Everton fans react to Moise Kean’s brace for Italy U21s

Everton fans are begging that rarely-seen man Moise Kean starts on Saturday against Norwich City.

This comes after the forward netted twice for Italy U21s and registered an incredible 9.0 rating on Tuesday against Armenia U21s.

It is the first time the 19-year-old has hit any sort of form since he moved to Merseyside for £25.1m, as he has yet to score for his new club.

In fact, Kean has averaged just one shot per game and averaged 2.1 unsuccessful touches per game, per Whoscored.

Now, however, after his impressive night with his country, it seems the fans are desperate for him to start.

One supporter said “show Marco this and tell him to start him on Saturday”, whilst other fans have begged him to start as a centre-forward.

As a centre-forward, the Italian bagged seven goals in 14 games, as shown by games recorded by Transfermarkt. Marco Silva, has occasionally deployed him as a winger and not in his preferred position, which naturally has impacted on his form.

It does seem as if Everton fans are all saying the same thing after his Tuesday night performance.

Here’s what some of them have had to say…

Barcelona fans react to transfer report involving two players

The summer transfer window is now long behind us and Barcelona, just like many other top clubs in Europe, were rather busy incorporating new people and shipping off the unwanted faces.

But even though there was a lot of movement in the squad, it seems that the Catalans are not done spending just yet.

At least, that’s what the new report coming from Mundo Deportivo is suggesting.

The Catalan outlet states that Barcelona are scouting both Rodrigo Caio and Everton Soares and could be looking to incorporate them in the not so distant future.

Of course, the winter transfer window is rapidly approaching and the teams are already setting their targets in advance.

But if their recent activity on social media and Twitter is any indication, many Barcelona fans are not really delighted with their club scouting the aforementioned duo.

They seem to think a new coach is more important than getting new players while some other have also bashed the targets altogether.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk’s comments on their lack of goals is concerning

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk has downplayed his team’s lack of goals during his time at the helm so far, which comes as a concern on their long-term ambitions.

What’s he said?

The 40-year-old has been in charge of the Owls since the start of September and has currently guided them to fifth in the Championship table after picking up 15 points from a possible 24.

In that spell, Wednesday have recorded just one defeat, meaning Monk is well on track to surpass his previous incumbents, most notably Carlos Carvalhal, who was the last man to guide the south Yorkshire club to the playoffs.

If the current boss can keep this level of form going, then it could well correlate into their first post-season venture in over two years.

Although that will be hard to achieve if Monk’s attitude towards their struggles in front of goal is genuine – speaking to The Star, he said:

“We’re taking points and we’re doing well.

“You want to be clinical, but I can’t pin that on anyone. We’ve been unlucky I think.

“If we keep performing like that and pushing that standard as we have been doing then we will win games and dominate games.

“We’ve been taking points while we’ve been growing.”

Deflecting the pressure

The Owls manager could well be diverting some of the pressure off his misfiring team, which would be fair and easy to understand.

But his remarks are still somewhat concerning as come May, much of the Hillsborough faithful will not want to be rueing them missing out on an automatic promotion spot or even the playoffs by just a few points, which would have no doubt been helped if they scored more goals.

The 0-0 stalemate with Leeds United is a case in point.

If Wednesday were able to find a way through on Saturday, they would have gained two extra points, which would have them just one point behind league leaders West Brom, who they face in a couple of weeks.

Football FanCast have previously outlined the reliance Monk has on Steven Fletcher for goals, this is something that needs to change, and with January coming up, there are no excuses not to act.

Tottenham boss Pochettino should join Barcelona, according to ESPN pundit

Every now and then pundits get it wrong.

Whether it’s Alan Hansen claiming that you can’t win anything with kids or Paul Merson saying that Yaya Toure is a bad signing for Man City because they already have Gareth Barry and Nigel De Jong – pundits aren’t always right.

Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The above two can be let off as it’s more to do with poor predictions rather than a complete lack of knowledge, but we can’t excuse ESPN for offering such a terrible view on Mauricio Pochettino this week.

Steve Nicol was asked to pick the Tottenham manager’s potential next destination as speculation around his job security at his current club continues.

The former Liverpool man said that the club he would be best suited to is Barcelona.

This prediction just shows that Nicol knows absolutely nothing about the Spurs boss. as he has publicly stated that he would never manage the Catalan club due to his affiliation with Espanyol.

This is just poor punditry from Nicol, and while he makes good points about the rest of the clubs on his list, those are hard to take seriously when he’s ending the segment with a club that the Argentine has explicitly said he will never manage.

Birmingham City’s Cheick Keita must keep working to get his chance with the Blues

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Cheick Keita has been working his way back from an ankle injury and must “get up to speed” before he becomes a regular for Birmingham City, says manager Pep Clotet.

On the chalkboard

The Spaniard told the Birmingham Mail that he sees the French-born player as more of a left-winger than a left-back in the Championship. However, Keita is versatile enough to play in both positions as he showed during his time in Belgium with KAS Eupen. Of those games in which his position was recorded by Transfermarkt, the Mali U20 international played 14 times at left-wing for them, which resulted in him scoring once and providing an assist.

