Leeds can form deadly duo with Kalimuendo

Leeds United have seen a handful of new players make moves to Elland Road this summer, as Jesse Marsch prepares to take on his first full season at Elland Road.

One player that joined the Whites during the current summer transfer window that could be a particularly exciting addition to March’s squad is Luis Sinisterra.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Signed from Feyenoord on a five-year deal, the winger arrived in LS11 with an impressive attacking record as he racked up 35 goals and 29 assists in 113 appearances for the Dutch club.

With there still being some weeks left before the summer transfer window closes, this could give Marsch and Victor Orta the chance to bring in another new player to the club that could further strengthen Leeds’ attack and potentially create a deadly partnership with Sinisterra.

One figure that the Whites have been linked with that could fit this bill is Paris Saint-Germain striker, Arnaud Kalimuendo.

As a product of PSG’s youth academy, the 20-year-old who Jacek Kulig dubbed “absolutely deadly” has 11 goals in 11 appearances to his name for the club’s U19 side.

Having had two loan spells with RC Lens, the youngster found the net 21 times and provided six assists in 65 appearances, showing that he has what it takes to be a dangerous goalscorer at senior level.

In fact, to further highlight his attacking talent, with 32 Ligue 1 games under his belt with Lens last season, 29 of the 60 shots at goal he had were on target, leaving him with the highest percentage for shots on target (48.3%) out of players at the club to score more that one goal.

Hailed by Frank Haise as having a “beautiful palette” in terms of his abilities, Kalimuendo would certainly be a useful asset for Leeds at the top end of the pitch.

Bearing in mind how Sinisterra has shown how capable he is of not only scoring goals but setting them up for his teammates, having him alongside Kalimuendo could be the exact sort of attacking duo that Marsch needs in his side to make sure they don’t end up in another relegation battle in 2022/23.

With a reported price tag of €25m (£21m), the PSG prodigy should be at the top of Orta’s transfer list so he can give Marsch an extra option in his squad going forward.

Leeds must unleash Aaronson vs Wolves

Leeds United are back in Premier League action today with their first game of the 2022/23 season seeing the Whites take on Wolves at Elland Road.

After ending their pre-season run of fixtures with an exhilarating 6-2 win over Cagliari, the Yorkshire club will undoubtedly be looking to get their new league campaign underway in a similar vein.

Taking into account the number of new signings that Leeds have made during this summer’s transfer window, Jesse Marsch’s starting XI this afternoon could have a rather fresh look to it.

One summer recruit that we feel should be in the team from the beginning to take on Bruno Lage’s side is Brenden Aaronson.

Aaronson must start v Wolves

After scoring 13 goals and providing 15 assists in 66 appearances for Red Bull Salzburg, the American joined Leeds on a five-year deal worth a reported fee of £22.2m.

During the 6-2 win over Cagliari, the 21-year-old provided a trio of assists, one of which saw him play a perfect pinpoint pass from his own half to set up Patrick Bamford as the Englishman fired in Leeds’ third goal of the game.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-much-more” title= “Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and more!”]

To further highlight his attacking talent, with 26 league appearances to his name for Salzburg last season, the 21-year-old – who is currently valued at €33m (£27.8m) according to Football Transfers – had 52 shots at goal in total, leaving only three other players at the Austrian club with more.

Hailed as a “ruthless” player by Jim Curtin, as well as having a “monster mentality” according to another of his former coaches in Matthias Jaissle, Aaronson certainly seems to have what it takes to frighten Wolves and pose problems for the visitors’ defence this afternoon.

Bearing in mind how the Old Gold conceded 36 fewer goals than Leeds last season in the league, having a player like the American could be exactly what the Whites need in order to unlock Wolves’ defence and give them the best possible chance of starting their new campaign with a win in front of their home fans.

With Leeds having the likes of Stuart Dallas and Adam Forshaw out injured, this could allow Marsch to unleash Aaronson and give him his first taste of Premier League action today.

