O zagueiro assistiu toda a vitória do Santos no estádio Walter Ribeiro, no interior.

O colombiano foi um pedido de Sampaoli à direção e chega para brigar pela vaga de titular na equipe alvinegra. O beque estava no Atlético Nacional, da Colômbia, antes de chegar ao Santos.

Tidy Maharashtra bowling dents Delhi

An unheralded bowling attack on a wicket that is made for accuracy and length had Delhi all out for 193 late into the second day in a match they need to win. At stumps, Maharashtra were 3 for no loss

Sharda Ugra in Delhi16-Dec-2012
ScorecardDelhi needed two wins to give themselves a chance at squeezing into the Ranji knockouts. But at the Roshanara Club, they were far from a dominant position to force the win against Maharashtra. An unheralded bowling attack on a wicket that is made for accuracy and length had Delhi all out for 193 late into the second day. At stumps, Maharashtra were 3 for no loss.In theory, Delhi can still win the match, as two innings have been completed and two days of play remain. Maharashtra’s first innings lasted just over 55 overs, and Delhi’s more lauded batting survived all of 77. It was proof enough of Maharashtra’s control that the run-scoring was neither fluent nor easy. This is a match played in fast forward, and so far, it appears Maharashtra’s first innings may not mean much. They have the advantage, though, on two grounds.First, they know that should bad weather wipe out chunks of the remaining two days, they have done enough to be the team ahead. Overnight rain and a morning shower delayed play by two hours this morning, and at stumps only 54 overs could be bowled in the day.Secondly, at all costs, Delhi will have to win this match with the bat, chasing any half-reasonable target on a wicket that is made for bowlers with discipline and accuracy. One of them would be left-arm pace bowler Samad Fallah, who picked up 5-67 in the 29 overs he bowled in three long spells of eleven, ten and eight overs running through the Delhi innings. It is his tenth five-wicket haul in his 40th first-class match, and not the first time he has bowled at the Roshanara. He picked up five wickets in his first match here two years ago and so knew how to bowl on this wicket. When play resumed, Manhas and Rawal played for most part of an hour, before Manhas tried to force the issue, playing across the line to the parsimonious Fallah. He was the first wicket to fall in the day, but it was the departure of the other Delhi stalwart Rajat Bhatia that signalled the end of Delhi’s frontline batsmen. Fallah came around the wicket to Bhatia and nibbled at his glove as he went forward defending, and wicketkeeper Motwani took the catch. He said his team thought of him as the bowler of the big wickets, and remembered getting Suresh Raina out for a duck against UP. “I relish the challenge of bowling to the best batsmen in a team. The others that are not that good, they play and miss.”The latter half of the Delhi innings was wrapped up by Nikit Dhumal, a debutant for Maharashtra in this game. It was a performance that Fallah appreciated. “Nikit made his debut in the under-25s for Maharashtra this season. And when we saw him here, it wasn’t like he was making his debut at this level. He brought us back into this game.”Dhumal picked up the wickets of Delhi top scorer, Vaibhav Rawal, blocking off the midwicket, which produced a stylishly lofted flick that landed in the hands of Anupam Sankelcha at deep-backward square leg. He then removed Sumit Narwal and Pradeep Sangwan, bowlers who were capable of exuberant innings that could have shrunk the score. It would be possible to defend any sizeable target that Maharashtra can set Delhi. The reason said Fallah, with a smile, was “because they’re desperate.”

'Dropped catches have hurt Sri Lanka'- Mathews

Angelo Mathews has said dropped catches have cost Sri Lanka the ongoing ODI series against India. Suresh Raina, who was involved in match-winning partnerships during the third and the fourth ODI in Colombo, was put down at crucial stages in both games. Virender Sehwag was dropped on zero in the opening game in Hambantota before he made 96 as India posted a winning 314. “Against the Indian batting line up, you can’t drop that many catches,” Mathews said. “If you take from number one to seven, they’re all are very good batters.”The series has been played on largely flat batting-friendly pitches so far. Mathews said he favoured “sporting” wickets, especially against a strong Indian batting line-up. “I’ve always fancied good sporting tracks, rather than playing on dead tracks. We all know that they [India] have a very strong batting line up. We need to come up with ideas, if we’re to win against them. Preparing certain wickets also will help.”Sri Lanka have not beaten India in a bilateral ODI series since 1997. Mathews said Sri Lanka had made more mistakes than India had, and cited the example of the current series. “It happened three times so far in this series. If we make more mistakes, we’re going to get more penalised. I’m sure the guys are aware of that and if we’re to win, we need to me more positive and aggressive.”Sri Lanka have had a heavy workload since the 2011 World Cup while India have had a two-month break. Mathews said that professional players could not cite fatigue as an excuse, but admitted that India’s break had helped them. “We’re all professionals and we play the game with busy schedules. It’s certainly not an excuse. It’s always better to have a few days off. We really haven’t had a long break in the last one and half years. Yes, I think it [the break] has helped them [India] to freshen up.”With tomorrow’s game of little consequence, Mathews said Sri Lanka might consider giving fringe players a chance. Batsman Chamara Kapugedara and offspinner Sachithra Senanayake are yet to play a game in the series.Mathews also backed young batsman Dinesh Chandimal, whose highest score in the series has been 28, to come good. “We don’t try to distract him with too much talking. He’s a player who can always come back and do his part. He’s shown lots of character. A player can fail in three four innings but a guy like Chandimal will always come back.”

