In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Rob Lee has claimed his former side West Ham will need to back David Moyes with a £100million transfer kitty if they qualify for Europe.

Moyes has guided West Ham to an unlikely push for the Champions League with just a handful of games remaining, and the performances of players such as Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek have been a big part of that.

The West Ham board will be hoping to keep hold of their best players and then adding to their squad, instead of replacing players this summer as they potentially prepare for a European campaign.

Speaking on how much Moyes will need to spend to ensure West Ham don’t fall behind and why teams find it difficult to compete in both Europe and the league, Lee exclusively told FFC:

“The problem when you qualify for Europe is that you have a lot more games and you see teams fall off if they haven’t got the squad to cope with it, and the problem with getting the squad to cope with the games is that owners have to spend more money.

“It’s up to the owners and if they are prepared to put a lot of money into the squad and improve it because they would need to spend £100 million to improve the entire squad.”

West Ham are currently in a battle with Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur for the fourth and final spot in the Champions League next season.

Out of the Hammers’ remaining games they have to play four teams in the bottom half of the league and they’ve only lost two games to teams below 10th, with both defeats coming against Newcastle United.

What’s the latest?

The 27-year-old left-back has played only two matches since picking up a knee injury back in December and now the ever-reliable ExWHUemployee has delivered a worrying update on his progress.

Speaking on a recent episode of ‘The West Ham Way’ podcast, he said:

“Masuaku, as I said last week, he played a couple of games for us after a knee operation and I think he may have been rushed back too soon because his knee has fluid around it and it has had to be drained off.

“He hasn’t trained as far as I know this week, so he may not play again this season. I don’t know for certain, I’m guessing a bit on that one. But he may be out for the rest of the season.”

Huge blow

The Hammers have players piling up on the treatment table and these fresh developments aren’t getting any better for David Moyes and their hopes of qualifying for Europe.

Declan Rice, Mark Noble, Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio have all faced time on the sideline in recent months and West Ham’s form has slipped.

It’s three defeats in their last four matches, which has seen them move out of top-four contention and into fifth place heading into the final three games of the season, all of which are winnable ties against teams with very little to play for.

Brighton and Southampton are safe, whilst West Brom were relegated back to the Championship on Sunday evening.

Not having Masuaku available comes as yet another huge blow, especially as it was initially hoped he would return before the season’s conclusion.

Despite only playing 12 times in the Premier League this season, the DR Congo international was a regular starter for Moyes, often playing at left wing-back, which allowed Cresswell to act as a third centre-back and when the pair have been out, the 58-year-old has had some tricky selection nightmares to contend with.

Masuaku ranks amongst the Irons’ top six performers for the season, with an average WhoScored rating of 6.89, so to not see him again this season would be a crushing setback.

Indagado se usaria, ao menos, time reserva na Primeira Liga, Nepomuceno afastou a possibilidade, já que a competição é de tiro curto.

– Sou muito a favor ter um sub-23, mas não vejo sentido só para ter seis datas no calendário. Tem que ter o ano todo – afirmou.

Indagado sobre o futuro de Robinho, o presidente do Atlético-MG garantiu:

– Claro que fica.

Logo após a contratação de Macedo, Levir Culpi foi oficializado como novo treinador do Fluminense.

O contrato de Jorge Macedo com o Fluminense era válido até o fim de 2017.

Oito jogadores chegaram às Laranjeiras durante o trabalho de Jorge Macedo no Fluminense: Rojas, Claudio Aquino, Danilinho, Dudu, Maranhão Marquinho, Wellington e William Matheus. Além destes atletas, Jorge Macedo também teve participação nas contratações de Jefferson Orejuela e Junior Sornoza, ambos do Independiente Del Valle (EQU), que integrarão o elenco a partir de janeiro.

A decisão foi tomada por Pedro Abad em conjunto com Peter Siemsen, atual presidente do Fluminense. A posse do cargo por Abad ainda não está definida, mas acontecerá na segunda quinzena de dezembro. O departamento de futebol passará por outras mudanças para 2017, começando pelo técnico.

Writing on Twitter, reliable club insider ExWHUemployee has shared news regarding West Ham left-back Arthur Masuaku, with the Congolese ace now looking likely to miss the rest of the season.

Indeed, as per the source, the 27-year-old is unlikely to feature again before the end of 2020/21 despite only recently coming back from knee surgery. Responding to a query from a supporter, Ex wrote: “He is likely to be out for the rest of the season now. His knee hasn’t recovered well from the operation he had and fluid had to be drained from it.”

Masuaku missed a large portion of the season – 20 games to be exact (Transfermarkt) – in order to resolve an issue with his knee which had been bothering him for years. However, due to fluid build-up around the area, his return at Wolves last month has been quickly followed by another spell on the sidelines.

Ex has told followers not to expect the defender to play again this season and many West Ham fans are seething at this news on social media.

Tottenham midfielder Elliot Thorpe will leave the club in the summer, according to Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Mason knows him well

Thorpe, who can play as a defensive, central or attacking midfielder, is yet to make a senior appearance for Spurs.

He’s been a regular for the club’s Under-23 side this season, though, making 18 appearances, scoring twice.

Interim manager Ryan Mason knows the 20-year-old well, coaching the youth team before his promotion following Jose Mourinho’s sacking.

The Latest: Hoffenheim and Leicester keen

Football Insider, who have been informed by a recruitment source, report that Bundesliga side Hoffenheim have joined Leicester City in the race to sign Thorpe over the coming months.

They claim that the midfielder will leave north London when his contract expires next month with Tottenham set to fail in their bid to agree on a contract extension.

Thorpe was training with the first team when Mourinho was in charge, but it seems as if his days at the club are now numbered.

The Verdict: Not ideal for Spurs

It seems as if the club wanted to keep Thorpe at the club, going off the reported contract extension offer, so the latest news could come as a blow to Spurs officials.

The fact he was called up to first-team training by Mourinho this season may show he has the ability to make it at the top level, and he doesn’t have a shortage of suitors.

Both Hoffenheim and Leicester could be smart destinations for the youngster. Several youngsters have left Premier League sides to gain valuable experience in the Bundesliga, such as Jadon Sancho.

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers has given youth a chance at the King Power, so it’ll be interesting to see where Thorpe decides to go.

A temporada de jogos comemorativos de fim de ano começa hoje às 8h com a décima edição do Jogo das Estrelas do COT (Centro de Oportunidade ao Trabalho), projeto realizado em São Gonçalo pelo ex-jogador Clayton Nunes. Ele é conhecido por ser o primeiro parceiro de ataque de Ronaldo Fenômeno, no São Cristóvão.

O evento primeira vez ocorrerá no Estádio Catarinão, do Gonçalense (principal time do município e que disputa a Segundona do Carioca) e terá homenagens aos jogadores da Chapecoense que morreram no acidente com o seu voo na Colômbia e, principalmente, ao atacante Kempes, um dos que haviam confirmado presença no evento e que morreu na tragédia.

– Joguei com o Kempes no Estrela do Espírito Santo. Depois que encerrei a carreira e comecei com a escolinha e o Jogo das Estrelas, ele sempre me apoiou e participou de uma das edições. Neste ano, seria um dos astros ao lado do Diego Souza. Mas ocorreu o acidente. Nos lembraremos de Kempes e dos seus companheiros de Chape entrando com uma faixa. E a camisa do Time dos Astros terá uma estrela em homenagem aos catarinenses – disse Clayton, lembrado que a mãe de Kempes foi convidada e deve comparecer.