Everton remain interested in Jebbison

Everton have been long-term admirers of Daniel Jebbison, and now a new update has emerged on the club’s pursuit of the player over the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

What’s the latest?

According to Football League World, Everton remain interested in signing Sheffield United striker Jebbison this summer.

As per the report, sources have told the publication that the Toffees are in search of a striker following the injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and feel that now could be the right time to acquire the services of the young forward.

Lampard can land his next DCL

It comes as no surprise that Frank Lampard is looking at signing Jebbison this summer, as he could be considered the second coming of Calvert-Lewin when you consider how many similarities the two possess.

As a former Blade himself, the Toffees striker was brought in at Goodison Park back in 2016 when he was just 19-years-old and has gone on to become one of the most important players at the club over his tenure, using his 6 foot 2 stature to dominate defenders and deliver 76 goal contributions in the process.

Just like Calvert-Lewin was when Everton came knocking, Jebbison is 19 years of age, rising through the ranks starting in Sheffield United’s U18 team, plays as a centre forward and is very nearly the same height as the Toffees striker standing with the pair standing at 1.89m and 1.90m (6ft2) respectively.

Now Lampard can bring the Calvert-Lewin clone to Everton in an attempt to strengthen the forward line whilst the 25-year-old remains on the injury table for the next six weeks, and will surely be hoping that the player won’t also inherit the striker’s injury record too.

The youngster spent last season on loan in League One with Burton Albion and showed glimpses of his talent and abilities in front of goal before being recalled by Sheffield United at the end of January.

Over 20 appearances, Jebbison who was hailed “fantastic” by Micah Richards scored seven goals, delivered one assist and created one big chance. He took 1.1 shots on target per game and was successful in 41% of his dribble attempts, proving to be an all-round threat.

The Everton manager is renowned for his development of young talent with the former Chelsea head coach playing a hand in the breakthroughs of Reece James, Mason Mount, Tariq Lamptey and Marc Guehi, who have all gone on to become first-team standouts at their Premier League clubs.

With that being said, the signing of Jebbison could be a solid addition for Everton as they would be in a great position to sign a like-for-like forward to replace Calvert-Lewin during his injury absences and the young striker could play a huge part in the future at the club.

West Ham ‘definitely’ eyeing Koopmeiners

West Ham United are ‘definitely’ interested in signing Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The lowdown: Hammers linked

Recently, a report from Italian outlet CalcioAtlanta (via Sport Witness) claimed that the Hammers had made an enquiry regarding the availability of Koopmeiners.

However, the Serie A club are believed to view the 24-year-old Netherlands international as ‘almost unsellable’ given his rising importance to the side following a £12.6m switch from AZ Alkmaar last summer.

Now, one well-informed onlooker has shed some further light on the situation, suggesting that although there is a genuine admiration from West Ham, a transfer at this stage seems unlikely…

The latest: ‘Definitely on the radar’

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones – a journalist for Eurosport – has claimed that the nine-cap sensation has multiple suitors and the east Londoners may struggle to get this one over the line.

He said: “I mean, he is definitely on the radar. I just think that it might be a bit too ambitious.

“He’s such a good player, and some of the genuinely top clubs across Europe have been looking at this guy. It’s going to be tough, if I’m totally honest, I just don’t see him joining.”

The verdict: Statement signing

Having missed out on Amadou Onana to Everton earlier in the window, it seems apparent that David Moyes and co are steadfast in their attempts to reinforce the central midfield department at the London Stadium.

Despite already adding Flynn Downes and the returning Conor Coventry to the ranks, the retirement of Mark Noble and the departure of Alex Kral means that the Irons are still depleted when it comes to proven operators at the highest level, with only Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Manuel Lanzini in situ.

Last season, Koopmeiners – who was hailed as ‘world class’ by Twitter account Football Wonderkids in December 2020 – scored four times and provided four assists in 47 appearances across all competitions, playing as a defensive, attacking and conventional midfielder in the process.

That impressive form and versatility would be a welcome addition to Moyes’s options, and although it clearly appears to be an unlikely coup, GSB should be at least attempting to bring the £22.5m-valued Dutchman to east London.

