West Bromwich Albion are set to be without one of their senior players for the next couple of months through injury, and an expert has detailed exactly when he believes he’ll be able to stage his comeback.
What's the latest injury news at West Brom?
With Daryl Dike having been out of action since last season with an achilles injury and not expected to return until at least December, Carlos Corberan’s latest blow came in the form of Josh Maja, who has torn some of his ankle ligaments, with the club anticipating that he will be back following the international break in November.
The Baggies boss, however, has been handed a boost over Erik Pieters, who is likely to be available for selection for Saturday’s game vs Preston after being forced off the pitch with muscle tightness during the latest 0-0 Championship draw against Millwall.
Another player currently on the sidelines is Adam Reach, who limped off the field during the 2-2 draw with Burton Albion in pre-season, and having sustained a quad injury, has recently undergone surgery to try and help rectify the problem as quickly as possible.
Despite this, the midfielder still won’t be able to get involved with the action again for a while, with a medical expert having shared the realistic timeframe that the 30-year-old could aim for as a return date.
How long is Adam Reach out for?
Speaking to West Brom News, injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar confirmed that Reach may noy be ready to join in with the first-team until December, whilst noting November as the month that he could start to build up his fitness at the training ground.
“His injury is a recurrence of a quadriceps injury that first occurred in April. It sounds like his return timeline is targeted for somewhere in December so mid to late November for light training could be a reasonable goal. Considering he had surgery recently, he’s likely taking it quite easy for the next coming days.“
West Bromwich Albion midfielder Adam Reach.
How good is Adam Reach?
Whilst Reach was previously dubbed a “top-class pro” by West Brom’s former manager Steve Bruce for the professional manner that he carries himself in, he is yet to make a single appearance this season, albeit that’s not his fault, and it’s unlikely he would be able to stake his claim in the starting squad under Corberan upon his return.
England’s former youth international, who is naturally left-footed, only ranked as the club’s 24th overall best-performing player out of 31 squad members last season, via WhoScored, showing how little of an impact he was able to make when handed the opportunity to play, failing to prove to the boss what he's capable of.
Furthermore, Reach currently pockets £40k-per-week which makes him the highest earner at the Hawthorns, as per Capology, therefore, Midlands chiefs should get him off their books next year, especially with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, and use the spare cash to generate funds for new signings in the future.
The second-wicket pair added 161 to propel Scotland to 322 for 6, their fourth-highest ODI total, which ended up proving well beyond UAE’s reach
The Report by Liam Brickhill in Bulawayo15-Mar-2018Getty Images
Scotland continued their unbeaten run in the World Cup qualifiers with a 75-run win over UAE in their Super Six match at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. Opting to bat first, Scotland racked up an imposing 322 for 6, their fourth-highest total in ODIs, with Matthew Cross contributing a career-best 114. Cross’ effort was backed up by 78 from Calum MacLeod, with whom he shared a 161-run stand for the second wicket. Scotland then bowled UAE out for 249 in the 48th over, with seamer Chris Sole taking 4 for 68.It was Cross’ opening partner, Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer, who led the early charge for Scotland, as he has done more often than not in this competition. He took 16 runs off medium-pacer Zahoor Khan’s second over, and he had raced into the 40s at better than a run a ball when he chipped a simple return catch to Imran Haider in the legspinner’s first over. That wicket snapped the opening stand at 68, but there was no relief for UAE as it only brought Cross and MacLeod together. Initially, the pair focussed on risk-free batting and subsisted almost entirely on singles pushed in the ‘V’ down the ground. UAE captain Rohan Mustafa cycled through four spinners as he spread the field, and although that allowed UAE some measure of containment, it also meant that a single to turn the strike over was never far away.No boundaries were hit between the 11th and the 29th over, but the quick start and the availability of singles meant Scotland were still able to tick along at four an over. After Cross reached an 89-ball fifty, MacLeod broke free of the spin stranglehold with three fours in an over from Haider.Taking his cue, Cross also began to accelerate. Shaiman Anwar’s part-time legspin was dispatched over wide long-on, and Cross added a second six off Zahoor, slugging the bowler straight back over his head. Cross’s third six came from a slog sweep, the ball landing in the trees beyond midwicket, while MacLeod too passed fifty, the pair taking 19 runs from Haider’s last over to ruin his figures.UAE finally had some relief when MacLeod, looking to scoop the ball up and over fine leg, moved too far across and had his stumps rearranged by Zahoor. But the respite was not to last long. Cross reached a 125-ball hundred in the 42nd over – his second in ODIs, and his second against UAE after his maiden ODI ton against them in January. After he was gone, just failing to get his bat down on time as Mustafa fired in a quick arm-ball, George Munsey cracked four fours and one towering six over square leg