Sangare a "possible target" for Aston Villa

Aston Villa could use the money from Carney Chukwuemeka’s sale on new signings before deadline day on September 1st, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke…

What’s the word?

The Midlands outfit completed a lot of their business early with sporting director Johan Lange bringing in as many as five signings, including a £26m swoop for Diego Carlos from Sevilla and Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer from Marseille.

Chukwuemeka, who had rejected Villa’s latest contract offer, is now on the verge of signing for Premier League rivals Chelsea in a £20m deal, as per The Athletic, and O’Rourke has tipped them to reinvest instantly.

And PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare is one name that has been ‘mentioned’ around Villa Park. The Ivory Coast international has been linked with a move to B6 throughout the summer window.

Speaking to Football FanCast, the reporter said:

“I think it gives Steven Gerrard more money and space in the squad maybe to go and bring in another new signing as well.

“Obviously they were quite busy at the start of the window, bringing in Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara, but I’m sure Steven Gerrard would like to add further to his squad.

“Sangare has been mentioned as a possible target. He’s had a couple of really good seasons as PSV Eindhoven. I think he’s got a buyout clause in his contract as well. He looks a talented player.

“I’m sure Aston Villa will be exploring the market right now to see what they can do to try and improve their squad.”

Sangare swoop

With uncertainty over the future of Douglas Luiz – who is courting interest from AC Milan – and a gap opening up in Gerrard’s squad, a move for Sangare could make a lot of sense but Lange and his recruitment staff will need to act quickly to get their man.

It’s thought that the release clause that O’Rouke has mentioned is in the region of €37.5m, meaning Villa would need to stump up around £31m to secure his signature, as per Voetbal International.

Premier League rivals Liverpool and Newcastle United have also been mooted with interest in Sangare, only increasing the pressure on the Midlands hierarchy to deliver, sooner rather than later.

The 24-year-old PSV star could be an instant hit in England as he has been likened to two former top-flight monsters in Michael Essien and Yaya Toure.

“Physically, he’s like Yaya Toure but he reminds me of Michael Essien,” African journalist Alpha Balde claimed (via GOAL). “I saw Essien at the start of his career and they had the same physical strength at an equal age. Sangare is also passionate.”

The 6 foot 3 brute, who has also been dubbed a “complete player” by former Toulouse boss Alain Casanova, was a key cog in PSV’s midfield last term, having averaged a squad-high 3.3 tackles and 2.6 interceptions per game, via WhoScored.

Meanwhile, only Cody Gakpo managed a better average rating for the whole campaign, which highlights his impressive consistency and reliability in the engine room.

As such, he could be a mighty fine addition to Gerrard’s squad this summer transfer window and now that the club have seen their coffers bolstered with a nice £20m, it would make sense for that to be reinvested in a talent like Sangare.

Leeds unlikely to sign Cody Gakpo

Dean Jones has dropped an update on reported Leeds United transfer target Cody Gakpo.

What’s the latest?

In a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider revealed that, despite a number of reports linking Victor Orta with a move for the PSV Eindhoven winger prior to September’s transfer deadline, he has been informed that the Whites are more likely to sign a new centre-forward in the coming weeks, rather than another wide attacker.

Regarding Leeds’ reported interest in the 23-year-old, Jones said: “I’ve been told to expect that Leeds would sign a player that’s more likely to play through the middle as opposed to out wide. So, given that, I wouldn’t really be expecting Gakpo to land.”

Good news for Marsch

While it is undeniable that Gakpo would be both an extremely impressive and incredibly exciting signing for Orta to get over the line this summer, considering just how short Jesse Marsch currently is at centre-forward, Jones’ claim suggesting that a new striker will be the club’s priority in the coming weeks is undoubtedly good news for the 48-year-old manager.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-much-more” title= “Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and more!”]

While the addition of a winger who scored 21 goals and registered 15 assists across 46 appearances in all competitions would by no means be a bad addition to the Whites’ attacking arsenal, considering just how reliant Leeds are on first-choice number nine Patrick Bamford, the signing of another out-and-out striker would appear extremely advisable.