Everton need to sign Che Adams

Everton have been linked with a move for Che Adams over the last few weeks and now a reliable source has made a claim on the club’s potential pursuit of the player in the remaining days and weeks of the transfer window.

What’s the latest?

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, the signing of the Southampton striker would be “good business” for Everton.

Speaking to Football FanCast, O’Rourke claimed:

“I think Che Adams is on the list for a number of Premier League clubs this summer, it does seem Southampton would be willing to let him leave for the right offer as well.

“He’s got good Premier League experience, he can play up front on his own or he can play up front alongside somebody else.

“Everton are in desperate need of striking reinforcements, and if they can get someone like Che Adams for a relatively cheap fee or a loan deal it could be good business.

“They’ll be getting a player with proven Premier League experience who can hit the ground running and that’s what Everton need right now.”

Rare Moshiri masterclass

If Farhad Moshiri can complete the signing of Adams from Southampton it would be a rare masterclass for the club because, as O’Rourke alludes to, he could be signed at a bargain price, something the Toffees owner has seldom found since he arrived at Goodison, spending over £500m on new faces.

Combine a potentially small fee with their dire need for a forward and it’s clear this is a deal that ticks many a box for Frank Lampard’s men this summer.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin currently sidelined with a knee injury and Richarlison leaving the club earlier in the transfer window, it has left them without a goal-scorer they can trust to convert opportunities, and their absence has been strongly felt already in the side.

Everton have failed to tally up a single point and have only found the net via an own goal over their first two Premier League fixtures, so there is no doubt that Lampard will be desperate for a striker to come into the team as soon as possible and Adams could be the perfect fit.

The forward who was signed for £15m by Southampton, has scored 21 goals and delivered 12 assists for the Saints over 111 appearances so far, and is a consistent performer for his national side too, with six goals in 19 appearances.

But it’s not just his goal scoring that would have caught the manager’s eye, as he could offer much more to the Merseysiders than just a stand-in centre-forward over the next six weeks whilst Calvert-Lewin recovers.

Adams is very versatile with his positioning in the front line and can effectively work alongside another centre-forward to deliver goal-scoring opportunities to a strike partner, something we saw work well when he developed a lethal partnership with former Saints striker Danny Ings.

Back in the 2020/2021 season, Adams and Ings made up 48% of Southampton’s goals and were the Premier League’s third most relied-upon attacking partnership.

Therefore, playing Calvert-Lewin and Adams together could be something worth considering for the Toffees boss if the club allows Anthony Gordon to leave this summer amid interest from Chelsea.

With that being said, the signing of Adams could well be a rare masterclass for Moshiri who hasn’t particularly done a great deal right when it comes to the transfer window.

Rangers would "prefer" to keep Barisic

Rangers defender Borna Barisic is facing an uncertain future at Ibrox, amid mounting interest in the impressive full-back.

What’s the word?

Recent reports have seen newly-promoted Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest linked with a move for the 29-year-old this summer, with manager Steve Cooper seemingly keen to add the Croatia international to his wave of new arrivals at the City Ground.

While the 26-cap gem has also been tipped for a move to Turkish champions Trabzonspor of late, the indication is that no bid has yet been made by any party for the 6 foot 1 colossus, with two years still left to run on his existing deal.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has now provided his thoughts on the left-back’s future – in an interview with Football FanCast – with the suggestion being that the Old Firm would be keen to keep him at the club beyond the end of the window.

Asked whether manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be desperate to keep him at the club, the transfer insider stated: “I think so. I think Barisic has been a key player for Rangers over the last couple of seasons. A real top performer as well.

“He started against PSV in that 2-2 draw as well so I’m sure Giovanni van Bronckhorst would want to keep Barisic.”

Key player

As O’Rourke alluded to above, Barisic remains a key figure at the club despite potential uncertainty over his future, having started in the recent 2-2 draw with PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League playoff clash on Tuesday night.

