Liverpool are being regularly linked with a move for Lille centre-back Sven Botman now that the January transfer window has opened and the former Ajax man could be the perfect addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

What’s the word?

According to Duncan Castles on the Transfer Window Podcast (via Express), Liverpool are in talks with the 20-year-old’s agent and could make a transfer bid this month.

Klopp is currently without a senior centre-back in his first-team squad, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all currently sidelined due to injury.

Better than Liverpool’s current options?

Fabinho has done a superb job filling in there, whilst youngsters Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams, who Klopp labelled as “exceptional” back in November, have also performed admirably. However, the fact that Manchester United are now level on points with the Reds at the top of the Premier League emphasises that the Merseyside club must improve their defence in January, as sticking with their current inexperienced backline for the rest of the season seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

Fortunately, they look to have identified a quality replacement in Botman, who has enjoyed a superb start to the season with Lille, having averaged a superb 7.13 rating across his 17 appearances in the French top-flight.

Castles was certainly full of praise for the young defender during the podcast, saying:

“He’s tall and quick and I think this is one of the things that factors into Liverpool’s assessment, he’s incredibly strong one-on-one.

“In one statistical analysis, he’s the best one-on-one duels in the big five leagues across Europe this season.”The journalist also suggested that the Dutchman would be a huge improvement on Williams and Phillips at the heart of Liverpool’s defence, saying:”From what I’ve seen of those two centre-backs [Williams and Phillips], I would think he’s significantly better.”Whilst this might seem harsh, considering Phillips has averaged a 7.19 rating for his performances in the Premier League, whilst Williams’ one league start against Tottenham Hotspur earned him a 6.91 rating, Botman is certainly highly rated and would perhaps be a better long-term option than either of the young Liverpool centre-backs.Transfermarkt currently values the 20-year-old at £9 million, perhaps as he only joined Les Dogues in the summer for €9 million (£8 million), which suggests that Michael Edwards wouldn’t have to pay over the odds to bring him to Anfield this month and he must therefore do everything he can to sign him.And, in other news… Liverpool can sign their next Salah in “perfect” 51-assist ace

ومن المقرر أن يُحدث الألماني تغييرًا جذريًا في أسلوب اللعب في مانشستر يونايتد ونظام التدريب الخاص به بمجرد الكشف عنه كمدير فني مؤقت للنادي.

وبحسب صحيفة “ميرور” البريطانية، سيطلب رانجنيك من لاعبيه الضغط العالي وزيادة شدتهم على الكرة في تناقض صارخ مع التكتيكات التي يستخدمها أولي جونار سولشاير.

كان المدرب البالغ من العمر 63 عامًا أحد رواد فن استعادة الكرة بأسرع ما يمكن بعد فقدان الاستحواذ.

تحت قيادة سولشاير، كثيرًا ما كان مانشستر يونايتد يسقط بعمق في نصف ملعبه ونادرًا ما ضغط على دفاعات الخصم.

ذكرت صحيفة “ديلي تلجراف” البريطانية أن رانجنيك يخطط لتثبيت ساعة للعد التنازلي في مركز التدريب في مانشستر يونايتد والتي ستعمل على توقيت لاعبيه وتجبرهم على تحسين ضغطهم.

سيطلب رانجنيك استعادة الكرة بعد ثماني ثوان فقط من فقدانها بهدف خلق فرصة لتسجيل الأهداف بعد 10 ثوانٍ.

ويأمل أن يتولى مسؤولية التدريب الأسبوع المقبل في الوقت المناسب للمباراة مع آرسنال، لكنه لن يكون حاضراً في ستامفورد بريدج لمواجهة تشيلسي يوم الأحد حيث ينتظر التأشيرة.

لم يمنع ذلك رانجنيك من تحليل أداء اللاعبين الذين سيعمل معهم قريبًا، بحسب ما أفاد التقرير.

يذكر أن رونالدو سجل ستة أهداف في خمس مباريات في دوري أبطال أوروبا، ونجح البالغ من العمر 36 عامًا، في هز الشباك 10 مرات حتى الآن هذا الموسم مع مانشستر يونايتد.

O Grêmio nem teve tempo de remoer a derrota para o São José pelo Campeonato Gaúcho, na noite desta sexta-feira. According to BBC Sport, West Bromwich Albion manager Sam Allardyce could be without five players for his side’s game against West Ham United later today.

Allardyce picked up his first win since becoming manager of the Midlands outfit last Saturday as his side beat local rivals Wolves 3-2 (Reuters).

However, he could well be without five players for this match against the Hammers as Grady Diangana, Conor Townsend, Karlan Grant and Matt Phillips are all out, while Sam Johnstone may also be unavailable.

Difficult task

These absences do not make Allardyce’s life any easier. While Diangana and Grant may not have been at their best this term, both cost over £10m during the summer transfer window (Transfermarkt) and, under a new manager, they may be able to retrieve their best form. Townsend is a popular player amongst the club’s supporters (West Brom News), and Phillips offers pace down the wings.

Johnstone, meanwhile, has been linked with a move to Tottenham (The Sun), which only goes to show how impressive he has been this campaign.

All in all, Allardyce will be disappointed that the number of options available to him has been massively reduced, especially against a side in the top ten of the Premier League. He will be hoping that the players who are available have enough to get a result at the London Stadium, but it won’t be easy with some of his most important players ruled out.

