O surgimento do VAR reduziu o chororô de dirigentes, jogadores e torcedores contra marcações da arbitragem. Também diminuiu efetivamente os erros cometidos pelos homens do apito durante os jogos, dando mais justiça aos resultados. Isso, mais do que uma opinião quase unânime – até os adversários sensatos da tecnologia reconhecem -, é algo que pode ser facilmente comprovado pelas estatísticas do Brasileirão e da Libertadores, só para citar os dois campeonatos mais importantes.

Na medida em que as competições vão chegando a seu momento decisivo, que cada ponto ganho ou perdido faz a diferença, seja na briga pelo título, seja na luta para não cair, os ânimos vão se exaltando e a checagem de vídeo entra, cada vez mais, na alça de mira da cartolagem. Uma reação nada surpreendente, aliás, trata-se do mesmo rol de pressões e reclamações de sempre, na verdade muito mais um jogo de cena, para a plateia, do que algo realmente baseado em argumentos plausíveis.

Nas últimas rodadas tivemos o Vasco querendo anular o jogo contra o Grêmio alegando erro de direito do árbitro ao anular o segundo gol que lhe daria o empate contra os gaúchos em Porto Alegre, e vimos o presidente do Palmeiras, Mauricio Galliotte e o técnico Mano Menezes protestando contra interpretações e o protocolo do VAR que segundo eles têm beneficiado o Flamengo. Neste fim de semana foi a vez do Internacional disparar sua artilharia contra o uso do vídeo e a comissão de arbitragem da CBF.

– O Inter foi um dos primeiros clubes a defender o VAR e fomos minoria no passado. O VAR é um instrumento que veio para facilitar, mas ele é administrado e operado por pessoas, e, do jeito que as coisas estão acontecendo, estamos pensando o contrário, em retirar o nosso apoio. Acho que o VAR está correndo risco no Campeonato Brasileiro – disse Roberto Melo, vice-presidente do futebol do Colorado, após o empate contra o Cruzeiro.

Foi o ataque mais duro e também o mais consistente de todos. Melo, ao comparar a marcação do pênalti a favor da Raposa, com este fim de semana o lance em que Guerrero foi derrubado dentro da área no jogo com o Flamengo, há dias, bateu num ponto essencial da questão: os critérios, estabelecidos pelos humanos, para que o sistema seja acionado e interpretado corretamente. Não há dúvida de que isso precisa ser ajustado. Mas, também é certo, problemas protocolares têm pipocado por todo o mundo, não são uma exclusividade daqui. O que está faltando é mais clareza da CBF na definição de critérios e um treinamento mais efetivo não apenas para quem fica na cabine diante das TVs mas também em campo com o apito na boca.

Outro ponto importante, e já não é sem tempo de isso acontecer, é uma participação mais ativa da Fifa ditando regras claras e padronizadas para a aplicação dos protocolos em todo o mundo, já que os critérios têm variado também de acordo com quem é o dono do VAR. Teria, por exemplo, o procedimento da arbitragem ao anular – corretamente diga-se de passagem – três gols do Flamengo contra o Grêmio sido o mesmo se o jogo fosse da CBF e não da Conmebol? É uma incógnita mas, pelo que tem se visto no Brasileirão, talvez o lance do empurrão de Gabigol antes da conclusão de Everton Ribeiro contra a meta gremista, não fosse considerado pelos juízes do VAR-Brasil como um lance que os levasse a chamar o arbitro de campo para anular a jogada

Apesar do acirramento das polêmicas e de interpretações com uma boa dose de divergência, o que não se justifica são as insinuações de que o VAR tem camisa e que as decisões da arbitragem estejam beneficiando este ou prejudicando intencionalmente aquele clube. Pule-se essa parte. Alimentar teorias da conspiração faz parte da cultura futebolística tupiniquim. E em nada contribui para o debate de problemas que são reais, nem para melhorar o nível dos nossos campeonatos.

