Aarons and Godfrey respond to Bogle’s summer Instagram snap

[ad_pod ]

It’s been a long season for Derby County and even though the last step was not as successful as they would’ve liked, Frank Lampard can be happy with what he has achieved there.

Jayden Bogle was a big part of it, playing a total of 40 games throughout the campaign, even scoring twice and assisting nine goals in the process.

Now, however, Bogle is enjoying his long-awaited holiday at the seaside and his latest Instagram snap has him riding a jet ski, which was, of course, soon enough noticed by some of his fellow rivals and friends.

Max Aarons and Ben Godfrey, both Norwich players and Bogle’s direct rivals, were first to commend the 18-year-old for a rather cool snap and both were there to show support with a series of emojis directed at Derby’s star.

Bogle will be looking to replicate and even improve on the results of last year and if Lampard does end up staying, which is definitely uncertain at the moment, they can always dream of a potential step up.

Transfer Focus: Liam Kelly would be solid competition for Scott Bain at Celtic

[ad_pod ]

Goalkeeper Liam Kelly has triggered a transfer release clause in his contract at Livingston, with Celtic said to be admirers of the player, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

What’s the story?

Kelly has had a stand-out season in the Scottish Premiership and The Scottish Sun report the West Lothian side were keen to hold onto him for another year.

However, the shot-stopper has other ambitions and will now be leaving the club this summer.

C’mon the Hoops throwback to one of the greatest Celtic goalkeepers of all time in the video below…

The paper reckon that Celtic, as well as a number of English Championship sides, are interested in signing him so it seems he’ll have plenty of options ahead of the new season.

Would Celtic be a good move for him?

Chances of regular first-team action at Celtic seem slim right now for any goalkeeper that isn’t Scott Bain but Kelly would have a realistic shot of becoming the number two goalkeeper at Celtic Park.

Dorus De Vries’ contract is up this summer, while Craig Gordon has been struggling with injury problems over the last few months and at 36 years old is getting on a bit, even for a ‘keeper.

The Hoops arguably need a young, hungry player in the position to truly test Bain and Kelly could be that man.

He helped Livingston keep an impressive 17 clean sheets last season as the club surprised everyone and comfortably avoided relegation to the Championship.

As a long-term replacement for Gordon, the Hoops could do a lot worse and should move quickly for the player if they are interested, with the player unlikely to be available for long.

Leeds United: Bielsa must consider cashing in on Kalvin Phillips this summer

It has been a fantastic year for Kalvin Phillips at Leeds United, hasn’t it?

Under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa, the 23-year-old produced a number of outstanding displays for the Whites during the 2018/19 campaign as he helped the club secure a third-place finish in the Championship.

Although Phillips ended up being powerless to stop Leeds’ capitulation in their play-off semi-final second leg earlier this month, he clearly has all the ingredients needed to become a modern-day hero at Elland Road.

However, with the Whites now facing yet another season in the second tier, it is not guaranteed that the midfielder will still be at the club in August.

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa and Derby County are both interested in signing Phillips who has two years remaining on his existing deal at Leeds.

Whereas a move to the Rams would be seen by many as a sideways move for the £6.3m-rated ace (via Transfermarkt), the Lions could be more of an attractive proposition following their play-off final victory yesterday.

Having demonstrated a superb level of consistency in the second tier over the past 10 months, there is no reason why Phillips cannot thrive in the Premier League next year and so Leeds may find themselves having to make an extremely tough decision this summer.

Although replacing the midfielder would be hard for the Whites, it could be argued that by cashing in on him, they may just have a better chance of achieving promotion to the top-flight.

Given his undoubted qualities, Phillips would attract a hefty fee if he is made available for transfer by Leeds which could be re-invested into the squad by Bielsa.

However, any possible sale may be dependent on whether chairman Andrea Radrizzani decides to sell his controlling share in the Whites to Qatari businessman Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

What do you think Leeds fans? Can your club keep hold of Phillips this summer? Or would it be more beneficial in the long term to sell the midfielder when the transfer window opens in July? Get in touch below.

The Chalkboard: Dembele selection for cup final would be a gift for Celtic fans

[ad_pod ]

Celtic are just days away from their mammoth cup final against Hearts at Hampden.