Durham bring in Myburgh

Durham have signed South African batsman Johan Myburgh as their second overseas player for the Friends Life t20

ESPNcricinfo staff15-Jun-2012Durham have signed South African batsman Johann Myburgh as their second overseas player for the Friends Life t20. Myburgh impressed during a trial for the club, hitting 30 and 48 not out against Lancashire second XI and taking two wickets with his part-time offspin.Myburgh, who has previously played for Hampshire, could make his Durham debut on Friday against Yorkshire, after being included in a 13-man squad for the match at Headingley. The 31-year-old has a Twenty20 average of 29.55, with a top score of 80 in 36 matches, and will provide cover for the injured Paul Collingwood.”It’s been a great few days with Durham already and I’m looking forward to getting started in the T20,” Myburgh said. “I felt in good shape in the warm-up games and scored a few runs so hopefully I can continue to perform well and post some good scores for the team. I know Durham have big aspirations in the competition after reaching the quarter-finals last year and I want to be contributing to more success.”Geoff Cook, Durham’s head coach, added: “It’s great to have Johann join us for the duration of the T20 competition. He has a great attitude and I was impressed by his performance for us this week, not just with the bat but in the field too. With Paul Collingwood injured he is an experienced batsmen to add that extra dimension to our batting line up and also offers us an extra bowling option.”Herschelle Gibbs, Durham’s other overseas player, is also in line to make his first appearance for the county at Yorkshire, while fast bowler Graham Onions will be available after returning from England duty in the third Test against West Indies.

Shield cricket Shaun Marsh's 'path' to WI – Arthur

Shaun Marsh’s 79 in the Shield game against Queensland has pleased national coach Mickey Arthur, but Marsh will need sustained performance in first-class cricket if he is to make it to the West Indies trip, Arthur said. At the same time, the national team is keen to give Peter Forrest a few games in the triangular ODI series to test another option. Also, Shane Watson begins playing grade cricket this week, and if he recovers well he could provide more competition for Marsh’s slot as there is a fair chance Watson might be allowed to bat lower down the order when does come back.”I was very pleased for Shaun,” Arthur said. “Shaun has been through some really tough times over the last two months. His confidence took a little bit of a knock. I spoke to him last night and it’s really good to hear that he was a lot chirpier and a lot more upbeat. Amazing what a couple of runs do for you.”Arthur said Marsh’s way back was through Shield cricket and not ODIs. “That would be his path for the West Indies,” Arthur said. “He will have to keep knocking the door with the weight of shield runs. Confident he is going to do that, and I am hoping he does.”Shield is a really good breeding ground for young players. And Shaun needs to get his runs and get his form and his confidence back in the Shield. We will see how things unfolds later in the one-day series, but for now we are content to see him get runs in the Shield consistently and doing it day after day and putting himself in the frame for West Indies.”Arthur also wants to have a look at Forrest before West Indies. “We do need to see Peter Forrest at some stage,” he said. “We haven’t given it too much thought; that’s tomorrow’s problem. Likely Peter Forrest might get a go. We still got to have a lot of discussion around that. I am not sure where he fits in, but we will have some discussion leading up to the game.”It is heartening for Australia that Watson is making a comeback to fitness. “It’s been frustrating for us and frustrating for Shane, it really has,” Arthur said. “I speak to Shane weekly and just keep track of where he is, and I guess it would be true to say that we thought we would have Shane back a lot earlier. We haven’t. But it’s really good because he has built his body up to where it needs to be, and hopefully we can get sustainable performance from Shane once he gets back in. So hope it goes well for him in grade cricket this week, and we can reassess where we think he is and hopefully we can get him back into the one-day competition.”Australia are happy to wait for Watson to get back to full fitness, to a stage where he can both bowl and bat. “I don’t think we can put a timeframe on that [comeback],” Arthur said. “We’ve got to be happy, and he’s got to be happy. He’s got to be happy that his body can sustain batting and bowling. I’m not sure. As long as we’re all happy and he fits the bill, then I’m sure we’ll consider bringing him back in.”Arthur indicated Watson might not be needed to open in Tests again once he does come back. “He can bat anywhere,” Arthur said. “I think ultimately he’ll bat down the order and bowl at some stage. We need to have that discussion. We’ve broached it once or twice before but [there’s been] nothing definite. It’s where best he fits for us and where best it fits for him. He’s going to be doing some bowling and Michael [Clarke] has used him wisely through the period that he had him before this summer. It’s how he can sustain that bowling and open the batting that’s going to be the question.”Fitness-wise, Australia have more good news around the corner. They are expecting James Pattinson back towards the final stage of the ODI triangular, and Pat Cummins is on his way back too. “Pattinson bowled at us [in the nets] in Melbourne, so he’s coming back,” Arthur said. “Pattinson we could see at the back end of the one-day series. Cummins we probably won’t see until West Indies time. If we’re comfortable that he’s done everything possible, we’re comfortable to select him…”Arthur didn’t rule out Brad Haddin’s comeback into the side despite Matthew Wade’s promising start to his international career. Haddin could possibly play a few ODIs in the middle stages of the ODI series. “I couldn’t commit to that just yet,” Arthur said. “There’s been talk for it, yes, but again it will be results-driven and how everyone’s going at that time. Brad is certainly nowhere near out of the equation. We still regard Brad very highly.”I thought he was okay, he did the job through the Indian series. He would have liked a little bit more runs but didn’t get that much opportunity to get massive scores because our top order generally did the job. Good to see Wadey pushing him. It’s likely we’ll take two keepers to the West Indies anyway, so it will be a nice little internal battle going on and I look forward to seeing who comes up trumps out of that.”