Indeed, with the England international featuring just nine times in the Premier League last season as a result of numerous injuries, the Whites found goalscoring a major issue, hitting the back of the net just 42 times – the joint fourth-worst record in the division, as well as 20 fewer than the 62 goals they managed in 2020/21.

And, despite the fact that Marsch does have both Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood in his ranks, with the two players being just 20 years of age and boasting a total of 29 Premier League appearances between them – 21 and eight respectively – neither can exactly be relied upon to deputise in the event that Bamford once again becomes unavailable for any extended period this season.

As such, it is clear for all to see that Orta simply must prioritise the addition of a more experienced centre-forward over the remainder of the summer transfer window, as this signing could well prove the difference between another relegation fight or a much more comfortable mid-table finish in the league this time around.

Newcastle must seal Paqueta swoop

Newcastle United have only seen two new faces make their way to St. James’ Park during this current summer transfer window.

After securing a permanent deal for Matt Targett, the Toon brought in Nick Pope and Sven Botman to help strengthen their defence.

With some time left before the transfer window closes, this period could see the Magpies do what they haven’t done so far and add some strength and depth to their midfield or attack.

One figure that has been mentioned with a move to St. James’ Park that could arguably do both is Lucas Paqueta.

With 186 combined appearances for Flamengo, AC Milan and his current club, Olympique Lyon, to his name, the Brazilian has scored 34 goals and provided 21 assists along the way.

A move for the 24-year-old could see the Tyneside club secure what would be their own version of Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, who is included on a list of similar players to Paqueta according to Football Transfers.

To compare the duo from their previous domestic campaigns, both midfielders managed to rack up 87 shots at goal as well as over 100 shot-creating actions, which highlights how dangerous they are in attacking situations and how similar they are in terms of what they offer their sides.

Hailed as an “extraordinary” player by his manager Peter Bosz, Paqueta also managed to make more successful tackles, successful pressures and blocks than the United star, showing that he can do the hard work off the ball as well as on it.

To further highlight his attacking talent, the Brazil international ended his previous Ligue 1 campaign with the second-highest average for dribbles per game (2.3) in Lyon’s squad, which would also be the second-highest in Newcastle’s squad for last season in the Premier League behind Allan Saint-Maximin (4.3).

Bearing in mind how the Lyon figure has reported price tag of £55.4m, it would certainly be a big move from the Toon to bring him to Tyneside this summer.

However, given the clear talent he has, this could be an investment worth making for PIF and show that they can really flex their financial muscles to help push Newcastle forward.

Moving forward, if an opportunity to sign the Brazilian arises before the end of the window, this would be a great way for Eddie Howe to add some extra strength and quality to his midfield ranks.

Sky man provides key Newcastle update

Newcastle United will only buy the right transfer targets this summer, rather than take a gamble on players, says Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.

The Lowdown: Quiet summer overall

The Magpies were expected to have a relentless summer in the transfer window, making the most of their newfound wealth and bringing in some big name new signings.

Eddie Howe has been relatively quiet in the market overall, however, adhering to Financial Fair Play rules and only signing three players to date – Seven Botman, Matt Targett and Nick Pope.

There is still time for that to change but a new update makes it clear what Newcastle’s transfer approach is this summer.

The Latest: Journalist makes key claim

Speaking in an interview with Give Me Sport, Downie claimed that the Magpies will not simply waste money on players they don’t see as a perfect fit at the club:

“When you look at Leeds, they have lost Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips, so they have already lost their biggest players. It’s probably going to be even harder to do business with them.

“From some of the pieces I’ve heard, I just don’t think Newcastle are going to rush and take someone for the sake of it.

“I think it needs to be the right sort of character and the right sort of player who is going to come in and augment the squad they’ve got at the moment.”

[freshpress-quiz id=“389224″]

The Verdict: Shrewd transfer approach

While football fans love nothing more than seeing their club sign new players, this current approach is a shrewd one by Newcastle, showing the patience and eye for detail that is necessary to truly embark on a well-crafted rebuild.

[freshpress-poll id=“404554″]

For example, it feels similar to Liverpool’s strategy rather than a Manchester United approach, with the former mastering signings under Jurgen Klopp and only bringing in the perfect individual for a specific role, while the latter throw money around in desperation.