In other news, West Brom are in talks to sign this prolific striker.

According to Fotomac, Fenerbahce have rejected an offer of €8m from Crystal Palace for their Turkish midfielder Ozan Tufan.

What’s the word?

Palace submitted a bid believed to be worth an initial €8m – which they feel is reasonable considering the current economic climate – on Thursday after some deliberation over a bid.

However, the Turkish club value the 25-year-old at €12m (£10m), having signed him from his boyhood club Bursaspor in 2015.

But the report adds Palace may be prepared to increase their offer substantially, although Fenerbache are also expected to hike their price for the 55-cap Turkey international, who joined the club at the age of 19.

Significant upgrade in the midfield

Hodgson has got the Eagles well above the Premier League relegation battle and is now looking for January additions to keep them there.

Steve Parish has already signed Jean-Philippe Mateta on an initial 18-month loan deal with an option to buy from Bundesliga club Mainz to that effect and Tufan could follow suit if the club chairman can be persuaded to dip into his pockets.

The Eagles manager was interested in Tufan almost three years ago, but he turned his attentions elsewhere but if Palace want to prise him away from the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium, they will have to match Fenerbahce’s asking price.

While Luka Milivojevic has established himself as a regular starter in the Premier League under Hodgson, the Palace boss has struggled to settle on his preferred midfield pairing.

Despite impressing at times for Hodgson’s side this season so far, Jairo Riedewald has been unable to nail down a starting berth in the squad, whilst James McArthur and James McCarthy are the other two men battling to bag the same spot, although there are questions over both.

It’s fair to say that Tufan – who has been heavily linked with a move to Selhurst Park in the past – would be a significant upgrade in the midfield. Now closing in on seven years at Fenerbahce, he has made 152 appearances for the club, scoring 19 goals and setting up a further 19 assists for his teammates.

Only McArthur (3.1) and McCarthy (1.8) currently average more tackles per game compared to Tufan’s exploits this season, with the Turk bettering both Milivojevic and Riedewald, per WhoScored. He currently averages more interceptions per game too, which suggests that he reads the game well and can break up attacks.

He also tops the charts in comparison to the Palace midfielders for the most shots (1.5), key passes (1.1) and dribbles (0.9) per game, which shows that his all-round game is solid.

Tufan, therefore, could be a valuable asset for the Eagles but it remains to be seen how much Parish will be willing to spend to finally land Palace’s long-term target.

A partida contra o Bragantino neste sábado na Arena Pernambuco valerá a princípio, em caso de vitória, os mesmos três pontos que qualquer outra do campeonato. Porém segundo o treinador, as edições anteriores da competição nacional mostram que os clubes que terminam o primeiro turno no G4 têm enormes chances de obter o objetivo de ascender à primeira divisão no fim do ano.

– Queremos terminar a primeira metade do campeonato senão dentro no G4, bem próximo dele. As estatísticas mostram que das equipes que iniciam o segundo turno nas quatro primeiras colocações, duas ou três geralmente mantém o bom desempenho no restante do campeonato e sobem para a Série A no fim da competição. Vencer o Bragantino e encerrar o turno no topo terá influência no aspecto matemático, logicamente, mas também no emocional, que importa muito para os atletas – disse o comandante alvirrubro.

Sobre o confronto do Timbu com o time do interior de São Paulo, que venceu três dos quatro últimos jogos na Série B, Lisca destaca a importância de voltar a conquistar um resultado positivo atuando em casa, após o empate contra o Macaé na décima sexta rodada.

وأضاف: “منتخبنا كان سيئا جدًا، أخطاء كارثية في التشكيل وأسلوب اللعبة، الكرة آراء وأرقام والأرقام لا تكذب”.

وأردف: “كيروش مدرب كبير ولكنه ليس فوق التقييم، جوارديولا أو مورينيو وأنشيلوتي يتم تقييمهم”.

واستمر: “إذا كنت مسؤولًا في اتحاد الكرة سأجلس مع كيروش، وأتناقش معه لماذا تشرك مروان حمدي؟، القصة واضحة للأعمى، لاعبي منتخب مصر لهم مواصفات معينة، أن يكون سريع لديه مرونة ورشاقة وقوة بدنية وبعد ذلك الفنيات، ولكن كيروش مصمم على إشراكه طول أوقات المباراة، وهو يعاند الشعب المصري”.

وأكمل: “إشراك مروان على حساب محمد شريف وظلم هو يلعب في مركز الجناح، ربنا عاقبك لأنك لم تحقق العدل، إذا كنا نواجه برشلونة (في عزها) مع جوارديولا لن تكن ستلعب أمامنا مثل تونس اليوم”.

وأتم: “تحدثت مع طارق حامد منذ قليل وسألته هل يوجد شىء بينك وبين كيروش؟، قال لي أقسم بالله لم أفعل أي شىء، أنا رجل ملتزم ولا يوجد لدي مشكلة، هناك لغز في موضوع طارق حامد، هناك فارق كبير بين طارق وبين أي لاعب رقم 6 في مصر، ولا اقلل من حمدي فتحي هو لاعب قوي جدًا وأمامه وقت طويل لكي يصل لمستوى طارق”.
