His second half-century came in 39 balls.At the other end, Fuller used brute power to clear the ropes four times in his 38-ball fifty before he was caught and bowled by Hawkins and Felix Organ was bowled.Andrew Neal took out the jitters by middling through midwicket as the hosts took the four points with five balls to spare.Derbyshire were given the first go on a batting paradise, and despite Kyle Abbott’s miserly opening spell, found runs flowed easily throughout.Jewell was the sparkle in the innings as he lusciously and repeatedly drove through the covers during a 99-run stand with former Hampshire batter Harry Came.It was just the start of a series of bulky partnerships that underpinned the visitor’s hefty 339 – stands of 46, 44, 94 and 39 all delivered in quick time.Wickets came in decade intervals, and when they did it often required either magic, or batter error.In the former category, Came was sensationally caught at midwicket by Nick Gubbins and Matt Montgomery had his off-stump glanced by an Abbott pearler,Jewell looked on course for a second century in the competition as he strode through 400 runs in the One-Day Cup.But having been fluently batting at a strike-rate around 120, he slowed up with the milestone in sight, and on 98 he missed a paddle sweep and was bowled by Felix Organ.Brooke Guest and Martin Andersson regained the sweet-striking momentum, the latter with an excellent eighth List A fifty but for the eighth time he couldn’t convert.Any chance of Derbyshire flittering at the end of their innings was kyboshed by Amrit Singh Basra – with 90 runs coming off the last 10 overs. The SACA graduate who signed a two-year contract this week showed off his range of shots in a breathless 15-ball 34 – but it wasn’t to be enough.

To say it has been a topsy-turvy season for West Ham United would be an understatement.

For the first couple of months, the Hammers couldn’t buy a win and looked almost certain to be relegated from the Premier League come May.

However, over the last month or so, Nuno Espírito Santo has steadied the ship and, as things stand, has led the club out of the drop zone.

He’ll be looking to continue the side’s unbeaten run against Liverpool this afternoon, but to ensure West Ham collects at least a point, if not all three, he’ll need to make at least one change and drop someone who was once compared to Mohammed Kudus.

The two historic clubs first met back in January 1901, in an FA Cup game that the Hammers sadly lost 1-0 courtesy of a Sam Raybould goal, which the hosts argued should have been ruled offside.

Unfortunately, that match served as a warning for how this fixture would go over the following 124 years, with the East Londoners winning just 29 games, drawing 38 and losing 86.

Somehow, things have been even worse for the Hammers in recent years. Across their last ten meetings, they have won just a single game, drawn another and then lost the other eight.

With a history like this, you’d be forgiven for thinking Nuno’s side have no chance this afternoon, but based on the last month or so of football, that may not be the case.

For example, Arne Slot’s side have lost their last three games by a staggering 10-1 scoreline and currently look as bad, if not worse, than the Irons did at the start of the campaign.

In stark contrast, West Ham have won two of their last three games and drawn one, so they should be going into this game confident of keeping their good form up and dumping more misery on the Merseysiders.

With that said, to ensure his side do come out the victors, or at the very least, with a point, Nuno needs to make at least one change to the team and drop someone compared to Kudus.

There may well be arguments for dropping more than one player from the side that drew at Bournemouth last week, but when it comes to the player most in need of being removed, it has to be Luis Guilherme.

The Brazilian was given the go-ahead in place of the injured Crysencio Summerville, but instead of the dynamism, directness and trickery the Dutchman brings to the team, he looked weak, out of place and simply not ready.

Now, that doesn’t mean the teenager shouldn’t get another chance to make his mark on the team.

After all, he remains a highly-rated prospect who respected analyst Ben Mattinson claims “still has the world at his feet” and someone who has “similarities to Kudus” in terms of the attacking traits he possesses.

However, after a 45-minute performance in which he registered an expected assists figure of 0.01, failed to take a single shot, took just 21 touches, failed in 66% of his dribbles, lost the ball nine times, completed ten passes and lost seven of eight duels, he should be dropped.

Moreover, there is someone available for selection again who will give far more than that: Lucas Paqueta.

Yes, after serving his one-match ban, the Brazilian can play again, and given his incredible ability and recent form, there is no reason he shouldn’t be right back in the team, either out wide or in the middle.

