Everton eyeing up move to sign former-Liverpool star who's been "fantastic"

Everton have now reportedly set their sights on a former Liverpool midfielder who has starred ever since completing a move away from Anfield.

Moyes "thrilled" with scrappy Bournemouth win

After being shoved to one side by Newcastle United last weekend, Everton entered Bournemouth in need of a reaction and David Moyes got exactly that. By his own admission, it wasn’t his side’s prettiest affair, but they did get the job done courtesy of Jack Grealish’s second goal of the season.

Moyes shared his delight with reporters at full-time, saying: “It was a tough performance. It maybe wasn’t our tidiest or the cleanest we’ve had, but I thought we were the better team in the game.

“But could we score a goal, or could they score a goal? I think whoever got the goal first then, it would have probably gone that way. Having said that, after getting the goal, we had a couple of other chances to get a second one.

“But, look, I’m thrilled. Bournemouth is not a place where Everton have had a great record. So for us to go away, two away wins in the road on the bounce at the moment is really good.”

The performances haven’t always been there for Everton this season, but they’ve still managed to get over the line more than once to set up a strong foundation for the rest of the campaign.

It would be a major boost if they managed to secure a top-half finish in their first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and it would no doubt leave them well-placed to welcome reinforcements such as Tyler Morton. The former Liverpool gem could be on his way back to the Premier League and the Toffees may yet pull off a shock move.

Everton keeping tabs on Tyler Morton

As reported by TeamTalk, Everton are now keeping close tabs on Morton following his rise to stardom at Lyon this season. Since swapping the Anfield reserves for first-team football in France, the midfielder has looked likely to become one of Liverpool’s biggest regrets.

Dubbed a “fantastic footballer” by journalist Bence Bocsak back in September, Morton could come back to haunt Liverpool courtesy of one of their biggest rivals.

For Everton, signing the 23-year-old would hand them a direct replacement for James Garner, who is on course to leave the Toffees as a free agent when his contract expires next summer.

In terms of profile, the young midfielder has showcased his ability to control games with his passing range over in France and could finally hand Moyes the control that he needs to take Everton to that next level. For the right price, the Toffees could get one over on their rivals and land a rising star.

Johnson upgrade: Spurs line up club-record move to sign “generational” star

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to attack the January transfer window, and if Thomas Frank gets it right, he might just land a new forward who could turn his debut season at the helm into a successful one.

However, while incomings are anticipated down N17, Spurs are also expected to push one or two of Frank’s first-team players to the exit, with Yves Bissouma, who has not played at all this season after being dropped in August, expected to leave after being filmed inhaling nitrous oxide, again.

However, for less transgressive reasons, Brennan Johnson could also be on his way out, having fallen down the pecking order after poor form.

Spurs consider swapping Brennan Johnson out

Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo is the talk of the town, but ENIC Group are also keeping an eye on another high-performing winger in Europe.

The versatile Cherries forward has been in fine fettle in the Premier League this season, scoring six goals and supplying three assists for Andoni Iraola’s side.

He is far more consistent than Johnson, who bagged 17 in all competitions last season – including the winner against Manchester United in the Europa League final – but has regressed under Frank’s wing.

Crystal Palace are interested in signing the Wales international on loan this winter, and that could free up room for a Semenyo alternative who is turning the heads of some of the Premier League’s top clubs.

Indeed, according to Sky Germany, RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is on Tottenham’s shortlist ahead of the New Year, albeit with top-flight rivals Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City also in the mix.

The 19-year-old joined the Bundesliga club this year and has quickly established prolific form, combining that sharpness with frightening physical faculties.

Leipzig know they have a gem on their hands and have priced him at a jaw-dropping €100m (about £87m). This would make him the most expensive player in the Londoners’ history.

Why Spurs should sign Yan Diomande

Diomande moved to Germany after cutting his teeth with Leganes in Spain, and he has wasted no time in establishing himself as one of the brightest young wide forwards in the game, having scored seven goals and four assists across 16 outings this season.

That includes a recent hat-trick over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, and it’s his natural sharpness in the danger area that has led journalist Bence Bocsak to hail him as a “generational talent”.

Diomande is not just more talented than Johnson: he ruthlessly outstrips him across a vast range of metrics, and his developing goalscoring may soon see him overtake the 24-year-old’s standout quality.

When you look at how Diomande ranks up against someone like Johnson, it perhaps becomes clear why there is such a vested interest being focused, with the Welshman simply not offering enough in the build-up and when against the run of play, that and the desertion of his potency in front of goal.

There’s no question that Johnson has a natural ability to work his way into promising positions and chalk his name onto the scoresheet, but his overall play has hardly been good enough this season. For example, he’s not dribbling enough – look at his efforts in comparison to Diomande’s – and he’s only succeeding with 33% of his infrequent efforts.

