West Ham will ‘go as hard as they can’ to sign Lingard

According to West Ham United insider Claret & Hugh, GSB and co will go ‘as hard as they can’ to seal the permanent signing of Jesse Lingard this summer.

The Latest: Lingard transfer saga…

West Ham are very eager to sign Lingard permanently after his sensational loan spell, with reports suggesting he is a priority for this summer alongside a new striker.

However, the Mail dropped a rather worrying claim recently that West Ham could miss out on the 28-year-old due to his high salary demands combined with financial difficulties caused by COVID-19.

The Latest: GSB will ‘go as hard as they can’ to seal permanent deal

Refuting that report, despite West Ham’s monetary complications, club insider C&H have now reassured supporters that the Hammers will ‘go as hard as they can’ to seal Lingard’s permanent signing this summer.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-rumours-and-gossip-two%2c-electric-boogaloo/” title=”West Ham rumours and gossip two, electric boogaloo” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Indeed, he apparently remains very much at the forefront of manager David Moyes’ summer transfer wish list and it is their understanding Lingard will be a top target.

West Ham’s possible qualification for Europe will only strengthen their bid to sign the Manchester United man at the end of this season but the club will ‘do everything’ try and bring him in for the 2021/2022 season.

The Verdict: And breathe…

The Mail’s report came as a worry for supporters given their desire to sign Lingard on a permanent basis.

He has been a revelation for West Ham since joining in January, scoring nine goals and assisting three others in just 13 Premier League starts (WhoScored).

Such impressive form has propelled him back into England contention as the European Championships loom this summer, with C&H’s piece potentially coming as a sigh of relief.

Making Lingard an Irons player indefinitely should be one of the club’s top, top priorities after his run and it’s evident by all the praise he has received from the media.

Pundit Alan Shearer recently explained to the Premier League’s official website how he looked set to become a ‘magnificent signing’ by Moyes and Lingard’s numbers since then have certainly backed that glowing statement.

Palmer expects Diagne to leave West Brom

Former West Brom midfielder Carlton Palmer has told Football FanCast in an exclusive interview that he expects Mbaye Diagne and the Baggies to part ways this summer.

Diagne, who joined West Brom from Galatasaray at the end of January, is only at the Hawthorns on loan, but the Midlands club do have an option to buy.

However, following West Brom’s relegation to the Championship, the 29-year-old striker is now being linked with other Premier League sides.

According to Football Insider, the likes of Wolves and Crystal Palace are currently interested, with his parent club said to have slapped an £8m price tag on his head.

When asked by FFC whether there was any chance of Diagne remaining at West Brom next season, Palmer said:

“I think a lot of the problem is going to be the salaries. Remember the Premier League salaries, even though the Championship salaries are good, the Premier League salaries are a lot higher than the Championship.

“Will West Brom think that they can get somebody in a lot cheaper to get them promotion?

“I’m sure there’ll be some movement because these players, you know, if you’ve got ambitions of international honours and whatever, you need to be playing in the top league.”

While Diagne has not been at his prolific best since joining West Brom, he has shown glimpses of being a very capable forward in the Premier League.

The Senegal international has delivered a couple of big goals, bagging in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United and that incredible 5-2 win over Chelsea.

Fresh twist emerges in Derby takeover saga

Derby County’s proposed takeover by Spanish businessman Erik Alonso is officially off, while talks have begun with another potential suitor.

What’s the latest?

That’s according to a report by the BBC, who claim that Alonso’s No Limit Sports Limited company – who had agreed a deal to purchase the Rams last month – have been unable to complete the transaction.

Indeed, The Telegraph’s John Percy had claimed on Thursday that Mel Morris was prepared to walk away from negotiations with Alonso after fearing that the Spaniard could not fund the purchase of the club.

However, Percy also went on to reveal that Morris has now resumed talks with an American consortium regarding the sale of the Rams, with the 58-year-old believed to be desperate to wash his hands of the Championship side.

Great news for fans

While the collapse of a potential takeover is not normally great news for fans, the fact that Alonso will not be taking control of Derby would appear to be a very good thing for the Pride Park faithful indeed.

Following the confirmation that Morris had agreed to sell the club to the Spaniard, the 29-year-old subsequently went on a spree of making embarrassing faux-pas – from it being revealed that he had attempted to refinance Derby County’s stadium in order to have enough funds to purchase the club, suggesting that he wanted to lead the Rams to the rather unrealistic target of Champions League football and being caught out for attempting to claim that an image he had found online was his own property.