So far this season, the former Lyon star has scored four goals in 12 appearances and, according to FBref, ranks in the top 11% of attacking midfielders and wingers in the league for successful take-ons and in the top 13% for progressive passes, all per 90.

In other words, on top of the goals, he is helping to create chances both through his immense close control and brilliant passing range.

Ultimately, if Nuno wants to ensure West Ham collect all three points against Liverpool this afternoon, he should drop Guilherme for Paqueta.

وتابع: “ويعد ذلك سابقة غير محمودة في العمل المهني، ولأنني من أبناء نقابة المحامين، فضلت اللجوء إلى نقابتي بدلاً من نشر الشكوى على صفحات التواصل الاجتماعي، حفاظًا على الفصل بيني وبين الزميل، حتى لا يُقال إننا تركنا قول المحاماة وذهبنا إلى الشكاوى، وهذا ما تعلمناه”.

وأضاف: “التحدث في أمور قضية يحضر فيها المدافع عن المتهم الأول، ويأتي بالأقوال والأفعال والبيانات، وهو مس سمعة موكلي وقلل مكانته، فقد وردت ألفاظ على لسانه رغم حضوره في أولى جلسات المحكمة واطلاعه على أوراق الاتهام، لكنه ذكرها وتحدث في اتهامات لمجرد الظهور الإعلامي، وتحدث عن موكلي بأنه يتاجر بالبشر، وهو أمر لم تتضمنه النيابة العامة في قرار الإحالة، وخلط بين الأوراق والاعترافات بشكل غير مألوف”.

وعن غياب عمر هريدي عن الجلسة الماضية، قال: “هو غاب عن القضية، سواء لشعوره بالتعب أو انسحابه، هذه مسألة تخصه هو وموكله ولا تعنيني، في الجلسة الأولى حضرت مع رمضان صبحي، والجلسة التالية كانت مؤجلة من 25-10 إلى 22-11، غيابه أو تأخره لا يخصني، مشكلتي أنه تحدث عن القضية وأفشى أسرارًا محجوزة للحكم بتاريخ 30-12”.

وتابع: “عندما تم التواصل معي وحضر رمضان صبحي إلى النيابة، لم أنطق بكلمة واحدة عن المتهمين أو القضية، فوجئت بأن عمر هريدي يتحدث في القضية، ولولا كونه مدافعًا لكان لا يعرف شيئًا عن تفاصيلها، أنا أتكلم هنا عن مخالفة قانون المحاماة في المواد 69 و70، ولهذا لجأت إلى نقابتي”.

وبخصوص ما أزعجه في تصريحات هريدي: “ما أزعجني شخصيًا ليس الحديث، فأنا محامٍ لا أنزعج، لكن ما أزعجني أنه تحدث عن أقوال واتهامات لم ترد في أمر الإحالة، واتهم موكلي بالاتجار بالبشر، وهو لم يرد في قرار الإحالة، في مخالفة لنصوص المواد 69 و70 من قانون المحاماة، والنقابة العامة هي صاحبة القرار”.

وعن وضع رمضان صبحي الحالي، قال: “المحكمة قررت حبس المتهم على ذمة القضية، والحكم يوم 30-12-2025، ورمضان الآن في محبسه، أتواصل معه بصفتي محاميه ولي الحق في زيارته”.

واختتم: “أشكر الأهلي وبيراميدز على متابعتهما للقضية، لكن قضيتي محجوزة للحكم بتاريخ 30/12، ولا يمكننا فعل أي شيء قبل ذلك، القانون يسير بمسطرة واحدة على الجميع، ولا يمكننا التعقيب على قرار حبسه، فالمحكمة لها الصلاحية الكاملة في إخلاء سبيله أو حبسه”.

Thursday’s 3-0 defeat away to Brann in the Europa League was the latest dire result for the Gers, bursting Danny Rohl’s bubble in his opening game in charge, on a night when it was hoped they would turn a corner.

Rangers legend Ally McCoist was one of many not remotely amused by the performance of the players, not holding back in his criticism of the team, on Friday morning: “Last night is probably as depressed as I have been during this whole debacle, because I actually feel for the manager. I don’t know what he is going to do.