It may be frustrating to some not to see Newcastle splashing their cash on an array of glitzy new faces but the manner in which they are going about their business is refreshing and bodes well for the future.

Tottenham: Malinovskyi eyes move as Marseille deal collapses

Tottenham Hotspur may have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Atalanta star Ruslan Malinovskyi, according to reports out of Italy.

The Lowdown: Spurs in Malinovskyi hunt…

As per widespread claims, the Premier League club are targeting a move for the Ukraine forward as this summer’s transfer window slowly draws to a close.

Sporting director Fabio Paratici has already backed manager Antonio Conte with seven major signings, sealing summer deals for Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet, Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie.

Reports have suggested that Spurs are in the market for an attacking midfield player, and according to journalist Andrea Losapio, they may have been gifted a boost as they eye a move for Malinovskyi.

The Latest: Losapio shares Tottenham boost…

Taking to social media, the Italian reporter of TUTTOmercatoWEB claims that a deal between Marseille and Atalanta for the 29-year-old has ‘collapsed’.

He goes on to say that the Ligue 1 giants are ‘particularly annoyed’ and that Malinovskyi has his eyes on a move to the Premier League, and Tottenham in particular.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-3/” title=”Tottenham latest!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Losapio stated on Friday:

“The possible exchange between #Atalanta and Olympique Marseille involving Malinovskyi and Under has already collapsed last night. #OM particularly annoyed.

The Ukrainian wants to move to the Premier League, at #Tottenham”

The Verdict: Swoop in?

While Paratici and co seem yet to make a move going by this update, it appears that the door has just swung open for Spurs to hijack this deal and sign Malinovskyi before the transfer deadline.

There is every chance that the 49-cap international would upgrade Spurs’ options, with the Ukrainian possessing plenty of experience (340 club career appearances) and quality.

Indeed, he stood out as one of Atalanta’s key players last year, ranking in their top five when it comes to attempts at goal, key passes made and successful take-ons per 90 (WhoScored).

Ahead of a long season, with the added workload of Champions League football on top of a congested domestic and World Cup calendar, the more high-quality options that Conte has at his disposal, the better.

Difference between Betting on Soccer and other Sports

Soccer betting is a little different than betting on other popular sports. Soccer games have several betting options for a side and total, such as three-way money lines or taking the double chance. While soccer leagues are popular among the wagering fans, you can also check other games and their leagues including online NFL betting, NBA betting and MLS betting. New and seasoned gamblers will benefit from reading this article as they become more comfortable with betting on the most watched sport in the world.

Betting the Three-Way Moneyline

The three-way Moneyline offers the following three wagering choices, as its name suggests:

  • A win for Team A
  • A win for Team B
  • Teams A and B tie

Results for three-way Moneylines are evaluated purely based on 90 minutes of play, or “Regular Time.” This does not include overtime or penalty shootouts but rather any additional injury or stoppage time imposed at the referee’s discretion.

Betting the Two-Way Moneyline

The two-way Moneyline, which is available in two straightforward ways: Double Chance and Draw No Bet, is another way to bet on soccer. Only the 90 minutes of regulation are used to grade either.

Double Chance refers to a wager on either team winning, drawing, or winning. There are three possible outcomes:

  • Wins or ties go to Team A
  • Wins or ties go to Team B
  • Either Team B or Team A wins

The Draw No Bet wager removes the possibility of a draw, leaving only two outcomes possible:

  • A win for Team A
  • A win for Team B

These odds are typically overstated in favour of the favourite because the draw is removed from the calculation.

Betting Goal Lines (aka Spreads)

The Goal Line is a sort of wager that eliminates at least one outcome, much like betting the Two-Way Moneyline. Goal lines resemble hockey puck lines, football or basketball point spreads, and goal lines.

In soccer, a goal line is usually -0.5 goals, although, in contests where the home team is by a wide margin, the goal line may be higher, such as -1.5 or -2.5.

Betting Totals

In comparison to other sports, soccer totals function differently and can be displayed in multiple 25 goals. Because there isn’t as much scoring as in other sports, bookies frequently set a total of 2.25, 2.5, or 2.75. If you bet on Over 2.25 goals, for instance, half of your wager is placed on “Over 2,” and the other half is placed on “Over 2.5.”