As such, the news that Alonso will not be Derby’s new owner should come as relieving news for fans of the club, as it would appear that the Spaniard would have brought something of a circus with him to the Championship side, in addition to the fact it seemed he would not have had the financial capability to properly invest in the squad.

Furthermore, Percy’s claim that an American consortium are now in talks to purchase the club would also appear to be good news for Derby fans, who will certainly want to get new owners in as quickly as possible in order for the club to move on from their rather disastrous 2020/21 campaign.

WBA fans react to Pereira injury report

Matheus Pereira may have already played his last game for West Bromwich Albion.

Pereira is an injury doubt for Albion’s final game of the season away to Leeds United on Sunday, with West Brom’s relegation back to the Championship already confirmed.

All they have left to scrap for at Elland Road is an 18th-place finish, with Fulham currently two points ahead.

According to Express and Star reporter Joseph Masi, Sam Allardyce will make a late decision on whether Pereira is able to feature – the Brazilian will have to prove his fitness on Saturday.

Pereira has posted team-high tallies of 11 goals and six assists in the league this season.

According to The Athletic, Midlands rivals Aston Villa are one of the Premier League sides monitoring Pereira – West Brom paid £8.25million last summer to sign Pereira permanently.

Here’s how fans reacted to Masi’s update, with one supporter admitting they will be ‘sad’ to see the playmaker leave.

LFC fans delighted at big Salah update

A number of Liverpool fans have been showing their happiness at the news that Mohamed Salah could reportedly sign a new deal this summer.

The Reds didn’t have a huge amount to shout about last season, even though they ended up salvaging their campaign with a third-place finish.

It was a year that saw so many players drop below their best level, with the likes of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino particularly culpable, in that respect.

Someone who couldn’t be blamed for Liverpool’s shortcomings was Salah, however, with the Egyptian scoring 31 goals, in all competitions.

The 28-year-old showed what a priceless player he remains and the idea of him leaving the club doesn’t bear thinking about.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, Liverpool will focus their attention on tying Salah down to a new deal this summer, hoping he commits his future to the club well into his 30s.

Everton fans react to Lucas Digne exit link

PSG are monitoring Everton left-back Lucas Digne, according to French outlet Le10 Sport.

The Parisians, who missed out to Lille on the Ligue 1 title recently, are said to be keen to strengthen their defence and have identified the 27-year-old as a possible option.

Could Digne really go back to PSG?

Digne has previously spent three years in the French capital, as PSG signed him from Lille back in 2013 for a fee of £13.5m. In 2016, having spent time on loan at Roma, Digne moved to Barcelona for £14.85m, and Everton then shelled out £18.2m to bring him to Goodison Park two years later.

He has gone to rack up a century of appearances for the Toffees, contributing 18 assists in that time. Among his team-mates, only Gylfi Sigurdsson (10) and James Rodriguez (eight) set up more goals than Digne (seven) in the 2020/21 season, despite him playing as a left-back.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side eyeing two Blues

This may not be the only business conducted between PSG and Everton. According to Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs remain in talks over a permanent deal for Toffees striker Moise Kean, who spent last season on loan at the Parc des Princes.

Twitter account Everton News Feed relayed the report on Digne, and here’s the pick of the reactions from Toffees supporters.

Wolves ready to sell Sanderson

A major update has emerged about Sunderland transfer target Dion Sanderson.

What’s the talk?

According to Football Insider, Premier League side Wolves have decided that they are ready to cash in on Sunderland target Dion Sanderson. The report claims that Wolves are not going to wait for a new manager to be appointed and that they are prepared to sell him as soon as possible for a fee in the region of £2m.

Sunderland are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Sanderson on a permanent basis. The other clubs are not named in the report, but they are said to be from the Championship and League One. Sunderland believe that the relationship they built with Sanderson during his time on loan at the club can help them secure his services ahead of the other parties.

Former Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson hailed Sanderson as an “athletic” player upon his arrival at the Stadium of Light on loan last year. He told Sunderland’s official website:

“I’m pleased to welcome Dion to the club. He’s a young and athletic player who will add further competition to the squad.”

Fans will be buzzing

Sunderland fans will be buzzing to read this update as it is the clearest indication yet that a permanent move could be possible for Sanderson.

Wolves are ready to sell him and the Black Cats could now profit from this by snapping him up and adding him to their squad on a long-term contract heading into next season. It would not only be a boost to the short-term ambitions of the club, but it could also aid their long-term planning as well.