Despite the arrival of fellow left-back Ridvan Yilmaz this summer for a reported fee of around £5m, the more senior man has largely kept his place in the starting XI, featuring from the start in five of the Gers’ six games so far this season.

A crucial figure under both former boss Steven Gerrard and his successor, Van Bronckhorst, the £5.4m-rated titan has now racked up 161 appearances for the Scottish Premiership side since his arrival back in 2018, scoring seven goals and providing an impressive 36 assists in that time.

Previously dubbed “outstanding” by the aforementioned Gerrard, the £18k-per-week brute has caught the eye as both an attacking threat and in a defensive sense, notably averaging 2.1 tackles per game in the league last term – a record better than that of captain and fellow full-back, James Tavernier (1.9).

His average match rating of 7.29 from the 2021/22 campaign, as per SofaScore, was also the fifth-highest among the Rangers squad, further rubberstamping just what a vital asset he really is to the side.

It may be tempting to cash in on a player whose contract expiry is on the horizon, yet it would seemingly be hard to replace a figure who remains a key cog in Van Bronckhorst’s machine.

Rangers expected to hold talks for Raskin

Glasgow Rangers insider The 4th Official has revealed that the Ibrox outfit are expected to ‘negotiate’ over the potential signing of Nicolas Raskin.

The Lowdown: Rising star

Raskin is one of the rising stars of Belgian football, having already made 84 senior appearances for KAA Gent and Standard Liege at the tender age of just 21, scoring four goals and making a further ten assists (Transfermarkt).

Hailed as ‘incredible’ by journalist Stephan Streker, Raskin has also been capped by Belgium right through to U21 level, and will be hoping to catch the eye ahead of a potential call-up to the senior team before the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.

The Latest: Rangers interest

Taking to Twitter, The 4th Official, who was the first to break Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s move to Ibrox back in November 2021, has revealed that the Gers are ‘interested’ in signing Raskin, who is valued at €5.5m (£4.6m) by Liege:

“Rangers interested in Nicolas Raskin with the midfielder rejecting Club Brugge for the Europa League finalists. Standard Liege wants €5.5m but expect Rangers to negotiate.”

The Verdict: Sign him up

A player who can play anywhere in the middle of the park, Raskin would certainly be a welcome addition to van Bronckhorst’s squad.

Aside from playing his trade in Belgium, he also has the experience of playing in European competition, so would also be a useful asset to have in their UEFA Champions League campaign.

Nonetheless, at just 21 years of age, Raskin has the potential to develop into one of the best central midfielders in Europe, and so the Light Blues could be snapping up a bargain at or around £4.6m.

Newcastle: Imagine Brereton Diaz and Isak

Newcastle United are closing in on the end of the summer transfer window and only have until 11pm on Thursday to finish their business.

The club recently moved to smash their transfer record by bringing in Alexander Isak from Spanish outfit Real Sociedad.

Eddie Howe hailed the striker in the club’s announcement of the transfer, saying: “I’m very excited that Alexander has chosen to join us. He is an outstanding talent who is capable of making a big contribution to the team.

“He is technically very good, with a mix of attributes that will complement us, but he is also at a great age to grow with this club.”

The Magpies have bolstered their attack by signing the Sweden international after nobody at the club hit double figures for goals in the 2021/22 campaign. Callum Wilson (eight) was the only Toon attacker with more than five strikes in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Allan Saint-Maximin (five) was the only winger with more than two goals as Miguel Almiron and Ryan Fraser mustered up three between them.

This suggests that the club were in desperate need of reinforcements at the top end of the pitch and Isak, who scored 23 goals across his last two full La Liga seasons, could provide them with a much-needed touch of class in front of goal.

Now, imagine how much better Newcastle’s attack will be this season if they can bring in another potent goalscorer alongside the Swedish gem to improve the squad.

The Magpies have been touted with an interest in Blackburn forward Ben Brereton Diaz, and they must now push to sign the attacker before the transfer window slams shut.

Journalist Alan Nixon has claimed that the Championship club want £15m for the Chile international, and Howe must now push for the Tynesiders to snap him up as the 23-year-old has the potential to be a superb addition to the team.

