Andre Gomes optimism is great news for an Everton side building

Standout performer Andre Gomes could be an Everton player come summer with the club preparing a £25 million bid to sign him on a permanent basis.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona are ready to cash in on their former Valencia flop at the end of the season, with both Everton and Inter Milan both interested in securing his services.

The Portuguese midfielder has been one of the few standout talents this season and will be a welcome return this summer, especially with Idrissa Gueye’s future at the club looking increasingly unattainable – following firm interest from French giants Paris Saint Germain in January (Sky Sports).

The Barcelona man is not short of suitors, however. Inter Milan are also said to be in the market for a midfielder, following a disappointing season from Roma recruit Radja Nainggolan, and could be in pole position to secure his signature thanks to their European status.

If Gomes is feeling sentimental, though, there is surely every chance that he will opt to extend his stay at Goodison Park and a £25 million bid for his services should suffice.

Sport have even gone as far to suggest that a deal has been agreed in principle between the Silva and the player’s representatives and is just waiting on the go-ahead from his current full-time employers Barcelona.

Signing Gomes would be huge for Everton’s future plans. Indeed, as far as we concerned, he is good enough for the club to build a team around, and if they head into the next transfer window with the same sort of free-spending mentality as the last one, they will surely recruit enough quality to build on their current disastrous season.

Everton fans, would you be happy to see Andre Gomes make a permanent move? Let us know in the comments below…

Southampton fans not happy as James Ward-Prowse remains on the England bench

[ad_pod ]

Furious Southampton fans took to Twitter to fume about the non-selection of midfielder James Ward-Prowse for England’s UEFA 2020 European Championship qualifier away at Montenegro.

The Saints man remained on the Three Lions’ bench in Podgorica, just like he did last Friday evening when Gareth Southgate’s men welcomed the Czech Republic to Wembley Stadium.

Ward-Prowse was forced to watch most of the evening’s action from the sidelines, only getting on the pitch for the final eight minutes of the 5-1 win as he replaced Ross Barkley.

A large group of Southampton supporters strongly believe the in-form 24-year-old should have made the starting Xl for the game and it’s hard to disagree with them when you consider his six goals in his last nine Premier League matches.

One simply commented sarcastically “shock,” whilst others suggested some kind of feud between the player and Southgate as the reason for his non-selection and showed disgust at Declan Rice being selected ahead of him.

He’s our Beckenbauer: Sheffield Wednesday fans laud Hector as player of the season

[ad_pod ]

Sheffield Wednesday have been in phenomenal form recently with Steve Bruce steadying a ship that was heading through choppy waters under Jos Luhukay.

He’s guided them to 11th in the Championship, just three points outside the play-offs. But one of their best players, who has performed under Luhukay and Bruce has been Michael Hector. Fans were in agreement that he was their best player this season, reacting to a poll on Twitter as they were faced with a key decision.

A host of Wednesday supporters chose him as their best player in 2018/19 with one fan drooling over his displays, labelling him the Owls’ Franz Beckenbauer.

Another individual expressed that the club needed to sign him up, making reference to the fact that the defender is only on loan from Chelsea.

There were honourable mentions from some supporters for Steven Fletcher, Liam Palmer and Keiren Westwood.

The 26-year-old has been a rock for the Yorkshire club this term, playing 32 times whilst winning 3.7 aerial duels per game.

Here’s what the Hillsborough faithful have been saying about the Jamaican international.

Newcastle fans on Twitter were absolutely loving their club’s post on Sunday

Newcastle fans will have massively enjoyed the events of Sunday afternoon. As their squad was touching down in the capital ahead of yesterday’s trip to Arsenal, their Tyne-Wear rivals, Sunderland, were playing the Checkatrade Trophy final where they lost to Pompey on penalties.

Whilst the Magpies may have been a day early for April Fools day, they still managed to successfully mug off their rivals with their very well timed tweet. As Sunderland fans would have been in tears over their Wembley loss, the Geordies were arriving in London on what was described by their Twitter admin as a ‘glorious afternoon’ and none of the travelling Newcastle fans would disagree with that.