In the short-term, he could be a key cog in Lee Johnson’s squad next season. The defender averaged a solid WhoScored rating of 6.88 in 17 League One starts at centre-back in the 2020/21 campaign on loan to Sunderland, which shows that he already knows how to be a reliable performer within Johnson’s set-up. He has also shown off his versatility at the Stadium of Light by playing at right-back and left-back, offering Johnson flexibility in the way that he can use him within his squad next term.

Bringing Sanderson in on a permanent basis could also be an excellent piece of business for the long-term. Sanderson doesn’t turn 22 until December and has plenty of years ahead of him to develop and grow as a player and as a person.

Playing regular first-team football with Sunderland in League One could help him progress and improve as he will be gaining valuable experience week-in-week-out against seasoned League One professionals. This could allow the £2m beast to grow alongside Sunderland and he could become a Championship standard player in time for the club’s potential promotion.

This is a deal that the Black Cats must get done, if they do, their fans would be delighted.

Pundit unsure on David Moyes swapping Everton for West Ham

Carlton Palmer believes that having money to spend could persuade David Moyes to return to Everton, but said that remaining at West Ham might be his best option.

Following the surprise recent departure of Carlo Ancelotti back to Real Madrid last month, the Toffees are now searching for a replacement ahead of the start of the 2021-2022 season.

And along with former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo, Moyes has emerged as a potential contender to replace Ancelotti and return to Goodison Park more than eight years after leaving.

Moyes spent 11 years at Everton between 2002 and 2003, only departing to become Manchester United manager after Sir Alex Ferguson finally retired.

But the Scot is currently on the verge of penning a new long-term contract with West Ham having led the Hammers into Europe for the first time in five seasons following their sixth-place finish.

And whilst Palmer thinks that Everton’s budget could convince Moyes to reject West Ham’s offer, he gave a one-word verdict exclusively to Football FanCast when asked if he could actually see the 58-year-old making the move:

“Maybe. If there’s money to spend at Everton, they’ve already got a good squad there.

“He’s in a very strong position in terms of what he’s achieved at West Ham, but I’m one of those people where if you’ve done what you’ve done and got the momentum where you are, then why leave?”

Wolves transfer update on Alena

Many Wolves fans have been left to laud a transfer update involving Carles Alena.
As per Sport, the Midlands club are interested in signing the FC Barcelona ace in the summer window, while Valencia, Granada and Getafe are also in the race for his signature. What has really grabbed the attention of the Molineux faithful though is that he is available for a mere €8m (£6.9m), a bargain price for the rising 23-year-old star.Alena spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Getafe and showed a lot of promise, scoring two goals and making a further two assists in 22 La Liga matches while also showing his added ability to play in a number of different roles (Transfermarkt).Nonetheless, to get him for just £6.9m could turn out to be an absolute steal, providing that the Wanderers can fend off their competition.

Pundit claims Fonseca is the worst option for Spurs - Exclusive

When Jose Mourinho was sacked earlier this year many Tottenham Hotspur fans expected the club to make a statement appointment to set them up for the coming years, however former Spurs star Paul Stewart believes that Paulo Fonseca is certainly not the right man.

Fonseca was renowned for an attacking and brave style of football during his time with both Shakhtar Donetsk and Roma, and that will please Spurs fans who were deprived of a lot of exciting football last season under Mourinho as Spurs only won a league game by more than one goal 13 times.

The former Roma manager has reportedly agreed personal terms with Spurs and a lot of fans will already have an opinion on him after seeing what his Roma side were like during the Europa League semi-final against Manchester United, and it’s safe to say they didn’t look great, getting brushed aside 8-5 on aggregate.

Spurs fans will want a manager to come in and play exciting and front-foot football, something which was an ever-present under Mauricio Pochettino and despite Fonseca being likely to bring this, Stewart claims he could be the worst option for his former club as he spoke exclusively to Football FanCast:

“He’s the last and worst option, because like you said, when you watched them against Man United they were totally outclassed and were never in the tie at all, and Levy is looking at someone like him to bring success to Spurs.”

With a relatively limited Roma side, Fonseca turned them into an exciting team to watch with how many goals they both scored and conceded but it was also the volume of chances they created with 3.05 goal creating actions per 90 minutes, the sixth-best in the Serie A.

Fonseca won plaudits across Europe during his time at Shakhtar Donetsk for the fearless and attacking style of play in the Champions League, even beating Manchester City 2-1 during the 2017/18 season.