“He might improve them in terms of a little bit of organisation – set plays, you can do all that, bits and pieces, but I do not think there is anywhere near the level of improvement in that team that will even be required to get them up the league domestically, to tell you the gospel truth. There are just absolutely miles off it. They are getting outfought, outrun, outmuscled – I mean, it’s actually very sad to watch.”

It isn’t a happy time at Rangers, so it is important that those within the club cause further unrest, but they aren’t helping themselves at the moment.

Rangers kit announcement slammed

On Saturday, Four Lads Had A Dream reacted angrily to Rangers announcing their 2025/26 fourth kit, saying the timing was bad after such a poor run of form: “Great launch. Smashing kit. Timing & awareness of wider feeling, completely ignorant.”

It certainly isn’t the best timing from the Gers, who need to be aware of how frustrated the fans are at what has gone on so far this season, making this a bizarre time to market a chance for fans to invest more of their hard earned money into the club.

While supporters often like new kits, many fans feel that the players aren’t even worthy of wearing it this season, given the nature of the results and performances on show. Hopefully, things change for the better for Rangers from this weekend onwards, with Rohl’s side facing a must-win home clash against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.

Private investment in the BBL has come a step closer after it was one of the recommendations put forward for the future of the competition, alongside the potential of a later start for the men’s tournament to avoid an extended overlap with Test cricket.Boston Consulting Group (BCG) had been commissioned by Cricket Australia (CA) to assess the current model and future structure of the BBL. They presented their findings to CA earlier this week and the report will now undergo further study over the coming months.BCG said that there was “significant existing commercial value” in the BBL and “strong potential for further growth.” Todd Greenberg, the CA CEO, said the report was a “strong validation” of what the BBL had achieved heading into its 15th season, but it was vital to keep the tournament at the forefront of the sport.Related

“The success of the T20 format has been a huge boost for the game globally in attracting new audiences and increasing participation,” Greenberg said. “We need to ensure that the Big Bash remains among the world’s top sporting competitions.”We will now undertake an exploratory process of the recommendations in this report to ensure any action we take achieves this potential and is in the best interests of Australian Cricket and cricket fans.”Among major T20 leagues around the world, the BBL has remained one of the holdouts against private investment, but it is now seen as highly likely that it will follow that path, especially with the sums of money that have been produced in the recent sale of Hundred franchises in England with the teams valued at £975milion amid significant interest from India and the US.The BBL has seen an increase in salaries in recent seasons – a top-level overseas player in the BBL can now earn AU$420,000 – but continues to be challenged by the SA20 and ILT20 which run concurrently. An injection of private capital would allow salary caps to rise further.But away from overseas players, one of the big challenges for the BBL has been availability of Australian Test stars given the significant overlap with the Test summer which runs from late November to early January.This season the BBL starts three days before the third Ashes Test in Adelaide although there is a clearer window after the series ends, which could potentially allow players to appear during January. However, in the 2026-27 season, Australia will head to India for five Tests from mid-January. The next Future Tours Programme for beyond 2027 is currently being finalised.Given the pressures on the calendar and the marquee Boxing Day and New Year Tests in Melbourne and Sydney it is unlikely the BBL will ever have a completely clear window. The other issue is trying to complete the tournament within the summer school holiday window which goes to late January – there was previously a failed experiment of extending the BBL into February.Expansion of the BBL was also put forward by the report as an avenue worth further consideration. Earlier this year New Zealand Cricket chief executive Scott Weenink confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that there had been informal talks about putting a team into the BBL while Singapore has been mooted as an expansion location. Cricket ACT has also made clear they would like to host a team in Canberra.The WBBL has largely been able to carve out its own window in October and November although this season the schedule has been squeezed by the Women’s ODI World Cup which means it will begin in early November with the final on December 13, the day before the start of the BBL.The BBL went through a difficult phase when it expanded to a full home-and-away season in 2018-19 coupled with the challenges brought by two years navigating the impacts of Covid-19. In 2023-24 the tournament was reduced to a 10-game regular season.”It is very important to understand that no decisions have yet been made, and that any action taken will be for the benefit of the BBL, WBBL, fans and Australian Cricket more broadly,” CA chair Mike Baird said. “That would include providing strong benefits across the game including investment in participation initiatives and player development.”