In recent years, Sunderland have been able to boast a superior record over Newcastle when it comes to clashes between the two sides, yet now that the Black Cats are rotting in League One it’s hard to see a way that the two sides will be meeting anytime soon, unless of course, they find themselves clashing in a domestic cup game. That won’t bother the Geordies one bit, though as they’ve loved seeing Sunderland flailing.

You can read the Magpies’ reaction to their club’s cracking tweet here:

The Geordies love content like their club’s tweet from Sunday, and anything to troll their bitter rivals will always go down well with the St James Park faithful.

The Chalkboard: Alberto Moreno should be trusted to play against Porto

[ad_pod ]

With Andy Robertson set to sit out Liverpool’s quarter-final tie against Porto tonight due to suspension, the most likely replacement for the Scotsman is James Milner, who, as we all know, is versatile enough to fill in at left-back.

The 33-year-old midfielder spent the entirety of the 2016/17 campaign playing in that position, although when the Reds welcome Porto to Anfield, he should not be given the nod to line up on the left of defence.

Instead, a quite unpopular figure on Merseyside should come in: Alberto Moreno.

Mo Salah has been brutally mocked for his recent diving antics in a new video by 442oons. Check it out below…

The Spaniard has endured an error-ridden time at the club since arriving from Sevilla back in 2014 in a £12m deal. Moreno often lacks the concentration required at the top level, something which has upset the Liverpool fanbase who demand their players to be switched on and full of desire.

However, what the 26-year-old is good at is bombing forward and contributing in the final third – it is why Barcelona are reportedly interested in snapping him up as Jordi Alba’s understudy when Moreno’s contract expires this summer.

Additionally, it is worth noting that Moreno has never really been afforded a run in the team whilst Virgil van Dijk has been at the club. The Dutchman has completely transformed the Reds’ previously flimsy backline into the Premier League’s best this season, and appears to instil confidence and belief in his fellow defenders.

The impact of the full-backs has been a huge feature under Jurgen Klopp this season, and it would be detrimental to put the slower, less attack-minded Milner in as a replacement for Robertson, a player who is the polar opposite in terms of his willingness to get forward.

For example, when the former Leeds United man had to step in and replace Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back for two games towards the end of January, Liverpool looked toothless and recorded disappointing 1-1 draws against Leicester and West Ham – the athleticism and attacking play from the full-backs is pivotal in getting results.

Moreno may have a mistake in him, but his similarities to Robertson going forward will be vital if Liverpool are to gain a stranglehold of this tie early on – with Van Dijk assisting him in defence, it is worth playing the Spanish ace for what he contributes going forward.

Sky Sports’ Paul Merson wide of the mark with dodgy Palace vs City prediction

[ad_pod ]

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has given his latest round of Premier League predictions and failed to recognise a key trend in a wide-of-the-mark statement on the Crystal Palace vs Manchester City match.

What’s he said, then?

Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens make the tricky trip to Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon in dodgy form, coming off of Champions League disappointment at Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening.

Before that, they could only just edge past Brighton & Hove Albion in the Emirates FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley last weekend.

Whereas, Roy Hodgson’s Eagles are high on confidence following an impressive away three points at Newcastle United the last time they took to the field.

Predicting a 2-1 triumph for Blue Moon, Merson commented the following on the intriguing encounter:

“I think Man City win because Palace haven’t been great – especially at home. But it’s down to pressure, now. They could be 1-0 up and cruising, with five minutes to play. And then from a set play it could be 1-1 and that could be it.

“It’s getting to that stage. They lacked a bit of cutting edge against Brighton and again in midweek in the Champions League. I don’t know if that’s them hitting a brick wall.

“I think they’ll have just about enough here but it’ll be a tense game.”

Sorry Paul – this one’s off target

Talking about the match, the Arsenal legend hasn’t picked up on an important pattern that’s developed in meetings of these teams recently.

Merson didn’t mention the fact that the Cityzens have really struggled in these sides’ last two meetings, in a way they haven’t against any other lower opposition.

