Injuries have held playmaker backContract running down at GoodisonLooking to reset with a fresh startWHAT HAPPENED?

The former England international has endured a torrid time of late, with injury struggles contributing to a serious dip in form. After taking in just 13 appearances for Everton, and spending time on loan in Turkey at Besiktas, Dele will see his contract at Goodison Park expire in the summer.

AdvertisementGettyTHE BIGGER PICTURE

At 28 years of age, the ex-Tottenham playmaker is approaching an important career crossroads that may allow him to hit the reset button. It is vital that he gets his next move right, with there no doubting the ability that he possesses.

WHAT ROBINSON SAID

Karl Robinson worked with Dele during his younger years at MK Dons and has told of an enigmatic talent: “Tottenham was the right environment for him. There was proof in his meteoric rise. What Mauricio [Pochettino] did with him at Tottenham was incredible, he got to a Champions League final. Everyone has a back story and a problem in their lives and when we find it difficult, it does come back to bite us. Some people have different coping mechanisms, some people have better coping mechanisms. In Dele's case, his was something he has to deal with personally. He then comes back and gets injured, which sets him back probably another 12 months. For me, Dele went in to try to be an individual then from that moment, everything went wrong. He tried to be an individual, the mental health situation he had, going to the rehab clinic in America. It all started coming out. No-one knew at that moment where Dele was in his life."

Robinson added on the approach that needs to be taken in order to make the future brighter than the present and recent past: “It's time for the talking to stop now. He has to have a summer where his pre-season is right, all his talking and positivity is brilliant. I'm happy to see him happy first and foremost. Now I'll be even happier if he goes and does what he loves. I know he's working hard, I know he's got the bit between his teeth, I do know he wants to be successful. I do know he's looking in the face of adversity and there will be an element of fear because we all carry that. The big thing for me is stands there, puts his chest out and works his hardest and success will follow that.”

Clement could unearth his next McCausland in £21k-rated Rangers wizard

Glasgow Rangers appointed Belgian head coach Philippe Clement as Michael Beale's permanent successor and he has enjoyed a strong start to life at Ibrox.

The former Monaco tactician has won nine and drawn three of his 12 competitive matches in all competitions since his arrival in Scotland.

He has hit the ground running and made an instant impact with an impressive unbeaten run whilst also being able to showcase his willingness to offer young players a chance to shine.

Glasgow Rangers managerPhilippe Clement.

Academy starlet Ross McCausland has made the step up to the first-team and has caught the eye with a string of impressive displays.

However, supporters may now look at the current B Team roster and wonder who the next breakout star could be. Arron Lyall is one player who could follow in his former teammate's footsteps as Clement's next young prospect.

McCausland's season in numbers

The Northern Ireland international has made 12 appearances across the Scottish Premiership and Europa League so far this season.

He has provided nine key passes and created one 'big chance' in nine outings and three starts in the top-flight, to go along with a pass success rate of 83%.

The academy graduate is yet to start a match in the Europa League but did notch his first senior goal for the club against Aris last time out at Ibrox.

McCausland came off the bench for Todd Cantwell during the first-half and caught the eye with one key pass, two completed dribbles, and one goal in 54 minutes.

The 20-year-old whiz picked the ball up on the edge of the box and brilliantly found the bottom corner with a crisp finish to secure a point for his side.

He has been able to adapt to first-team football and now looks set to play a key role for the senior squad moving forward into the rest of the season, which shows that the Belgian tactician played a masterclass by trusting him to perform despite his age and inexperience.

The statistics that show why Arron Lyall could be the next McCausland

Clement could unearth his next McCausland by offering current B Team star Arron Lyall an opportunity to stake a claim for himself in the coming weeks.

The Scottish gem has already been on the bench in three Europa League games but is yet to make his senior debut for the Glasgow giants.

A first-team bow may not be far away if he continues to shine for the B Team as his record at the top end of the pitch is currently more impressive than McCausland's was.

The Northern Irish gem produced nine goals and five assists in 41 appearances for Rangers B, which is one goal involvement every 2.93 matches on average.

Whereas, Lyall has contributed with 15 goals and three assists in 41 outings for Rangers B in all competitions, which is an average of one goal or assist every 2.28 games.

That record includes an eye-catching return of 13 goals and two assists in 34 Lowland League matches, and this shows that the 29-year-old wizard has the quality to chip in with goals at an impressive rate from a wide position.

The £21k-rated ace, who was once described as "exciting" by Inverness boss Neil McCann, has shown plenty of promise at youth level and McCausland's progression proves that Clement will give chances to young players, which could open the door for Lyall to follow in his footsteps.

Therefore, the Belgian boss could repeat the masterclass he played with the Northern Irish gem by bringing the former Scotland U16 international into the squad to showcase his attacking talent.

Sky Sports drop live update on West Ham move for Sunderland’s Jack Clarke

Sunderland will be hoping to look back on their decision to appoint Michael Beale as a vital turning point in their aim for Championship promotion. So far, the former Rangers boss has endured a mixed start when it comes to league action, having been smashed by Coventry City in his first game in charge, before defeating play-off rivals Hull City, drawing at Rotherham and beating Preston North End. Sandwiched in between that, meanwhile, was a disappointing FA Cup exit at the hands of bitter rivals Newcastle United.