If the score is 1-1, you lose your Over 2.5 bet and receive a refund for your Over two wager because it was pushed. You will win both of your chances if three or more goals are scored in the game.

The third sort of point spread that splits your stake into two separate wagers, such as -1.5 and -2, is the Asian handicap. In such a situation, you break even if your team wins by a margin of two. You both win if they defeat you by three.

Another illustration is placing a wager on Under 2.75 goals. You lay half of your wager on Under 2.5 goals and the other half on Under three goals. You would lose half of your wager (Under 2.5) and receive the other half back if the outcome was three (Under 3).

Everton must unleash Zan-Luk Leban

Everton are still in search of their first win of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign as they sit above the relegation zone on goal difference after six games.

The Toffees have drawn four and lost two of their top-flight matches so far, leaving them 16th in the table, and they face West Ham at Goodison Park in their next outing.

They will have to compete in this game without a key player after a significant injury blow to first-choice goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. He is set to be out of action for around a month with a thigh issue and will miss the clash against the Hammers.

The 28-year-old’s absence leaves Asmir Begovic as the only senior player at Goodison Park in that position, with Andy Lonergan also sidelined with a knock.

The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland has reported that the club have looked at bringing in a shot-stopper on a short-term deal to cover for the England number one, although a signing looks unlikely at this stage.

However, instead of looking at snapping up a veteran out-of-contract goalkeeper, the Toffees should be promoting a player from their youth setup in Zan-Luk Leban.

Frank Lampard could save Farhad Moshiri from needing to bring in a free agent by bringing the youngster into the first-team to cover Begovic in upcoming games – potentially starting if needed.

By doing this, the head coach could also save the club millions next summer by acting as an internal replacement for the Bosnian, whose contract expires in 2023.

Leban emerging as a first-team option could result in him being promoted to the number two role behind Pickford next season and prevent Moshiri from needing to splash out millions – whether that be in transfer fees or wages – to bring in another player.

[freshpress-quiz id=“638086″]

Boyland previously described the young shot-stopper as “exceptional” and the 6 foot 2 colossus has sufficiently caught the eye to be recognised at club and international level.

Despite not turning 20 until December, he has established himself as Everton’s first-choice in Premier League 2, with five appearances and two clean sheets this season. The gem has also been capped 14 times by Slovenia across various youth levels, which shows that his country believe that he could be a future star.

He played one match (against Morecambe) in the EFL Trophy last season and put in a phenomenal display. The youngster was given a SofaScore rating of 8.3 as he saved all five shots that he faced, made one tackle and won 100% of his duels in the match as he kept a clean sheet.

Lampard must now give the 19-year-old a chance to prove that he can provide that level of performance in Everton’s first team, whether that is with him starting in Pickford’s absence or as cover for Begovic in the meantime.

If Leban is able to make the step up and can establish himself as a serious first-team option for the Toffees, that could prevent the need for a new number two to come in next year, thus saving Moshiri millions.

Liverpool struck gold with Joe Gomez

When Liverpool brought an 18-year-old Joe Gomez to the club from Charlton Athletic in 2015, few batted an eyelid. A £3.5m price tag was all it cost, and the highly-rated starlet was theirs.

However, as the years have gone on and the Reds have altered their centre-back pairings, he has remained the one constant in that position during Jurgen Klopp’s Anfield reign.

Now 25 years old, the Englishman has featured 148 times for Liverpool  and has impressed with his lightning speed and defensive instincts.

He is still not the finished article, but he has been there throughout the club’s revival under the German and grown alongside it.

What has also grown is his market value, with Transfermarkt now rating him at £22.5m. This marks an astounding 542% increase in value since making the move to Anfield seven years ago and is yet another example of FSG’s fine work in the market.

With his many appearances during this period, he has a suitably impressive trophy cabinet to go with it. He is a Premier League champion, a Champions League winner, featured in both their FA Cup and Carabao Cup triumphs last season and has also lifted the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Community Shield.