in a 14-ball 30. Richie Berrington, who became the most capped player in Scottish cricket history, contributed a quickfire unbeaten 37 that included a six that landed on the roof of the stands beyond midwicket to boost the score beyond 300.UAE’s record chase in ODIs is 300, scored against Scotland in January, and their openers set about the chase as if they were determined to set a new landmark. Mustafa and Ashfaq Ahmed were particularly severe on anything short. Ashfaq rushed into the 20s with a pull for six that went in front of square, while Mustafa took 16 runs from Chris Sole’s first over, including a remarkable swipe at a short ball that flew high and straight back over the bowler’s head for six.But Sole, playing his first match of the tournament after missing the group stage with a hamstring injury, soon had his revenge as Mustafa picked out Michael Leask at long-off with one big shot too many. For UAE, 62 for 0 quickly became 64 for 3, and where the short ball had brought runs, it now brought wickets. Ashfaq pulled Sole tamely to Craig Wallace at square leg while Chirag Suri, rushed for pace, gloved a short one to be caught behind for a duck. Before their chase had reached the 20-over mark, six of UAE’s batsmen had been dismissed, and the match seemed a foregone conclusion.Mohammad Usman and Ahmed Raza at least ensured that they went down fighting, with Usman particularly confident on the attack. Both players reached career-best scores, Usman registering his second ODI fifty and moving on to 80 before he toe-ended an attempted paddle scoop off Sole to give him his fourth wicket. Raza then reached a maiden ODI fifty of his own, but was trapped lbw by Brad Wheal immediately afterwards, and UAE quickly folded.”Very pleased for the guys, and very pleased for everyone back home who has contributed to get us to where we are at the moment,” said Scotland captain Coetzer. “We’ve enjoyed this performance, as we have every one thus far.”Still not quite that full performance we’re looking for, but we’re getting there. The batting was hugely exciting today.”The win means Scotland now top the Super Six tables with five points. Their next match is against Ireland on Sunday at Harare Sports Club.
Ireland 226 for 6 (Joyce 116*, Wilson 53, Naveed 2-45) beat UAE 222 for 9 (Shahzad 75, Rankin 2-26) by four wickets ScorecardGetty Images
Ed Joyce passed 10000 List A runs en route to his sixth ODI century as Ireland enjoyed a winning start to the ODI tri-series in the UAE. Joyce struck 13 fours and a six in his unbeaten 116 off 149 balls, helping his side secure a chase of 223 from 91 for 5.He combined with Gary Wilson, who made 53 off 83 balls, to add 131 for the sixth wicket and tilt the game in Ireland’s favour. Left-arm spinner Ahmed Raza dismissed Wilson with Ireland one run away from the target, but Joyce wrapped up the win with four wickets and four balls to spare.”I didn’t know about the 10,000 List A runs,” Joyce told the Cricket Ireland website. “But yeah it feels pretty good. I loved getting the hundred, I felt in great nick going into the game and physically good.”Captain William Porterfield (28) made the only other substantial contribution in the chase. Seamer Mohammad Naveed did the damage upfront with the ball, removing Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie for ducks. The O’Brien brothers all fell cheaply, but UAE could not find a way past Joyce.Earlier, the Ireland bowlers had produced a collective performance to limit UAE to 222 for 9. The seamers – Boyd Rankin, Barry McCarthy, Peter Chase and Kevin O’Brien claimed two wickets each – while left-arm spinner Dockrell picked up one. Rameez Shahzad top-scored for the hosts with 75 off 111 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. Debutants Ashfaq Ahmed and Mohammad Boota were the only other UAE batsmen to pass 30.
Liverpool have been left frustrated for the majority of the summer transfer window, with their struggle to land a defensive midfielder no secret, before they finally settled on Wataru Endo.
The departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho almost seemed to cancel out the boost that the arrival of Alexis Mac Allster and Dominik Szoboszlai gave Jurgen Klopp.
Now, another one of the German's stars has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia, which could reportedly see the Reds realise one of Juventus' fears this summer.
What's the latest Liverpool transfer news?
As the summer transfer window edges closer and closer to slamming shut, Liverpool could yet have themselves a busy few days, with Klopp looking to build a squad capable of competing on all fronts once again.
The arrival of Endo at least put an end to the Reds' crisis in defensive midfield, but after losing both Fabinho and Henderson earlier in the window, it could be argued that the Premier League giants still need one more reinforcement in the middle of the park.
Meanwhile, those at Anfield have been left on high alert following Al-Ittihad's reported interest in Mohamed Salah, whose exit would deal a significant blow to Liverpool's top four chances so late in the window.
As things stand, the Egyptian looks unlikely to leave the club this summer, with Klopp saying in his recent press conference, via ESPN: "There's nothing to talk about from our point of view, Mo Salah is a Liverpool player. If there would be something (a bid) the answer would be no."
Nonetheless, in the case of Salah's exit, according to Calciomercato, via Sport Witness, Federico Chiesa is on Liverpool's list of potential replacements, who Juventus reportedly value at €60m (£51m).
The Serie A giants reportedly want to keep the winger, and now they fear that a good offer from the Reds – as a result of the Salah rumours – will result in his exit.