Former England batsman Mark Butcher believes people are beginning to “see the merits” of ensuring more England players are involved in future editions of the IPL. Butcher, who is India on assignment with British broadcaster , told ESPNcricinfo that watching games from the grounds has been like “nothing else I’ve ever seen at cricket grounds around the world.””It’s quite remarkable, the fervour for the game and the atmosphere and the skill level,” he said. “When the IPL first began, it was more about what was happening off the field; giving the older players a bit of a pay day. In the last three-four years, though, the standard of cricket and the way that the game is being taken a lot more seriously and the way that the skills have been elevated to a new level has made it a wonderful combination. I have no doubt whatsoever that any players – whether they being young or old – will only improve by experiencing it and playing it.”Butcher is convinced that young England players, especially those identified as key to their limited-overs plans in the years ahead, such as Jos Buttler, Alex Hales, Chris Woakes and the likes, will benefit immensely from playing in the IPL. However, he said, they can only hope to attract interest from franchises if they are available to participate in the entire season and not for a short period, as is the case currently.”At the moment, because English players initially couldn’t stay for the entire duration of the tournament which meant that their price was not worth paying, people are not even looking at English players to play in the competition,” he said. “So, that’s going to change. I have no doubt about that. It will take us a little while because it always takes us a little while to catch up with things but people are now beginning to see the merits.”England’s shocking early exit from the World Cup has led to considerable churn in the country about how to bridge the gap with other countries in the limited-overs formats. Butcher believes that outcome has put “more pressure” to try and find ways to get more English players involved in the IPL.”If you play all your domestic cricket in one country, you do not know how cricketers do it in other countries like Bangladesh or India or South Africa,” he said. “Everybody has their own different things that they bring to the table. What we’re seeing with these players is that with them being exposed to more leagues around the world, it is no longer difficult for a New Zealander to come out and play brilliantly on slow Indian pitches. They know how to do it. That’s the learning curve you get by being here for six weeks.”While Butcher didn’t think it was possible to tweak the county season to allow English players to play the IPL, he advocated considering what he described as a “short-term loss” over “long-term gain”.”I think what the ECB and the counties have to look at is how much we gain in the long run by exposing some of our brightest and the best to competitions like the IPL,” he said. “You might lose out a little bit in the short term by missing your best players but what you will gain in the long term is the knowledge of playing under pressure when they come back which will pay dividends later on in the long run. So, you have to speculate a little bit to accumulate.”Former England batsman and coach David Lloyd, who also had his first first-hand experience of the IPL as a commentator this season, was equally enthused after his stint. Writing in his blog on , Lloyd conceded that while cricket won’t enjoy the same following in the UK as India, a template similar to the Big Bash League in Australia should be considered by the ECB.”We can certainly stage something very similar to the Big Bash. That would be our template – have eight teams, who play everybody twice,” Lloyd wrote. “If we could find a three-to-four-week window and block it off – that’s what all the players want but you’ve got to sell that idea to 18 counties so there’s got to be a will to do it that way. You’d have to play it alongside Test-match cricket – as they do in Australia – to fit it into the schedule and you’d have to try to attract the best players in the world and make it a real event.”

O clássico Fla-Flu é um dos grandes jogos da rodada do Brasileirão. Antes do duelo deste domingo, em entrevista ao Esporte Espetacular, o meia Paulo Henrique Ganso admitiu o favoritismo do Flamengo, mas frisou que o Fluminense pode dificultar para o lado dos rubro-negros. – Pelo futebol apresentado (o Flamengo) é completamente favorito. O Flamengo é uma bela equipe, uma bela equipe que está fazendo um grande trabalho, principalmente, no Brasileirão, Vem fazendo as coisas certas, mantém a regularidade. Vai ser um grande clássico. This was as satisfying a result for Yorkshire as it was a source of dismay for Nottinghamshire, who began the season with expectations of challenging Yorkshire’s grip on the title but instead find themselves bottom of the table at almost the halfway stage, having lost four of their last five matches.They would acknowledge that Yorkshire are a better side, with strength in all departments, but it is the manner of the defeat that will give cause for concern. More than 200 behind on first innings, they batted as if knowing from the start that saving the match might well prove beyond them and Yorkshire ruthlessly finished them off to win by an innings.It left Mick Newell, their director of cricket, obliged to concede that his side are in a relegation fight. “Looking at the table now, there are three sides who are clearly in trouble and another, Sussex, who are not that far in front,” he said. “You would say that the two who go down are likely to be from those four and it is up to us to make sure we are not one of the two.”They have some work to do to achieve that goal, which is a modest one for a side blessed with so much talent. Their bowling resources lack a depth of experience and they were bolstered considerably here by the availability of Stuart Broad, who might have enjoyed his 29th birthday a little more had his 7 for 84 not been overshadowed by such an abject defeat.Broad’s record with Nottinghamshire has by circumstance been limited. They climb to second in the table, nine points behind Durham and with a game in hand, with perfect timing for their meeting at Chester-le-Street next week, beginning on Sunday.At the start of the day Broad, who had dismissed both of the title holders’ openers cheaply on Tuesday, make similarly short work of their two centurions, dismissing Andrew Gale with the last ball of his first over and Jack Leaning with the third delivery of his third, which was a testament to his skill and his willingness to apply himself to a vigorous pre-Ashes workout.For a while, after Jonny Bairstow, joining this match at the halfway point after Tuesday’s Twenty20 duty with England, had breezed in and out for a rapid and carefree 15 it seemed Nottinghamshire might fight back, even from 101 behind.But there was a half-century from Tim Bresnan still to come, with support from James Middlebrook and then Steve Patterson, and although Broad came back to dispense with the lower orders and complete his second best analysis in Championship cricket, the lead by then was a more daunting 206.Somewhat ironically, given his recent troubles, Broad also top scored with the bat, which tended only to highlight how poor were those around him. The way we’ve gone about it first and second innings with the ball, I think the lines and lengths we bowled were outstanding. Then, with the bat, that partnership between Galey and Jack Leaning was sensational.”