There’s good news for fans of City, Liverpool, Spurs and United in the video below…

Last season, Guardiola’s men’s 100 per cent record came to an end at Selhurst and just before Christmas, they were stunned by the South Londoners 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium.

Combine these facts with City’s lackadaisical form and we get the recipe for Palace getting a result, in contrary to Merson’s prediction.

West Ham fans react to ‘magic carpet’

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United supporters have reacted with sarcasm to the laying of the Claret ‘carpet’ surrounding the pitch at the London Stadium.

The club, per Football.London, are looking to unveil the carpet against Leicester City this weekend when the two sides meet in the Premier League.

A green cover was initially installed to hide the running track when the Hammers moved into the stadium back in 2016.

But that has now been changed as the Irons look to bring more identity into their ground.

The carpet features Hammers branding as well as being the same colour as the club’s home shirt.

Football.London report that the previous cover had actually been deemed unsafe and that the Irons’ owners, David Sullivan and David Gold, essentially had no choice but to replace it.

The unveiling has led to much mirth and sarcasm around the fanbase, with several green patches still visible, and many wondering if it will have any tangible effect on matters on the pitch.

Tottenham fans left fuming at Alli display

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans were left fuming with Dele Alli’s performance against West Ham United on Saturday.

Spurs lost 1-0 to Manuel Pellegrini’s men, who subsequently became the first away team to win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Alli started the game in midfield and struggled, as he appeared to be half-fit.

Per WhoScored, the England international was dispossessed twice throughout the 90 minutes and failed to make a single tackle, clearance or interception.

He has not scored for the club since January, when Spurs beat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage.

A host of injury problems have plagued Alli since, while he has also failed to hit the net in the Champions League.

Later this week, Spurs face Ajax in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final and it remains to be seen if Mauricio Pochettino will pick the playmaker after such a woeful display against the Hammers.

And fans have weighed in on the star’s display, with many left enraged by his performance. Take a look at the best of the reaction below!

Tottenham fans want to sign Ruben Neves after he helps down Arsenal

[ad_pod ]

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves shone and scored a brilliant free-kick in his side’s 3-1 win against Arsenal at Molineux on Wednesday night, and his display didn’t go unnoticed by Tottenham Hotspur fans who are keen for their club to sign him.

The 22-year-old was one of Wolves’ biggest stars in the Championship last term and he has brought that form into the Premier League during the current campaign, scoring four goals and providing a further two assists in 32 top-flight outings.

His stunning set-piece against the Gunners was particularly impressive and proves the quality he has in his locker when it comes to taking free-kicks, and that hasn’t gone unnoticed by Spurs supporters who were clearly watching on as their arch-rivals suffered a defeat in the exciting race for a top-four finish.

Should Neves end up arriving at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium he would likely be competing with the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and Christian Eriksen – if he stays – for a spot in the starting XI.

Speaking about the Portuguese’s latest performance, one Spurs fan said it’s “my dream” to see him play for his team, while another said “get him in a Spurs shirt”.

Relive all the drama of Man City v Spurs through the eyes Spurs’ fans in the video below…

Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy may well choose to make waves in the summer transfer window following two without any additions, but it remains to be seen whether they would be interested in Neves.

The new Bramble: Newcastle fans slam Lascelles following another poor performance

[ad_pod ]

It would be fair to say that a number of Newcastle United fans were not pleased with the performance of skipper Jamaal Lascelles in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Liverpool.

Newcastle actually played very well for long stages of the clash with Jurgen Klopp’s side, but Divock Origi’s 86th-minute header secured all three points for the Reds.

Lascelles was certainly guilty of missing a few headers during the 90 minutes, and it was a tough night for the Magpies captain against the free-scoring title hopefuls.

It is generally thought that Lascelles is a player capable of excellence, but simply makes too many mistakes to be considered as a potential starter for England.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez must be seeing something positive from the 25-year-old on a daily basis to continue playing him.

But a number of the club’s fans hated what they saw from the central defender at St James’ Park on Saturday evening, and for the majority of the season.
