India seek extra tour game in Australia

The BCCI has made a late request to Cricket Australia, asking for an additional warm-up game during India’s tour in December

The debacle in England has prompted the BCCI to re-think India’s preparation in Australia•ESPNcricinfo Ltd

The BCCI has asked Cricket Australia for an additional warm-up game during India’s tour in December. India are currently scheduled to play only one four-day tour game, against the CA Chairman’s XI in Canberra, from December 18.”We are considering the request and it is work in progress,” a CA spokesperson said. “You’ve got to understand that scheduling is a three-dimensional exercise and it is always difficult to make any changes once things are finalised. But we have always had cordial relations with the BCCI and we should be able to find a way.”Scheduling is, however, likely to be an issue. India have a full series – three Tests and five ODIs – against the visiting West Indies pencilled in between October 29, when they end a home series against England, and that match in Canberra. The main problem for CA, which had announced its schedule for the 2011-12 home season three days ago, is likely to be the Big Bash League. Australia’s domestic Twenty20 competition starts on December 16 and, with players from all six Australian states participating in the eight-team competition, India may have to play a second-string side for the extra warm-up.India’s request comes on the back of a humiliating defeat in the ongoing Test series in England. They trail 0-3 in the series and are in danger of suffering their first 0-4 loss since then tour of Australia in 1991-92, There has been sharp criticism of the team’s preparation for the series, in which the No. 1 Test ranking was at stake, from within the BCCI and the media. MS Dhoni, the India captain, and Duncan Fletcher, the coach, have indirectly admitted that one reason India were struggling in English conditions was because they did not have enough to acclimatise. The late request to CA for an additional warm-up is another example of the lack of planning in the BCCI. Before the 2010-11 tour of South Africa, Gary Kirsten, who was coach at the time, had to press his case to ensure some of the Test players arrived a few weeks early to prepare for the series. Kirsten had sent his request about eight months ahead of the tour but the BCCI granted him permission only at the very last minute.

Marsh took playing Test cricket for granted

As Shaun Marsh basked in the glow of a century for Australia on Test debut, he admitted that as a precocious teenager he had taken for granted the amount of application required of a Test cricketer

Shaun Marsh: “What you dream of doing is playing Test cricket, and just having that chance was so surreal.”•AFP

As Shaun Marsh basked in the glow of a chanceless and near-nerveless century for Australia on Test debut, he admitted that as a precocious teenager he had taken for granted the amount of application required of a Test cricketer. In 2003, when he was 19, Marsh cracked 119 for Western Australia against Steve Waugh’s New South Wales in Newcastle, and assumed that all the garlands and overseas trips of an international career would soon follow without any great obvious effort. Instead it took another eight years and plenty of hard lessons before Marsh could finally debut, and his appreciation was clear in glistening eyes.”Definitely, there’s no doubt about that [I thought it would come easily],” Marsh said. “I probably took it for granted, playing at a young age for WA. I just thought it was going to happen, playing a lot of junior cricket growing up. I didn’t know, didn’t realise how hard it was to play first-class cricket and I’m glad I did work hard enough and turned it around.”It’s very surreal at the moment. A very proud day, I still can’t believe it really, just to be even playing Test cricket, to be given an opportunity and to go there and get a hundred in my first innings was, you dream of that sort of stuff and I’m so happy.”I was [intent on a long stay], I just wanted to stay out there for as long as I could. They bowled pretty well yesterday and especially early I couldn’t get away. I knew if I could just keep sticking to my guns I could hopefully get on top later in the day. It was just an amazing feeling, to be out there playing a Test match for your country is just something I’ve dreamt of my whole life and I can’t believe it really.”Batting at No. 3 in place of the absent Ricky Ponting, Marsh walked out to the crease with a simple objective: bat as long as he could. In the end he was there for seven hours, perhaps the most significant 420 minutes of his cricket life. He spent most of it with his fellow West Australian Michael Hussey, who crafted his own innings of substance with a meticulous 142.”It was just amazing, I said yesterday when I went out there, I wanted to stay out there for as long as I could,” Marsh said. “What you dream of doing is playing Test cricket, and just having that chance was so surreal. I had a lot of fun out there.”It was tough out there early, they bowled very well, and we had to respect that. I knew if I could just hang in there I could get over the line. I really enjoyed batting with Huss as well, especially today. To be out there with him when we both scored our hundreds was a very special day. He’s a good man and he’s certainly helped me out a fair bit since I’ve been playing international cricket.”Every ball of Marsh’s innings was worried over by his father Geoff in the stands, and Shaun spoke of how emotional their reunion had been when the younger man was finally out. Tom Moody, the coach who gave Marsh the hard word to be serious about his cricket, was also valued company.”It was pretty emotional to be honest with you,” Marsh said. “[Dad] was very happy I could see and it was very emotional for him and I was trying to hold it back in, out there with Huss … just crazy really. I spoke with Tom before this Test and what Tom’s done for me the last three years, to have him and my dad here was pretty special.”Marsh’s efforts make him close to a certainty for the third Test in Colombo, despite Ponting’s return, but the man himself was not daring to look beyond the next two days, when rain may threaten Australia’s push for a series victory.”It’s out of my control,” Marsh said. “All I’m worried about is playing this Test, that’s all I can control and I’m loving every bit of it. We’ve got two days left and all I’m focusing on is trying to win this Test.”I’m not too sure what Pup [Michael Clarke] is going to do, I think he’s got a few ideas, whether we bat on for a little longer and try to push for that 270-280 lead or he declares straight away we’ll just have to wait and see.”[The weather] is not great at the moment, but we just have to wait and see, we can’t worry about the weather. We’ve just got to worry about what we can do, and if we go out there and play some good cricket and get ourselves in a winning position that’s all we can worry about.”