As he attempts to gain some consistency in England's second tier, however, Beale looks set to face a battle to keep one of his best players amid interest from European champions.

Sunderland transfer news

Beale has been handed no easy task this month, with the job of keeping the Black Cats in the race for a place inside the top six, making his mark on the side through incomings and hope that his best players stay put. As the window goes on, that final task may prove to be more and more difficult with West Ham United reportedly eyeing one particular star.

According to a live TV update from Sky Sports, West Ham are keen to sign Jack Clarke, with the deal at the "early stages" this month. West Ham, off the back of winning the Europa Conference League at the end of the last campaign, certainly have the ability to attract top players, and Clarke is reportedly one of the options that the Hammers are looking at, though those at The Stadium of Light aren't panicking just yet.

As the January transfer window goes on and Clarke continues to impress, the winger could certainly be one to keep an eye on when it comes to potential Sunderland exits.

"Amazing" Clarke vital to Sunderland's promotion chances

Clarke's stats this season paint the picture of a player at the top of his game in the Championship. The winger has already scored 12 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions this season, whilst also turning provider on two occasions.

If Beale is to secure Sunderland's place in the play-offs come May, then Clarke should prove to be the key. With the Black Cats just one point ahead of seventh-placed Hull City too, they simply cannot afford to let their star man leave this month.

Jack Clarke

Clarke earned the praise of former boss Mowbray following Sunderland's 3-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers, in which he scored a brace. Mowbray said via The Sunderland Echo: "Jack was amazing tonight, won and scored a penalty and the composure for his second goal… not just that, the more the game went on the more our players knew just to give it to Clarke. He can run 40 yards, he can cut inside and pass it to people in the box, shoot.

"He's a super talent and a great kid. I make no apology for shouting at him and telling him to work hard because I always say to him, all the best players, the great players – they work harder than anyone else and then the talent shines through."

Man Utd could repeat Hojlund trick by signing £26m-rated Casemiro replacement

For many Manchester United fans, they no doubt wish that the season could just be over already, with the 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest being the latest underwhelming showing.

Erik ten Hag’s team are now eighth in the Premier League after 20 games, losing nine matches already.

With that in mind, the boss is desperate to make additions to his squad in January, with injuries preventing squad rotation.

Man Utd transfers latest – Ederson

According to Goal Brasil, the Red Devils are interested in signing Ederson of Atalanta, who has been previously described as “instrumental” by Breaking The Lines.

Talks are yet to begin between the two clubs, but United are contemplating sending a proposal in January.

The Brazilian is estimated to be worth £26m, as per CIES Football Observatory, and the midfielder is reportedly keen on the move.

Ederson’s style of play

Due to what seems to be a never-ending injury list, Ten Hag will look to bring in the 24-year-old engine. The boss has already purchased an Atalanta player this season, and therefore, the potential signing of Ederson could see the Rasmus Hojlund trick repeated.

Hojlund has netted just once in the Premier League this season, yet there have certainly been signs of promise in his embryonic United career, having scored five times during the club's Champions League group stage run.

Rasmus Hojlund

Signing Ederson could then also prove an exciting addition for both the present and future, with the Atalanta midfielder a vital cog in Gian Piero Gasperini’s system this season, playing every Serie A game and starting all but one.

The ex-Salernitana man has also netted four goals this season in Italy, which would make him United’s second-highest top scorer in the Premier League.

The midfielder has a vast skill set, and the table below shows his profile using stats from this season’s Serie A, while comparing them to his positional peers.

As you can see, Ederson is the definition of a box-to-box midfielder who can impact the game at both ends of the field. He currently plays in the midfield two of a 3-4-2-1 variant, which is an extremely demanding role both in and out of possession.

What instantly stands out regarding the Brazilian is his incredible out-of-possession work rate and statistics. His physicality and athleticism allow him to cover ground well, and when you combine that with his high tackles, dribblers tackled, and interception statistics, he would massively help United’s issue with defending transitions.

Furthermore, he is confident on the ball and is always willing to receive a pass, even under pressure. When in possession, Ederson likes to progress the play and get the ball into the attackers. His progressive passes and passes into the final third showcase that, and with Kobbie Mainoo the only defensive midfielder that can currently do that in the Red Devils squad, Ederson would be a welcomed addition.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro.

Overall, the signing of Ederson would elevate Man United to a whole new level. With Casemiro potentially out the door, Sofyan Amrabat failing to impress, and Scott McTominay offering nothing but goals, Ten Hag should look to sign the Brazilian this January.

If United’s number 18 does leave this month, it could free up the funds to sign his compatriot, and he would walk into the United starting XI.

Tottenham move "ready" for Dragusin after important January update

It's been reported that a Tottenham Hotspur bid to sign one club's star centre-back is now "ready", and finances don't appear to be an issue.

Spurs chasing new centre-back in January

It's almost common knowledge that Spurs want to sign a central defender next month, as a plethora of reliable media sources have stated as much.

