenty of Arsenal fans out there who would rather Leandro Trossard start off the left today, and based on last season alone, it would be hard to disagree with that opinion, as the Belgian racked up 17 goals and two assists in 46 appearances.

However, while the Brazilian’s haul of eight goals and five assists in 44 appearances was somewhat underwhelming, he has the ability and potential to be a superstar winger for the club, and at just 23 years old, he has far more of a future in the lineup than the former Brighton & Hove Albion ace who’s set to turn 30 before the end of the year.

Furthermore, while the £60m-rated wideman wasn’t at his best last season, we have already seen just how good he can be when he is.

For example, in 2022/23, the Guarulhos-born “monster”, as journalist Mark Mann-Bryans described him, scored 15 goals and provided six assists in 46 appearances, equating to an average of a goal involvement every 2.19 games.

It’s not just his potential to produce goals and assists that warrant his place in the starting lineup, though; it’s also his style of play, for as talented as his fellow attackers are in this Arsenal squad, they don’t all share his desire to just run at defenders and take them on.

A full-throttle Martinelli offers a totally different kind of threat to someone like Trossard, who might slow things down a bit more to find a better pass or shooting opportunity, and while both are perfectly valid approaches, the former Ituano gem is more likely to get fans off their feet.

Ultimately, the number of wingers linked to Arsenal over the last couple of months should signal to Martinelli that his place in the squad is far from assured and that he simply cannot have a season like he did last year again.

However, for the best players, that threat can also work as motivation, and as we know how good he can be at his best, Arteta should start him this afternoon and let the 23-year-old show him why he doesn’t need to splash the cash on another left-winger.

Miguel Almiron has been constantly touted with a move away from Newcastle United in recent months, with Saudi Arabia and the USA two potential destinations for the attacker.

The Paraguayan enjoyed his best spell for the Magpies during the 2022/23 campaign, scoring 11 times in the Premier League, as he helped the Magpies secure their place in the Champions League.

However, last season he endured a huge drop in form, only managing to score three times in the league, finding himself as more of a backup to the likes of Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy.

It’s unclear whether any deal could be struck for a potential for the 30-year-old, potentially allowing the club to find a replacement before the transfer deadline.

One player has emerged as a potential target for Eddie Howe’s side, after he was told he’s free to leave his current side.

Newcastle plotting move for £325k-p/w ace

According to GIVEMESPORT, Newcastle are seriously considering making a move to sign Chelsea outcast Raheem Sterling before the deadline next Friday.

The 29-year-old has been told by boss Enzo Maresca that he won’t be included in his plans this season, even being stripped of his squad number, with his number seven shirt being given to new signing Pedro Neto.

Sterling, who earns a reported £325k-per-week as per Capology, cost the Blues £50m back in 2022, becoming the first signing of the Todd Boehly era.

The report states that Newcastle have previously been interested in signing Sterling and are now debating whether to make an offer for him in this window, should the attacker be interested in a move to Tyneside.

The one-time England international has made 81 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 19 times – an average of one goal every 4.2 games played – but it appears as though it may not be enough to save his career at Stamford Bridge.

Why Sterling could be like Gordon for Newcastle

Anthony Gordon has been a hugely impressive player for Newcastle after his £45m move to the Magpies back in January 2023.

He enjoyed his best-ever professional campaign last season, registering 11 goals and ten assists in his 35 Premier League appearances – finishing the campaign with the second most goal contributions behind striker Alexander Isak.

His subsequent form saw him receive a call-up for the England national side for Euro 2024 this summer, but only featured for one minute during the entire tournament.

Magpies boss Howe will be hoping he can replicate his previous form this campaign, potentially forming an excellent partnership with Sterling should he move to Tyneside.

The pair produced some very similar stats during 2023/24, with FBref ranking the duo as similar players based on their respective figures.

When delving into their stats, the comparison is understandable, with the current Chelsea man bettering Gordon in numerous key areas for a forward.

The “sensational” Sterling, as described by journalist Mark Douglas, may have registered fewer combined goal contributions, but did manage to produce a higher goal per shot on target rate than his compatriot.

The former Manchester City talent also managed more progressive carries and progressive passes per 90 – showcasing his ability to cause carnage in the final third when having the ball at his feet.

He also registered more successful take-ons per 90, demonstrating his ability at being able to beat the opposition before creating an opportunity as seen by his goal contributions tally last season.

Whilst it’s unclear how much the 29-year-old would cost the Magpies this summer, it’s evident that he has the quality to drastically improve the options at Howe’s disposal.

Undoubtedly, he would have to take a wage cut from his current astronomical wage, but the deal would be an excellent one for the club if they are able to get it over the line before the transfer deadline in less than a week.