He hasn’t played for the club since they lost to Aston Villa in 2017, but Clotet has told reporters he will be given a chance to prove his abilities to the team.

He added: “Physically he needs to get up to speed and then it will be up to me if I think he can help us.

“I see him more as a winger than as a full back, that is what we work on here, I see him more as a left winger than as a left back for the Championship.”

Keita has not played in a game since Septemeber 9, where he and the U23s lost to their Bristol City counterparts. In that game, the winger hobbled off the pitch following a nasty challenge which has made him wait even longer for a return.

Not quite done enough yet

In terms of playing as a left-back for the Blues, it would be a tough task to keep Kristian Pedersen out of the side because of his form this season. The Dane has played every minute so far, pitching in with a goal and averaging an impressive rating of 7.22.

As a winger, Keita has scored just that one goal and assist in Belgium and has actually played 66 more times as a left-back, of those matches where his position was recorded by Transfermarkt, which has resulted in him bagging two goals and four assists.

There is also the realisation that if Clotet wants to play the 23-year-old as a winger, it may result in a formation change. As demonstrated by Sky Sports, the Blues have often set up in a 4-4-2, with left-sided midfielders, as opposed to wingers in a 4-3-3. Whilst Keita would still be able to adapt to this role, as he played there 11 times in his career, it may alter the team too much just for one man.

Quite frankly, his loan spells were not particularly impressive and considering he has not played for the first-team for two years, drafting him in so soon may be a mistake. Keita should continue working with the U23s and settle for some substitute appearances for the time being.

Leeds’ lack of depth came back to bite Marcelo Bielsa last weekend

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

By the time April had come around last season, Leeds had suffered 31 various injury and fitness issues to their playing staff.

Their problems in that regard was one of the biggest worries they were facing heading into the new campaign but so far this term, Marcelo Bielsa has found a way to adapt and work his way around the small squad he possesses.

Leeds have used just 17 players in the Championship this season, the fewest of any side in the division. It’s a number that doesn’t even make up a full matchday squad.

It isn’t a damning statistic but as things caught up on the Whites towards the back end of 2018/19, winning just one of their last six games, their lack of depth could catch them cold once again.

Bielsa’s side had a wonderful opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table last weekend.

They were cruising at one point versus Derby and should have been out of sight. They had over 60% of the play, hit the post and missed a penalty. How they didn’t win is difficult to work out.

Chris Martin managed to steal in as the game reached its final stages, leaving Leeds to stare at a record which sees them with one win from their five home matches in 2019/20.

There are various reasons for why that’s the case but a lack of depth and game-changing options on the bench hurt them against the Rams.

At 1-0 up, Pablo Hernandez was withdrawn in place of Barry Douglas. Customary substitutes Helder Costa and Eddie Nketiah were used but with the Spaniard heading off the pitch, there was a sudden lack of quality and ability to push for a second.

Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Tyler Roberts was ignored, which was possibly understandable considering he’s only just coming back from injury, but with Jack Clarke not in the squad and Mateusz Bogusz missing, they lacked viable options.

Squad depth was a common issue when injuries wreaked havoc with Leeds last term but they somehow found a way to negotiate themselves through choppy waters.

It would be a big ask to do the same this season and their inability to deal with minimal options on Saturday cost them.

Rather strangely, Bielsa had Gaetano Berardi, Robbie Gotts and Douglas at his disposal.

Three defenders on the bench is particularly strange and when they needed to go in for the kill late in the game, their lack of another fit attacker cost them.

Southampton’s predicted XI for the game against Manchester United

[ad_pod ]

After suffering two losses in their first two games against Burnley and Liverpool, Southampton have started to get into their groove with back-to-back wins against Brighton in the league and Fulham in the Carabao Cup.

In those two wins, Ralph Hasenhuttl switched back to a four-man defence having opted for a 3-5-2 system in the first two league outings – the switch is certainly having the desired effect so far.

However, Manchester United may pose a bigger challenge at St Mary’s this weekend, whilst the former RB Leipzig boss has some injury concerns to deal with.

Let’s take a look at the XI that we think Hasenhuttl should put out against the Red Devils…

Hasenhuttl may be without three players when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side come to visit St Mary’s this Saturday.

The midweek Carabao Cup win at Craven Cottage saw Nathan Redmond, Moussa Djenepo and Michael Obafemi pick up injuries, meaning that the trio are likely to miss this weekend’s game as Hasenhuttl himself admitted.

In their place, we think the Austrian should hand Shane Long a first league start of the season due to the Irishman’s work rate off the ball, which will be important with United expected to have the bulk of the possession.

Behind him, Sofiane Boufal – who has enjoyed a mini-resurgence of late – may also be handed a first league start of the campaign next to Stuart Armstrong, who scored against United at St Mary’s last term – the former Celtic man is also yet to start a league game this term.

At the back, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg impressed at left-back against Fulham with Hasenhuttl praising the Dane for his performance, so we think he will continue in the position with 20-year-old centre-back Kevin Danso returning to a more natural position after playing at left-back against Brighton.

There is enough defensive solidity in this side to make life hard for United in attack, whilst there is also some inventiveness up top with Boufal’s creativity and Long’s industry to pose Harry Maguire and co. some problems.