O Botafogo nunca esteve em uma posição tão baixa na classificação do Campeonato Brasileiro. Com exceção da primeira rodada, quando foi derrotado pelo São Paulo por 2 a 0 e terminou em 17º, a 14ª colocação, posição finalizada após o término da 29ª rodada e a derrota para o Cruzeiro, no Estádio Nilton Santos, na última quinta-feira, é a pior do Alvinegro na competição.

Vale ressaltar que, obviamente, que três pontos representam a maior quantidade possível de alcançar na primeira rodada. Por isto, a 17ª colocação na jornada inicial do Brasileirão não representava uma preocupação. Agora, o Botafogo se vê cada vez mais perto da zona de rebaixamento. Com a derrota, a diferença para a degola é de três pontos.

Esta também representa a menor distância do Botafogo para a zona de rebaixamento desde o começo do segundo turno. O Alvinegro, que chegou a lutar por uma vaga no G6 antes da Copa América, caiu de rendimento após a competição entre seleções. Com o choque de realdade, a disputa, de forma definitiva, é para se manter na primeira divisão.

O Fluminense, primeiro clube no rebaixamento, tem 30 pontos. O Botafogo, com 33, possui duas vitórias a mais em relação ao rival, o que dá vantagem nos critérios de desempate. A sequência do Alvinegro, porém, não promete ser fácil: no próximo domingo, enfrenta o Santos, terceiro colocado, na Vila Belmiro, às 20h. Quatro dias depois, enfrenta o Flamengo, líder, no Estádio Nilton Santos, às 21h.

Diante do Cruzeiro, faltou organização tática. O Botafogo se fez presente no campo de ataque, mas muito mais por meio da vibração, empurrados pelos gritos nas arquibancadas, do que por organização dentro de campo. Apesar das 20 finalizações, apenas cinco destas foram na direção do gol de Fábio e o Alvinegro teve três chances reais de marcar – Marcinho finalizou de longe e a bola passou perto após duas confusões na área.

​O Alvinegro exagerou nos cruzamentos. Ao todo, foram 34 bolas alçadas no ar, mas sete acertam o alvo prometido, o que representa uma taxa de acerto de 7%. O Cruzeiro, que conquistou a vantagem por meio da bola parada, adotou a estratégia de esperar no próprio campo e, guiado por uma atuação acima da média do sistema defensivo – e também por algumas práticas para o tempo passar, como o anti-jogo – venceu a partida.

No começo do segundo tempo, principalmente, o Botafogo sufocou o Cruzeiro em busca do gol. Os primeiros minutos da etapa complementar foram marcados apenas por ataques do Alvinegro, pressionado em busca do empate. As tentativas, porém, não surtiram efeito. Quando teve a bola, o time buscava acionar os pontas, mas a bola nunca chegava à área com qualidade. Portanto, as tentativas de finalização foram prejudicadas.

-Foi até um pedido meu no intervalo para que antes de falar algo tático ou de posicionamento, pedi aos jogadores que tivessem tranquilidade, porque iríamos criar as oportunidades. Que fossemos lúcidos para tentar fazer a penúltima e a última bola e para que concretizássemos em gol. Para que não nos desorganizássemos defensivamente para que as jogadas saíssem normalmente. São situações que fogem um pouco pelo clima do jogo, importante, de confronto direto e com duas grandes equipes – afirmou Alberto Valentim, após a partida.

Faltou organização. Por mais que tenha sobrado vontade, o meio-campo ainda não se entendeu com o ataque. Diego Souza, longe do gol, não assustou e foi um mero antagonista da partida. O camisa 7, afastado da meta, até participa mais da construção de jogadas no campo defensivo – mas, diante de um time que resolveu recuar, tal movimentação não surtiu efeito. O atleta não teve oportunidade de finalização e saiu de campo sem nenhuma chance real. Por fim, a derrota liga, definitivamente, o alerta contra as últimas posições.