It’s not just any final either, it’s an opportunity for Neil Lennon and his side to make history again and secure a treble of trophies for the third successive season.

Before Brendan Rodgers walked through the doors at Celtic Park in 2016 trebles were rare in Scottish football, but a clean sweep of trophies since then has Celtic fans celebrating unprecedented success.

Supporters though don’t just want to see the Hoops win, they want to win with style and what better way to do that than by unleashing one of the club’s top young talents on Craig Levein’s team?

On the chalkboard

The idea of playing a 16 year old in a national final may seem bizarre to some, but Karamoko Dembele’s cameo on Sunday had Celtic fans on their feet and even booing their own players when the diminutive attacking midfielder did not get the opportunity to take a free kick.

He’s caught the imagination of fans and it would be an incredible story for the player to make his name at Hampden Park on Saturday.

Starting the match is perhaps out of the question, but if things are going well then there’ll be an expectancy for him to be brought onto the pitch if he makes the bench.

His awareness, vision and skill is already a level above most players in the country, why not give him the opportunity to show what he can do in a momentous final?

What are his teammates saying?

Talents such as Callum McGregor certainly aren’t ruling out him getting an appearance.

The Hoops midfielder couldn’t offer enough praise for the teenager when speaking this week, impressed by the manner with which he took to the game on Sunday.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, McGregor said of Dembele: “At such a young age, to come on and play with the maturity he did was great. You can see his football brain working before the ball even comes to him. It’s a massive talent to have at such a young age. If he was to get on at the weekend in the Scottish Cup Final it would be an amazing achievement. It certainly seems like nothing fazes him. As soon as he came into first team training, he looked comfortable. He isn’t overawed.”

Be sure to check out the incredible story of the man who rose from a Tanzanian refugee camp to become one of Australia’s biggest football stars in the video below…

That’s an endorsement and a half and if McGregor reckons the young man can cope with the pressure of playing against Hearts this weekend then who are we to argue?

Go on Neil Lennon, give your fans something extra special to cheer about.

The new Bramble: Newcastle fans slam Lascelles following another poor performance

[ad_pod ]

It would be fair to say that a number of Newcastle United fans were not pleased with the performance of skipper Jamaal Lascelles in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Liverpool.

Newcastle actually played very well for long stages of the clash with Jurgen Klopp’s side, but Divock Origi’s 86th-minute header secured all three points for the Reds.

Lascelles was certainly guilty of missing a few headers during the 90 minutes, and it was a tough night for the Magpies captain against the free-scoring title hopefuls.

It is generally thought that Lascelles is a player capable of excellence, but simply makes too many mistakes to be considered as a potential starter for England.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez must be seeing something positive from the 25-year-old on a daily basis to continue playing him.

But a number of the club’s fans hated what they saw from the central defender at St James’ Park on Saturday evening, and for the majority of the season.

A selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Shockwaves: Robbie Keane to Leeds United

Robbie Keane was once the British record holder for a teenager, but his performances at Elland Road fell WELL short of expectations.

We can understand why managers go a little wild when they are handed a transfer pot to play around with. Heck, we do the same on Football Manager – and that is just a video game. New and exciting talent joining the squad from all four corners of the world – strutting their stuff in front of fans. In a way, the player’s success feels like an extension of your own. As a manager, you made it happen – after all. But David O’Leary took it one step too far. Like a fat kid in a sweet shop, the former Leeds United manager dipped his hands every available jar – making 18 signings at a total outlay of £96.3m (as per The Guardian).

Following an impressive season with Coventry in which he claimed 12 goals in 31 games Inter Milan saw fit to recruit his services, instigating one of the most unlikely interactions between two football clubs. Unfortunately, however, Keane did not take well to Italian football and after just a single year he found himself back in England – Leeds United the suitors.

Any man who performs well alongside cult hero Mark Viduka gets the green light from just about anyone in the footballing world, and that is exactly what Robbie Keane did. In his first season at the club (on loan) the Ireland star bagged eight goals for his new employers, kicking off what probably should have been a very healthy relationship with one of the nation’s most iconic footballing institutions.

His pace and niftiness around the box complimented the brutish but elegant style of Leeds established forward, and at such a young age, the competition he created with the Whites other youngster, Alan Smith, was extremely healthy.