Jaquob Crooke once labelled him a “superstar” and journalist Josh Bunting recently claimed that the forward’s “confidence is flowing”, with two goals and one assist in his last five matches.

The 23-year-old is a versatile player with a knack for finding the net, and Howe could use him in a variety of roles. Since the start of the 2021/22 campaign, the former Nottingham Forest man has played as a left winger in a 4-3-3 and a 4-2-3-1, and a striker in a 4-3-3 and 3-5-2.

This shows that he can play in a multitude of roles, and the Newcastle head coach would surely love that as it suggests that Brereton Diaz has the tactical knowledge, and quality, to successfully perform in different positions and systems.

In that time, he has racked up 24 goals and four assists in the Championship for Blackburn, whilst also scoring three goals in seven World Cup qualifiers for Chile.

This suggests that he has the potential to be a regular goalscorer for the Magpies if he can make the step up to the Premier League.

At £15m, it is a gamble that Newcastle must take, as they could go from having a dire lack of consistent scorers to watching the Chilean gem and Isak regularly finding the net in the top flight this season if the pair both hit the ground running.

Rangers: Giovanni van Bronckhorst unhappy at one Celtic decision

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst was left unhappy at one decision prior to Celtic’s opener in Saturday’s 4-0 Glasgow Derby defeat, Sky Sports report.

The Lowdown: Derby defeat

Van Bronckhorst made two changes from his side at Celtic Park, with Glen Kamara and Steven Davis coming in for Tom Lawrence and Scott Wright.

However, it was the hosts who ran riot in the first half, with two goals from Liel Abada and one from Jota leaving Van Bronckhorst’s side with a mountain to climb in the second half. Jon McLaughlin’s error in the closing stages resulted in the hosts netting a fourth through David Turnbull.

The Latest: Sky Sports post

Sky Sports provided a live commentary feed from Celtic Park and spotted Van Bronckhorst unhappy and in furious conversation with the fourth official following Abada’s opener.

The Rangers boss appeared to be complaining about the decision to award Celtic a throw-in shortly before the goal. Replays show that Van Bronckhorst was wrong and the officials were in fact right, though, with Sky Sports co-commentator Andy Walker hailing ‘Jota’s quick thinking’  for being ‘key to the goal’.

The Verdict: Afternoon to forget

Just like in February, the result was decided in the first 45 minutes. It was certainly another trip across Glasgow to forget for Rangers, who are now already five points behind their rivals after six games.

On another day, decisions could go in Rangers’ favour, however, it’s fair to say that Ange Postecoglou’s side were the better side, giving Van Bronckhorst food for thought going forward.

Newcastle eye Leeds’ Harrison in January

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) Public Investment Fund (PIF) are reportedly expected to make a Newcastle United move for Jack Harrison in January.

The Lowdown: Two bids made

As per The Northern Echo, Leeds United turned down two separate bids from the St. James’ Park outfit for Harrison in the summer, with their second offer thought to be worth more than £25m.

Eddie Howe was keen to recruit an attacking midfielder in the window, but they failed to do so and could look to address the situation in January.

The Latest: January move expected

Taking to Twitter, Magpies journalist Scott Wilson has shared that Leeds are now ‘hoping to push through’ a new deal for Harrison at Elland Road, but there is an ‘expectation’ that Howe’s team will come back in for him in January:

“Leeds United hoping to push through a new deal for Jack Harrison before the end of the year – amid an expectation that #NUFC will be back in for the midfielder when the transfer window reopens…”

The Verdict: Get it done

If the Whites fail to agree on a new contract for Harrison by the time that January comes, then the Tynesiders should be looking to pounce.

Hailed as the ‘perfect‘ signing for them by former Premier League striker turned pundit Kevin Campbell, the 25-year-old already has one goal and three assists in the top flight so far this season (more key passes per game than any Toon player.

Nonetheless, his extra creativity could be key for the North East club in terms of taking them to the next level, with them currently struggling to break teams down, registering five draws already in the division this campaign.