He has won it all at Liverpool, and when the context of his price tag is taken into account, it makes his acquisition all the more intelligent.

Even despite their patchy form to start off this season, with his own defensive credentials called into question, he has averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.06 whilst averaging 1.8 interceptions, 1.6 tackles and 1.2 clearances per game. That ranks him among the top three players at Anfield for each metric.

Klopp has also been quite vocal in his admiration for the defender, about whom he claimed in 2020: “He is a sensational footballer, which is good. He has outstanding speed, which helps us a lot to keep our last line high; he is a really good challenger; good in one-on-one situations; football-wise, I said already, good.

“The package is really nice. It was always clear in the moment he starts playing and can get rhythm again, everything will be fine – and that’s how it is.”

Liverpool have struck gold once again with Gomez, who has made his initial transfer outlay from 2015 look like chickenfeed considering what he has achieved since.

Manchester United working on Vanderson move

Manchester United are looking to finalise a 2023 deal for AS Monaco defender Vanderson.

The Lowdown: Vanderson profiled

Vanderson is primarily a right-back who can also play further forward as a right-midfielder or right-winger. The 21-year-old only joined Monaco at the beginning of the year but has made 33 appearances for the French side.

Valued at a career-high £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the full-back has been labelled as a player that is ‘good at taking set pieces’, and he appears to be of real interest to those at Old Trafford.

Sports Witness relayed an update from Wednesday’s edition of Sport regarding Vanderson and United.

They claim that the Red Devils have ‘already begun to move to try to tie up’ Vanderson’s services, with the 2022/23 campaign thought to be the player’s final year with Monaco.

The Verdict: Busy January?

It looks as if United officials could be in for an extremely busy New Year when it comes to further additions to Erik ten Hag’s squad. The United manager reportedly wants a right-back, midfielder and centre-forward in January.

Contact has been made with the representatives of Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos, while Ten Hag also wants Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans, so Vanderson appears to be the third real target over the coming months.

NUFC backed to sign Maddison in cut-price deal

Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan has backed Newcastle United to agree a deal to sign Leicester City midfielder James Maddison in January.

The Lowdown: Previous bids

The Magpies sought to bring the 25-year-old to St James’ Park this summer as they attempted to add a creative playmaker to Eddie Howe’s squad.

Whilst the first £40m bid was swiftly rejected by Leicester, the Tyneside outfit thought they would have better luck with their £50m offer. However, Brendan Rodgers’ side also rejected this proposal, holding firm on their £60m valuation of the player.

Having signed his latest contract extension with the Foxes in 2020, Maddison has just 21 months remaining on his deal at the King Power Stadium.

The Latest: Whelan’s claim

Whelan, who used to work as a pundit for BBC Radio Leeds, thinks that Leicester are more likely to cash in on Maddison in January, given their dreadful start to the season and the playmaker’s application amid the transfer speculation.

Speaking with Football Insider, the 47-year-old claimed: “I can definitely see it happening now with the start Leicester have had.

“He’s been very mature about it. He’s not kicked up a fuss, and I think Brendan Rodgers will appreciate that. He’s been putting in the performances and the effort – and you can see what a standout he is even if Leicester aren’t winning games.

“I can’t see them climbing too far up the league between now and January. With his contract running down, I think Leicester have got to capitalise on that. They need the money if they’re going to go out and buy players.

“He’d be a brilliant fit at Newcastle, I don’t think they have a player quite like him at the moment. He’s probably the missing piece of the puzzle which would give them the complete midfield.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/newcastle-news-7/” title=”Newcastle news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Brilliant prospective signing

When looking at Maddison’s underlying statistics, it is easy to see why Howe is so keen on bringing him to St James’ Park.

As per FBRef, compared with positional peers across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year, the attacking midfielder ranks in the 94th percentile for non-penalty goals, the 90th percentile for shots taken and the 85th percentile for assists, marking him out as someone who can be highly effective in the final third.

Having been hailed as a ‘superb’ playmaker by broadcaster Arlo White, the 25-year-old would certainly add attacking flair to the Magpies’ midfield, based on the figures above.

Therefore, this would be a brilliant mid-season signing by Newcastle, and it would be a case of good things coming to those who wait.
