Falk said: “True: That Jeremie Frimpong is on the shortlist at Liverpool. He’s a very special player. He can play many positions and that makes him so interesting for Liverpool. There are no concrete talks yet at the moment, but he’s in their sights.”

Falk also revealed that Frimpong has a €40m (£33m) release clause included in his contract, which the Reds will seemingly need to pay to get a deal over the line. Liverpool are said to have already spoken with the winger’s agent, going as far as inviting him to Anfield earlier in the campaign, although they are not yet at the stage of negotiating the conditions of a deal.

Throughout his career so far, Frimpong has been utilised at both right-back and right wing, showcasing his attacking talent this season by chipping in with two goals and four assists in 14 Bundesliga outings.

Guardian columnist Dominik Diamond was particularly impressed with the Dutchman during the Netherlands’ friendly against Canada back in the summer.

As such, although Liverpool fans will not want Alexander-Arnold to leave under any circumstances, Frimpong could be a fantastic replacement.

Wolves looking at new defender

According to Sky Sports earlier this week, Lens defender, Kevin Danso, is Wolves’ top centre-back target in the January transfer window. The club is looking to support new manager, Vitor Pereira, as much as they can ahead of the second half of the campaign, looking to strengthen their defence as a priority area.

The 26-year-old did spend some time in England previously, with a loan spell at Southampton in the 2019/20 season, making just ten appearances for the club, providing one assist, contributing to three clean sheets and totalling 602 minutes on the field.

Danso has made 12 appearances so far this season for Lens, contributing to five clean sheets in his 1,080 minutes. The addition of the centre-half would be a welcome sight for Wolves fans, who are still hoping for an ample replacement for their 2023/24 club captain.

As you can see when comparing the two defenders’ underlying numbers this season, Kilman has shown slightly more ability to progress play with both his carrying and passing ability. He has also shown slightly more accuracy in his passing, completing more of his passes successfully, albeit with fewer attempted per 90.

But it is actually Danso who is averaging more defensive actions per 90, winning more tackles, making more blocks, more interceptions, and even winning more aerial duels, with a whopping 3.30 per 90.

Danso could be exactly what Pereira needs in order to guide Wolves away from the relegation zone, after earning seven points from their last three games.

These results have helped Wolves climb to 17th place, but sitting just one point above Ipswich, January recruitment could be the key to staying there.

It’s been about a year and a half since Ange Postecoglou was appointed manager of Tottenham Hotspur, and it would be fair to say that a lot has changed in that time.

There have been some undeniable positives, such as the more entertaining style of football, some big wins over Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United and the signing of players like Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke.

However, there have also been some significant problems, such as the team’s wildly unpredictable form and, on the recruitment side of things, the signing of Timo Werner on loan.

The German forward failed to establish himself in the team last season and has somehow endeavoured to be even worse this season, so recent reports linking the club with a player who could be the perfect replacement should excite fans.

Tottenham chase Premier League star

According to a recent report from the Independent’s Chief Football Writer, Miguel Delaney, Tottenham are one of several teams interested in Manchester United’s wantaway Marcus Rashford.

In fact, Delaney has revealed that the North Londoners have already made contact and held informal talks over the possibility of taking the Englishman on loan for the rest of the season.

However, in his report, he also claims that the United ace is likelier to go abroad and that his enormous £300k-per-week wage would pose an issue for the Lilywhites.

With that said, if they can convince Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co to cover a portion of his salary, then this could be a brilliant transfer for Tottenham, as even though he is someway off his best, Rashford would be an instant upgrade on Werner.

How Rashford compares to Werner

So, as things stand, it seems that Postecoglou’s go-to backup for Son Heung-min off the left is Werner, but as most fans will likely attest, he has been less than effective since moving to North London last January.

Therefore, were Rashford to join the club this month, he’d likely do so to compete with the German behind and for that to come in when the South Korean has to rest, and we reckon that is a competition he’d win hands down.

For example, despite being left out of the squad multiple times this season, the Manchester-born attacker has still scored seven goals and provided three assists in 24 appearances, totalling 1500 minutes.