Levy could meet asking price to sign star new centre-back target for Spurs

He’s one of the most aggressive defenders in his league.

ByEmilio Galantini Dec 21, 2023

Sky Sports have backed that bringing in a centre-back is top priority for Tottenham and manager Ange Postecoglou, coming after a long-term hamstring injury for Micky van de Ven seriously exposed their lack of options. The Spurs head coach has even admitted that the club need to sign a new centre-back, despite the brilliant form of makeshift centre-back Ben Davies.

"Ben’s still adapting to it," said Postecoglou on Davies recently (via football.london). "He’s done remarkably well. Centre-back is still a position where, especially in our structure, it is one of the few positions where you need guys with outstanding attributes in there. We’ve been very fortunate that he’s been able to fill in for us there.

"He’s really good at taking in information, he really understands the game, not just his own role but how we want to play and that’s helped him. Having Romero next to him helps in that sense and Vic because he’s taken a bit of a leadership role back there as well. Ultimately, we still need to sign another centre-back because at the moment we are a little bit on tenterhooks because if something happens again we are short and we are already short."

One such option, according to recent reports, could well be Genoa star Radu Dragusin.

The Romanian is currently heavily linked with a move to Spurs, despite a proposed new deal at his current club. Reports out of Italy have been claiming that the north Londoners are preparing a bid for Dragusin, and now another update says that offer is "ready".

Tottenham bid for Dragusin now "ready"

According to TUTTOmercatoWEB and journalist Andrea Losapio, Spurs' offer to sign Dragusin is coming and there is a belief that the Lilywhites won't have any issue paying his £26 million price tag.

They apparently have a proposal ready and raring to go, as they attempt to reach an agreement for the "complete" 21-year-old starlet. Atalanta, who are also interested, recently made a bid of their own for Dragusin but it is believed Genoa turned their noses up.

Radu Dragusin up against Victor Osimhen for Genoa.

Tottenham have sent "emissaries" to watch him regularly this term, according to this report, and the player's agent Florin Manea is quoted to have admitted interest from Spurs.

“The people from Genoa know (that he will soon leave),” Manea explained to Fanatik last month.

“I have been in London for some time and have almost weekly meetings with important teams. We are getting closer. I spoke with Newcastle, with Arsenal, with Tottenham. I also have the messages with them, conversations. There are teams that ask."

Everton could sign £26m-rated Beto upgrade who "can do anything"

Following a four-game winning run, Everton are now on a four-match losing streak and are dangerously sitting just one point above the relegation zone, having initially done so well to climb out of the bottom three in the Premier League after receiving a ten-point deduction for breaching FFP regulations back in November.

However, the biggest worry for Sean Dyche will be his side's lack of potency up top. Only five teams have scored fewer goals than the Toffees this season and the manager is reportedly keen to rectify this issue during the winter transfer window.

Everton transfer news – Iliman Ndiaye

According to a report from Ignazio Genuardi last week, Everton are keen to sign Marseille attacker Iliman Ndiaye before the January window slams shut and will battle it out with Crystal Palace and his former club Sheffield United for the forward's signature.

Furthermore, the journalist is claiming that the French outfit are not willing to send the Senegalese attacker out on loan, meaning only a permanent deal could be on the table, with the player currently valued at £26m, as per CIES Football Observatory.

Marseille midfielderIliman Ndiaye.

Having helped the Blades to promotion back to the Premier League last season, earning the club's Player of the Year award, Ndiaye moved to France for £20m during the summer transfer window. However, his time at the Stade Velodrome hasn't gone as well as he'd have hoped, having scored just one goal and recording three assists in 23 appearances in all competitions for the French giants.

Nevertheless, now a return to England could be on the cards and Everton should do everything in their power to push to the front of the queue.

Iliman Ndiaye stats comparison vs Beto

Perhaps the biggest indictment on Everton's season so far has been that midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure is the club's top goalscorer this term, having scored six goals in 20 appearances. One could even argue that the Malian has been the Toffees' best player this season. Doucoure has missed all of Everton's previous four outings and the side have managed to score merely three goals, losing each one in the process.

Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is second in the team's goalscoring charts with four goals, while £26m summer signing Beto lags behind by one. The latter has arguably been the biggest disappointment this season. Calvert-Lewin has spent large parts of Dyche's reign sidelined with recurring injuries and the Portuguese striker was brought in to lead the line in his absence. However, three goals in 19 appearances paint a different picture.

The 25-year-old seems to have all the characteristics of a perfect Dyche centre-forward, notably his 6 foot 4 frame, but it hasn't quite clicked at Goodison Park for him. On the other hand, Ndiaye is just under 6 foot, yet looks like a much better fit for Everton given his ability to not only score goals but to link the play up front as well.

In Ndiaye's final season in English football, his stats are levels above Beto's from the current campaign – albeit while having been operating in the second tier.

Ndiaye was integral to Sheffield United achieving promotion in the 2022/23 campaign and even earned praise from his teammate Chris Basham, who expressed that the Senegal international "can do anything" on a football pitch.

Now, the 23-year-old could be Dyche's saviour if Everton can get a deal done by the end of the transfer window.