Diomande, for sure, is one of the most exciting dribblers in Europe. He is fleet-footed and instinctive with his output when carrying the ball forward. He has been hailed by talent scout Jacek Kulig for “having a sensational debut season” in Germany.

Tottenham need to get this one done. If they are serious about becoming major, consistent players both domestically and abroad, this is the kind of statement signing needed, not just boosting output but reshaping the general threat of the team.

Browns Reportedly Eying Former Chiefs QB As Russell Wilson Backup Plan

As the NFL quarterback carousel continues to spin this free agency, the Cleveland Browns are mulling over their best options to fill the position for the upcoming season.

All options seem to be at play at the moment. Deshaun Watson and Kenny Pickett currently make up Cleveland's quarterback room, with Pickett reportedly getting a chance to compete for the starting job this offseason.

The Browns could select a young signal-caller with the No. 2 pick in the NFL draft and are also rumored to be pursuing a veteran bridge option like Joe Flacco or Kirk Cousins, per Albert Breer.

The team has most frequently been linked to Pittsburgh Steelers' Russell Wilson, who had a visit with the Browns last week. Should that plan fall through, Cleveland could pursue former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Carson Wentz, Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot wrote Wednesday.

The Browns and Wentz "definitely have mutual interest," per Cabot's sources, but the signing would be "contingent upon" what Wilson decides to do.

Cabot notes that the Browns are carrying a $37 million cap hit for Watson, which means the team likely won't be able to spend much on a veteran quarterback. Wentz would arguably fit the bill as a budget-friendly option in the potential price range of $4 million to $6 million a year.

Wentz, 32, is several years removed from his Pro Bowl days on the Philadelphia Eagles and has played for as many as five teams since getting drafted in 2016. The journeyman quarterback has only tallied nine starts in the last three years and spent last season as Patrick Mahomes's backup on the Chiefs.

Morre Rubens Minelli, técnico revolucionário do futebol brasileiro

Alex Davies seals Bears' first win of the season

Victory condemns depleted Yorkshire to their third successive defeat in the competition

ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay06-Jun-2025Warwickshire Bears condemned Yorkshire to a third successive Vitality Blast defeat as they handed them a six-wicket beating at Edgbaston. The Bears registered their first win of the campaign after Yorkshire, put in, totalled 164 for 7, having lurched from 139 for 2 to 146 for 7 in 17 balls. Dawid Malan (69 not out, 48 balls) and James Wharton (39, 23) set a solid foundation, but the middle and lower orders were scalped by the spinners as Danny Briggs, Jake Lintott and Moeen Ali each took two wickets.Alex Davies (65) and Tom Latham (44) then added 103 for the first wicket and though Matt Milnes (3 for 23) induced a wobble, the Bears reached 168 for 4 with six balls to spare,A heavily depleted Yorkshire team, without Jonny Bairstow (calf strain), Will Sutherland (broken toe) and George Hill (Lions duty), was given a lively start by Will Luxton who hoisted Dan Mousley for six but was bowled trying to do the same to Briggs.Adam Lyth swung Moeen’s third ball to deep mid-wicket but Malan and Wharton quietened the crowd by clearing the ropes five times in a stand of 74 in 43 balls. Malan posted a 32-ball half-century and Yorkshire were motoring nicely but then hit a big pothole (almost as big as some of those on the A435 south of Birmingham) as three wickets fell for one run in eight balls.Lintott had Wharton caught at long on and Matt Revis caught behind sweeping at what would have been a wide. When Dom Bess clipped Moeen to mid-wicket, his and Revis’ ducks had occupied an entire over for no runs. The collapse continued as Briggs ousted Harry Duke lbw and Matt Milnes embarked upon a single in which Malan was not interested and left Hasan Ali with a simple run out in his follow through. Malan, starved of the strike as the clatter unfollowed, scored just eight runs in the last five overs and walked off two runs short of 10,000 in T20 cricketBears openers Latham and Davies took a measured approach to the small target and put 50 on the board in 35 balls and 100 in 65. Revis’ unproductive day continued when he came on for the eighth over and Davies swung his first and third balls for six.The pair set a new record T20 opening stand for the Bears against Yorkshire, surpassing the 55 by Ed Pollock and Ian Bell at Edgbaston in 2018, before Latham heaved Bess to deep mid-wicket. Mousley, back in the Bears’ Blast team for the first time this season, and Davies fell in the same Milnes over to leave two new batters to find 37 from 35 balls. Those new batters were Moeen Ali and Sam Hain, who arrived at the crease with 11,854 career T20 runs between them. Yorkshire were still in the game when Moeen holed out to Milnes with 18 needed from two overs but Hain (24 not out) smote two fours and a six in the first of those overs to see his side home.