Delhi back to winning ways on green track

by 29 runs
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsPace and bounce? Yes, please, said Sehwag and Warner•AFP

Delhi finally feels like home for Delhi Daredevils. With players such as Virender Sehwag, David Warner and Morne Morkel in the side, they had been frustrated by lifeless home tracks that made stroke-play and pace bowling difficult. Before this game Sehwag demanded pace, and then in the company of Warner showed just why. They added 146 for the first wicket in 11.4 overs, an ideal platform for a comfortable win despite an equally remarkable innings by Shaun Marsh, and despite the continuing good luck of Kings XI Punjab’s openers who were both dropped on nought. With the ball coming on well on this green pitch, Warner and Sehwag let the bowlers feel their wrath. They were like beasts who had been uncaged after years of confinement, gorging on anything remotely loose. It is a scary thought to imagine what Sehwag would have managed had he not got out for 77 off 35, trying a fourth successive six off the fourth delivery of a David Hussey over. Sehwag even dived into his crease, one of the very few times he has committed that unbecoming act while batting, to bring up his half-century off 28 deliveries, one fewer that Warner took to reach his.Warner got to his landmark with a trademark pull deep into the stands, his second pulled six and third overall. Sehwag was on only 36 then. It takes some special hitting to dominate the strike and still not frustrate Sehwag. Warner managed that nicely. He began in earnest in the first over, pulling and cutting Praveen Kumar for fours. Ryan Harris managed to trouble him for a bit with the extra bounce, but Warner’s comeback was emphatic: a huge pull over midwicket to end Harris’ spell of 2-0-13-0 in a score of 35 for 0 after four overs. The floodgates had just begun to open then. Sehwag tucked into Praveen with three fours in the fifth over, Warner went down on a knee and lofted Shalabh Srivastava’s medium-pace over the sightscreen. The middle overs and spread fields mattered little as both batsmen moved to 59 each by the end of the 11th over. Enter Hussey, Punjab’s expensive signing, playing his first game this IPL. Sehwag showed his famous disdain for spin through sixes over long-on, cow corner and midwicket. A mis-hit off the fourth ball brought some decorum to the proceedings, with only 38 coming in the next 5.2 overs. That phase included Warner’s wicket for 77 off 48 balls. Temporary relief. Lull between storms. Harris came back to have his figures rearranged, ending with 48 off four to join two other colleagues with 40-plus aggregates to their names. Venugopal Rao and Naman Ojha took 47 off the last three overs to post the third-highest total in IPL history, and Delhi’s biggest.Morkel made a further show of why a pitch with bounce suits Delhi more. He got lift, he got movement, he got an edge second ball, one that was dropped by Ojha. However, Morkel’s first spell of three overs for 20, four of which came through a misfield and 10 off free hits, left Punjab an asking rate of 13.2. A period of superb hitting followed, but despite 57 coming off the next four overs, they were just about keeping up with the rate. A five-run over from James Hopes turned the pressure back on, forcing Gilchrist to slog debutant Varun Aaron and miss.Marsh batted beautifully for his 46-ball 95, fetched mainly through proper cricketing shots in an innings that deserved to be on the winning side. He, though, was swimming against the current, and the current won.