All was well. Until the following season happened, anyway. After making his move to West Yorkshire permanent for an estimated £12million (as per Daily Mail), the Ireland star flopped pretty badly and in the 25 league appearances he made, he picked up the same number of yellow cards as he did goals – three.

Although Leeds managed a fifth-place finish that year, we think it is fair to say he played a very insignificant part.

He joined Tottenham just a year later and, while he’s rightly recognised as one of the Premier League’s most prolific strikers, did little to prove worth Leeds’ money.

Southampton fans not happy as James Ward-Prowse remains on the England bench

[ad_pod ]

Furious Southampton fans took to Twitter to fume about the non-selection of midfielder James Ward-Prowse for England’s UEFA 2020 European Championship qualifier away at Montenegro.

The Saints man remained on the Three Lions’ bench in Podgorica, just like he did last Friday evening when Gareth Southgate’s men welcomed the Czech Republic to Wembley Stadium.

Ward-Prowse was forced to watch most of the evening’s action from the sidelines, only getting on the pitch for the final eight minutes of the 5-1 win as he replaced Ross Barkley.

A large group of Southampton supporters strongly believe the in-form 24-year-old should have made the starting Xl for the game and it’s hard to disagree with them when you consider his six goals in his last nine Premier League matches.

One simply commented sarcastically “shock,” whilst others suggested some kind of feud between the player and Southgate as the reason for his non-selection and showed disgust at Declan Rice being selected ahead of him.

Sheffield United: Wilder must sacrifice Chris Basham to achieve promotion

Not even the most optimistic of Sheffield United supporters w0uld have believed at the start of the season that their side would be within touching distance of automatic promotion with just eight games to play.

Yet, after their dramatic victory at Elland Road on Saturday against Leeds United, the Blades have put themselves in a fabulous position in the Championship table.

Currently second and one point ahead of the Whites, Chris Wilder’s side are now in control of their fate and know that a continuation of their recent form will all but guarantee Premier League football next season.

However, in order to achieve this goal, the former Oxford United boss will have to sacrifice the experiment of playing central defender Chris Basham in the heart of midfield.

Although the 30-year-old was responsible for the winner at the weekend, his inclusion in an unfamiliar role affected the usual attacking prowess which has propelled United into the promotion hunt this season.

With the Blades facing Bristol City, Birmingham City and Preston North End over the course of the next month, Wilder will know that he needs more creativity in his midfield to ensure that the club’s momentum continues and therefore either Kieran Dowell or Mark Duffy should return to the starting eleven in place of Basham.

Also, it is extremely unlikely that United will surrender as much of the ball in any of their remaining fixtures compared to their approach against Leeds and so there will be more of an emphasis of controlling the tempo rather than setting up to counter-attack.

A return to defence for Basham could suit United as he fits the unique mold of a centre-back who can provide an attacking threat However, with both Martin Cranie and Jack O’Connell producing brilliant displays at the weekend, it may prove to be difficult for him to force himself back into his favoured position.

What do you think Blades fans? Is Basham good enough to keep his position in central midfield? Or should he return to his usual role in defence to accommodate Duffy or Dowell? Let us know below.

Sheffield United fans want Duffy in the team

[ad_pod ]

Sheffield United failed to move into the automatic promotion places on Monday night as they could only secure a goalless draw against their bitter rivals Sheffield Wednesday in the Steel City derby at Hillsborough.

Chris Wilder’s side were by far the more aggressive, and played on the front foot throughout. However, Steve Bruce’s Owls defended diligently, and as such the likes of Billy Sharp and Gary Madine failed to really threaten the opposition.

The Bramall Lane club have now lost the initiative in the Championship promotion race, with Leeds United and Norwich City still ahead of them. However, there’s still plenty of football to be played.

Did Chris Wilder get it wrong in the Steel City derby? Check out the thoughts of Ingood Nick below…

If Wilder’s side are to get back into an automatic promotion spot though they have to show more penetration and incision than they did on Monday. In order to provide the injection of creativity they need, Mark Duffy should come back into the starting XI. The 33-year-old midfielder has been benched for the Blades’ last two games with Kieran Dowell preferred.

Plenty of United fans want the Liverpool-born man back in the side. After the derby disappointment, lots of supporters took to Twitter to appeal for Duffy to come back into the fold…