However, there is a clear frontrunner for the club’s biggest waste of money award in recent times, but it isn’t going where you might think.

Václav Černý did not return, following the expiration of his loan from Wolfsburg, instead moving to Beşiktaş.

Meantime, Hamza Igamane was sold to Lille for £10.4m, while Cyriel Dessers departed for Greece, joining Panathinaikos for a reported fee of around £3.5m.

As the table documents, this departed trio scored 55% of all 115 goals Rangers bagged across all competitions last season, as well as 14 of the 20 they scored in Europe, with the Gers making a run to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Thus, Černý, Dessers and Igamane were always going to be a tough trio to follow, with Rangers splashing around £16m on a new quartet in an attempt to do just that, but their attacking options have unquestionably been weakened.

Djeidi Gassama, in fairness, has looked pretty bright, scoring his sixth of the season at the weekend, albeit he is currently not at Černý’s level, while Oliver Antman, despite a scintillating debut, has done little since.

In terms of pure centre-forwards, Bojan Miovski, who joined from Girona for £2.6m, is yet to recapture the form he showed at Aberdeen, while the signing of Youssef Chermiti remains baffling.

After the Portuguese striker failed to score a single goal during two seasons at Everton, Kevin Thelwell, who had initially brought him to Merseyside, decided to sign him again, agreeing to pay the Toffees £8m, potentially rising to £10m with add-ons, making him the club’s second-most expensive signing in history, behind only Tore André Flo in 2000.

Chermiti did open his Rangers account against Kilmarnock during Röhl’s first Premiership match in charge, but has squandered numerous gilt-edged opportunities, with many concluding that he simply is not worth the huge investment.

Röhl must see something in the 21-year-old, however, considering he has started four of the last five matches, but the jury is not so much still out on Chermiti, they’re more on a proverbial break.

At least the striker is starting regularly and contributing that way – the same cannot be said of another expensive signing, saving him from the unwanted worst recent signing accolade, which surely only has one clear winner.

Rangers' worst value for money signing

A player who officially joined Rangers this summer is Óscar Cortés, albeit he had been on loan at the club since 1 February, making him the forgotten man.

When he initially arrived in Glasgow, he did so to plenty of excitement, having been one of the best players at the under-20 World Cup in the summer of 2023, scoring four goals and registering two assists as Colombia reached the quarter-finals, picking up the Bronze Boot, with scout António Mango thereby asserting that he was an “insane talent” who “would be ideal for Liverpool”.

He joined Rangers on loan from Ligue 1 side Lens with an obligation to buy, while the Rangers Journal calling him a “very promising young winger”, who will “provide pace, power and… goal contributions” to the Gers’ forward line.

However, this is certainly not how events have transpired.

To date, Cortés has made just 21 appearances for the Light Blues, totalling 764 minutes, not even named among the substitutes on 58 occasions, usually due to injury.

The Colombian international scored just a solitary goal for the goal, this a sweet right-footed strike during a 5-0 demolition of Hearts just a few weeks after his arrival.

Due to the obligation to buy clause, despite his lack of activity, Rangers were forced to buy Cortés for £4.5m in the summer, making him one of their most expensive signings of all-time.

He actually started August’s League Cup tie against Alloa Athletic at left-back, his only start of the campaign, before being loaned out to Segunda División side Sporting Gijón.

Well, he is yet to make much impact in Spain’s second-tier, seeing just 92 league minutes for los Rojiblancos to date, earning his first start against Mirandés last Friday night, albeit he was hooked at half time, as his team were defeated 2-1.

Seemingly unlikely to revive his career at El Molinón, Cortés has to be considered one of Rangers’ worst value for money signings ever.

Having paid £4.5m to secure his signature, Football Transfers estimate that his value has already dropped to £3m and is on a downward trajectory.

Thus, if Rangers are going to get back to dominating Scottish football, they can ill-afford many more transfer missteps such as this.

Green put down two chances off Kevin Wickham in consecutive overs after the powerplay and once again in the 11th one before Wickham was eventually taken by substitute fielder Kofi James at mid-off for 26.