'There was interest from Man Utd' – Brighton chief opens up on Carles Baleba saga and reveals why Red Devils missed out on £100m transfer

Brighton chief admitted there was interest from Manchester United for Carles Baleba and revealed why the Red Devils missed out on the £100m transfer. United boss Ruben Amorim had made the Cameroon powerhouse his No.1 midfield target as the Red Devils scrambled for reinforcements before the September 1 deadline. But Brighton refused to budge, slamming the door shut on a potential £100m mega deal that could have filled their coffers.

Amorim’s top target blocked cold

Amorim, keen to inject fresh energy into his side’s faltering midfield, saw Baleba as the ideal player to anchor United’s rebuild. Yet, the Seagulls’ hierarchy was steadfast and made it crystal clear that the 21-year-old was going nowhere. Now, in an interview with , Brighton chairman Tony Bloom pulled back the curtain on the transfer saga and didn’t hold back on why United’s efforts failed.

“I don’t think Baleba was a saga," he said. “There was interest from Manchester United, and we said that he wasn't available this summer and they went away. So we've had many bigger sagas in the past. But Carlos Baleba, his improvement has been immense. Massively important player to this football club, and just delighted that he's with us for this season.”

Bloom admitted the club constantly prepares for life after its best players, but for now, Baleba’s exit isn’t on the agenda.

"We always try and make sure that the players coming in, maybe players we've brought in previous seasons, can help with that situation," he said.

“But that's true of almost every club. The best players, unless you're potentially Man City, Liverpool, Madrid, PSG, almost every club's best players do get sold. And it's up to us to make sure that we are prepared as much as we can. We can't always get the timing right, but we are as prepared as much as we can be to make sure that, at the start of every season, we have a really, really competitive squad.”

AdvertisementUnited refuse to give up the chase

Despite being rebuffed, United aren’t ready to throw in the towel. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports that the Red Devils will keep Baleba high on their shortlist heading into 2026 hoping patience might pay off in the long run. However, it won’t come cheap. Sources close to Brighton suggest it would take an eye-watering bid of around £115 million, matching the record-breaking sum Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo in 2023, to tempt the Seagulls into doing business.

Getty Images SportEyes on Adam Wharton: United’s plan B

With Baleba off-limits, Amorim and his recruitment team have turned their attention to Crystal Palace sensation Adam Wharton. The 21-year-old playmaker has taken the Premier League by storm since his move from Blackburn in 2024. His smooth passing and fearless ball-carrying have earned rave reviews and drawn interest from Liverpool, Manchester City, and even Real Madrid. But United want to move first. Determined not to repeat the Baleba disappointment, Amorim is reportedly pushing for Wharton to be signed as early as January, hoping to stabilise his underperforming midfield before the season spirals further.

United’s midfield has been the source of endless frustration this season. Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, once seen as a world-class duo, have struggled badly to control games, prompting fierce criticism from fans and pundits alike. Casemiro’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and the Brazilian is expected to be moved on. Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo, the academy graduate once tipped for stardom, is rumoured to be eyeing a January exit to secure regular minutes and keep his slim England 2026 World Cup hopes alive. It’s a midfield in flux, and Amorim’s plans to reshape it have hit a frustrating dead end.

Getty Images SportShowdown at Anfield: Amorim’s make-or-break moment

The Red Devils currently sit 10th in the Premier League, a far cry from the title-challenging form their supporters once demanded. After a dreadful September that saw United slump as low as 14th, the pressure on Amorim has reached boiling point. But a resounding win over Sunderland before the international break has temporarily eased tensions. Next up, United face Liverpool in what could be a defining clash for Amorim’s tenure. The reigning champions have suffered three straight defeats, setting the stage for a potential upset, and perhaps the perfect opportunity for United to make a statement. For Amorim, it’s simple: beat Liverpool and reignite the fire, or lose and face another storm of criticism.

'As it is we are seeing such big sixes' – Mohit Sharma backs bat checks

Rayudu: Bat checks done on the field can affect batters’ focus

The two matches in IPL 2025 on Sunday, saw the on-field umpires checking the dimensions of the bats of batters who came in to bat. It is a practice usually done in the dressing room, but in both the matches, it played out on the field before the batters took guard. Umpires Nitin Menon and Saidharshan Kumar measured bats of Shimron Hetmyer, Phil Salt, Riyan Parag and Nitish Rana among others in Jaipur, while Chris Gaffaney and Vinod Seshan did the same to Hardik Pandya’s bat in Delhi. All the bats went through the gauge through which they must pass, and were deemed acceptable. Rana said that the batters did not have an issue with it if the umpires want to “check it for their satisfaction.”Related

“There is shortage of time in T20s, and if the umpires have the time to check the bat, I guess it is their right to do so – even my bat was checked,” he said on the eve of RR’s game against Delhi Capitals in Delhi. “In that game, bats of 60-70% batsmen was checked.