– Administrativamente, sim, estamos rachados.

Eu quero ajudar. Não quero mais do que isso. Nós divergimos. Acho a gestão pífia.

Sou favorável a demitir esses – explica, e completa:

Vamos ver.

Simmons pleased with 'special knock'

Lendl Simmons finally made his first international hundred and, with the help of Marlon Samuels, powered West Indies to a total that proved too much for Bangladesh

Lendl Simmons on his maiden ton: “One of the most memorable moments in my life”•Associated Press

After 53 international innings across formats, most of them as an opener, Lendl Simmons hit his first century in the opening ODI against Bangladesh. Simmons was relieved to break his century jinx and termed the match-winning effort as “one of the most memorable moments” of his life.”It was a special knock today,” Simmons said. “I had got starts against Pakistan and India [in the recent home season], but I couldn’t convert them into hundreds. I would like to dedicate today’s effort to my mum and daughter”.Simmons’ fluent 122 guided West Indies to 298, a score that they defended comfortably under lights. He was pleased with the conditions he confronted, while the new playing conditions of separate new balls from either end must have assisted his stroke play.”The pitch was nice, the ball came on to the bat,” Simmons said. “I was trying to get the pace of the wicket as fast as possible. We didn’t get the start we wanted in the first five overs but by the end of the first Powerplay we got to our target. Then we just went on with the momentum.”Simmons began with assurance in the company of Adrian Barath, his Trinidad & Tobago opening partner. Barath retired hurt after 15 overs, but Simmons and Marlon Samuels controlled the middle overs easily to set up West Indies’ charge for a big score.”I am now stepping into being a senior player in the team,” Simmons said. “Adrian Barath is a junior guy from T&T and we played a lot of cricket back home and have a good understanding. I hope we can blossom well as an opening pair.”Marlon has some good form and he is showing his abilities as a good batsman. He dominated the Twenty20 and today he showed his class. He has been an inspiration. All the guys see that he has form. Our partnership was a good one and it got us to a good score.”Bangladesh struggled to make an impact with the ball, before their batsmen lost steam in a poorly paced chase. Their captain Mushfiqur Rahim said his bowlers had been up against conditions that did not assist spin.”Our main strength is our slow bowlers, especially in our home conditions, but unfortunately the pitch was not like the one during the Twenty20 match,” Mushfiqur said. “The spinners didn’t get any turn from this pitch, and hence got frustrated. It was a batting paradise. Our spinners always get extra advantage here, but it was not the case today.”This wicket initially remains dry and, in the latter part of the innings, dew becomes a factor. That’s why we took the decision of fielding first but unfortunately the ball came on very well [in the first half itself].”Bangladesh’s chase was disrupted early, by opener Imrul Kayes not being allowed to bat for the first 15 minutes. He had been off the field during the closing stages of the West Indies innings. Naeem Islam was promoted in Kayes’ place and he did not give the innings momentum. He scored 52 off 82 balls before he was the second man out at 122 in the 28th over.”It was a very good batting wicket but we could not apply ourselves properly,” Mushfiqur said. “If someone like Imrul or Naeem from the top order could carry their innings to the end, it might have even been possible for us to chase down the total. You know Naeem was in a good form after the way he played in the preparation matches.”Bangladesh have to win the second ODI on October 15 to stay alive in the three-match series.

All-round Afridi stars in easy win for Karachi Dolphins

A round-up of the matches from the fifth day of the Faysal Bank T20, 2011

ESPNcricinfo staff29-Sep-2011Karachi Dolphins opened their account in the tournament with a comprehensive win over Islamabad Leopards at the National Stadium in Karachi. Shahid Afridi took 3 for 20 while the others bowled economical spells to restrict Islamabad to 131 for 9. The top and middle-order batsmen got starts but didn’t push on – each of the top six reached double-figures – and their efforts in the end were inadequate. Afridi, who leads Karachi, starred with the bat as well, blasting 58 off 32 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. Rameez Raja made an unbeaten 38 and victory was sealed with 39 balls to spare.Afghan Cheetas slipped to their second defeat, falling short by 13 runs against Faisalabad Wolves at the National Stadium in Karachi. Faisalabad didn’t have a stand-out performer; Asif Hussain and wicketkeeper Mohammad Salam chipped in with 30s, while Khurram Shehzad contributed 21 in the middle order to take their team to a competitive 145. The Cheetas had it covered in the chase but faltered badly. They were cruising at 102 for 2 in the 12th over, Gulbodin Naib smashing 68 off 42 balls with 10 fours and two sixes. He had the company of Karim Sadiq, who was batting steadily, but both fell off consecutive deliveries and the innings fell apart. No batsman that followed reached double-figures, the runs dried up as the Faisalabad bowlers applied the pressure and the Cheetas only finished with 132 for 9. Faisalabad have two wins from two games.Rawalpindi Rams won their second match in two days in the Faysal Bank T20, beating Multan Tigers by five wickets in Karachi. The win was set up by a four-wicket haul, including a hat-trick, by fast bowler Mohammad Rameez and a half-century by opening batsman Awais Zia.Choosing to bat, Multan put on 151 for 9. Gulraiz Sadaf, Kamran Hussain and Ansar Javed each made 30s, but there was not much contribution from the others. Left-arm spinners Samiullah and Yasim Murtaza did most of the damage upfront, claiming two wickets apiece, before Rameez came back to run through the lower order. Zia then put on an 84-run stand with Tahir Mughal for the third-wicket to put Rawalpindi firmly on track. The pair were dismissed in quick succession by pacer Mohammad Zahid, but with just about a run a ball required off the last six overs, Rawalpindi managed to ease home in the 19th over, handing Multan their second loss in consecutive matches.