If Liverpool do lose Salah this summer, it would undoubtedly leave a gaping hole in their squad which not many players in Europe would be able to fill. Chiesa is among those who could, at the very least, attempt to fill the golden boots of the Egyptian… if he can stay fit.
As things stand, of course, it's very much a situation of break glass in case of emergency, but at his best, the Italian has the potential to play a starring role for most, if not all, of Europe's elite.
Statistically speaking, Chiesa even has some similarities to Salah, too. As per FBref, Salah made just 0.49 more progressive passes per 90 compared to Chiesa last season, who also made more progressive carries than the Egyptian.
Of course, Salah was involved in more goals, but the Juventus star would give Liverpool a different kind of approach from the wing, it seems.

At his best, Chiesa has earned plenty of praise, too, including from Rio Ferdinand, who said, via The Metro: "He’s just a fantastic footballer. The intensity with which he plays with, we saw in the Euros he was the main goal threat for the Italians who went on to win the tournament.
"It’s his pace, his drive. He’s the one who is the threat, he’s potent, he wants to run in behind. He’s that modern day striker who can play anywhere across the front line and he’s as comfortable out wide as he is through the middle. He unnerves defenders with that pace, he’s so direct."
Rangpur Riders eventually won the match with two balls to spare, with the captain Mashrafe Mortaza hitting a six in the final over
Mohammad Isam28-Nov-2017Sylhet Sixers have lodged an official complaint with the BPL’s governing council after Kamrul Islam Rabbi had to bowl a seventh delivery in the 16th over during Rangpur Riders’ chase of 174 in Chittagong on Tuesday. Rangpur went on to complete a four-wicket win with two balls to spare in a tight contest. After Rabbi had bowled the sixth ball, he went to take the cap from umpire Mahfuzur Rahman, who checked with third umpire Gazi Sohel, who in turn informed Mahfuzur that there was still one ball remaining in the over. It was an error from the umpires; Bopara took a single off that extra delivery and retained the strike. At the end of the game, Nasir was seen talking to the umpires and ESPNcricinfo understands that a BCB official also offered an explanation to the Sylhet officials. Nevertheless, a complaint about the error was lodged. The defeat, their sixth in the competition, puts Sylhet’s progress to the knockout stage in serious doubt, while Rangpur strengthened their position with their fifth win.
Tottenham Hotspur are "set to cut their losses" on Tanguy Ndombele and it looks like he's "heading to Galatasaray", according to journalist Darren Lewis.
Who will leave Spurs?
Barring the obvious one repeatedly linked with a Spurs exit, namely star striker Harry Kane, there are a fair few others who could depart with the Englishman.
The Lilywhites, after sealing three major signings in goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, midfielder James Maddison and winger Manor Solomon, may have to balance the books as we enter the final phase of this transfer window.
Spurs are also rumoured to be closing in on deals for both Wolfsburg's Micky van de Ven and Blackburn Rovers starlet Ashley Phillips, making the need to offload fringe squad members even greater.
Ivan Perisic, Davinson Sanchez, Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are just some of the players mentioned (The Telegraph), alongside goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who has even admitted this window could mark the "end of an era".
“We have reached an important moment, whether it be for the club or me,” said Lloris to Nice-Matin.
“It’s the end of an era. I have a desire for something else. I will carefully study what is possible. However, I haven’t forgotten that I have a year left on my contract at Tottenham, and in football, it’s always hard to predict what will happen."

Ndombele, who has spent the last one and a half seasons various loan spells at Lyon and Napoli, looked set to be handed a chance by Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou – who praised the 26-year-old for his application in pre-season training.
"Tanguy has been good," said Postecoglou ahead of Tottenham's pre-season tour.
"He's been working hard in training, as they all have because they've got no choice.
"I take things as I see them. He was part of a Serie A-winning side last season, and he's been working well. Within that context, I'm pleased to have him here and part of the group. What that means for the long-term, we'll see."
However, reports in the last week have indicated that chance may have come and gone, with reporter Lewis echoing that in a piece for The Daily Mirror.
He says that Tottenham are "set to cut their losses" on Ndombele this summer and he is "heading to Galatasaray".
The Turkish Super Lig side are aiming for an £11 million deal, and due to Maddison's arrival, Postecoglou will have that consistent creativity in midfield – making the need for Ndombele absent.
What's been said about Tanguy Ndombele?
The Frenchman simply hasn't displayed his raw quality on a regular enough basis over his four-year Tottenham stay, so now could be time to call it a day.
Ndombele has previously been praised for his undoubted talent, with Arsenal star Declan Rice even claiming last summer that the midfielder is one of the toughest opponents he's ever faced.
"I tell you now, he is one of the toughest I have played against," explained Rice.
“He is top. Just a street footballer on the pitch. He takes the ball anywhere, little flicks and tricks. Like he doesn’t care. He does everything so confidently.
“With players like that, you just have to let them play. Give them the freedom to go out and do whatever they want. When we played against Lyon in the Europa League, he was incredible. He’s a top player.”
