With the transfer window edging ever closer, Newcastle United have reportedly made their first proposal to sign a future star for Eddie Howe to get the Magpies' summer started with a bang.
Newcastle transfer news
PIF certainly aren't messing around ahead of the summer window, having paid such a price for their insufficient squad depth in the current campaign, and look destined to get some of their business done early. According to reports, that business will start with Lloyd Kelly, who is set to leave Bournemouth as a free agent at the end of the season.
Newcastle join the race to sign "one of the best defenders in the world"
What a signing he could be for the Magpies.

The left-back, who can also play as a central defender, has reportedly reached an agreement with Newcastle and will complete his switch to St James' Park in the coming months. Following ACL injuries to both Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles, Kelly's arrival couldn't be better timed to finally ease Newcastle's defensive woes come the start of the next campaign.
AFC Bournemouth'sLloydKellylooks dejected after the match
The trend of bargain buys will only continue from there too, with Newcastle looking to reinforce their squad and stay clear of any Financial Fair Play punishment at the same time by potentially landing a future star.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle have made their first offer to sign Amario Cozier-Duberry on a free deal upon the expiry of his Arsenal deal this summer. The deal is not yet sealed and Arsenal are still in talks over fresh terms themselves, but the proposal is certainly a positive sign of what could be on the horizon.
Still just 18 years old, Cozier-Duberry's potential move to Newcastle could quickly turn into a bargain deal if he reaches his potential in years to come.
"Exciting" Cozier-Duberry can replace Almiron
Whilst Cozier-Duberry's first aim should be to gain some first-team minutes in some way, shape or form if he completes a move to Newcastle, the end goal should be for the winger to replace Miguel Almiron. The teenager can provide the spark down the right-hand side that Almiron has otherwise lacked compared to the last campaign, perhaps indicating that now is the time for a change.
Those at Arsenal, still looking to keep hold of Cozier-Duberry, haven't been shy in their praise, with Jack Wilshere telling The Athletic: "Amario is very exciting and Mikel likes him. He reminds me of Bukayo Saka, plays in the same position as him, needs to get better with his decision-making like Bukayo did, but he's definitely exciting. In some moments he's unplayable.
"You give him the ball and he can make things happen. You can set up a team and have a game plan, but when you've got individuals like that you've got a chance."
Now, it is Newcastle who could be left benefitting from a future star who could be ready to replace Almiron as soon as possible at St James' Park.
Chelsea are eyeing a move for an "extraordinary" La Liga star in the summer transfer window, with Real Madrid ace Vinicius Jr a huge admirer of the player in question.
Chelsea transfer news
The Blues have endured a hugely disappointing season, having started the campaign with high hopes that they could excel under Mauricio Pochettino. Instead, they have flattered to deceive time and time again, with a mid-table finish in the Premier League now looking highly likely.
In order for things to improve moving forward, new signings are required in the summer window, with so many recent additions failing to set the world alight, from Moises Caicedo to Nicolas Jackson.
Chelsea are thought to be targeting additions in wide attacking areas, given the struggles of so many individuals there, including Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling, and reliable journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that as many as four signings are being targeted in that area.
Defensive additions are also expected, not least because Thiago Silva is now on the verge of his 40th birthday. RB Leipzig ace Castello Lukeba has emerged as a reported target for the Blues. Ahead of the weekend, he had completed 91.9% of his passes across 28 Bundesliga appearances this season, highlighting his quality on the ball. The youngster is also seen as an upgrade on Benoit Badiashile, who has disappointed during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea want to sign "extraordinary" ace
According to a new update from transfer reporter Graeme Bailey, Chelsea are interested in signing Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo this summer, but they aren't alone. Manchester United are also believed to be keen on snapping up the Uruguayan, with contact being made with his agents.
Manchester United transfer target Ronald Araujo in action for Barcelona.
The report states that the two clubs "have asked to be kept informed" regarding his situation moving forward, with his current deal expiring in 2026, meaning Barca are in no huge rush to sell him. They have "already touched base with his agents about fresh terms", while German giants Bayern Munich "are understood to still be keen on the Uruguayan star".
Even though he had a nightmare in Barcelona's recent Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain, when he was sent off in the second leg of their quarter-final tie after a defensive lapse, Araujo could be a fantastic signing from Chelsea this summer.
Vinicius Jr is one of the world's best players, and the Brazilian superstar recently singled out the 25-year-old for special praise, saying of him: "It has to be Araujo, who has defended me best. He is very good and very strong, that’s why he plays for Barca."

Manager Xavi has also waxed lyrical about him in the past, with the defender previously showing his commitment to the team by making himself available when not necessarily at full fitness.
Speaking after a match against Valencia, he said: "Araujo has been spectacular. I've asked him [to play] because we needed him.
His match was extraordinary."
At 25 years of age, Chelsea could be getting Araujo as he heads into the peak years of his career, and he is arguably one of La Liga's outstanding defenders currently, averaging 2.7 clearances and 2.4 aerial duel wins per game in the league this season, ranking highly ahead of his teammates. Competition will be strong, though, so it won't be easy for the west Londoners to get their man.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are preparing for their second season under Gary O'Neil's tutelage and will look to make several improvements to the squad while preventing the sharks from stealing their prized assets.
There were genuine concerns that Molineux would suffer a damaging relegation after Julen Lopetegui departed last August, though, despite some high-profile sales, Wolves have shrewdly navigated the 2023/24 campaign to secure a comfortable Premier League finish.
New West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui
But Lopetegui has recently been announced as West Ham United's new manager, and he knows Molineux well. The Spaniard is aware that he needs to shore up the Hammers' defence and is preparing to launch a bid for Max Kilman if reports are to be believed.
Max Kilman's season in numbers
According to The Sun, Lopetegui is prepared to push West Ham toward signing Kilman this summer, with the London club holding a long-term interest in the 27-year-old, who Wolves are expected to demand £45m for.
Kilman joined the club from non-league side Maidenhead for a paltry £40,000 back in 2018 and has risen through the ranks to cement a starring spot in the Wolves team, completing 151 appearances.
Max Kilman celebrates
Wolves will be determined to keep hold of their star defender, who played every minute of the Premier League season and has been described as a "monster" by presenter Tom Parker.
The centre-half – who can also perform at full-back – averaged 4.7 clearances and ball recoveries per game in the league, as per Sofascore, and won a whopping 73% of his aerial battles, so replacing him will certainly not be easy, but O'Neil might find the perfect successor in teenage talent Temple Ojinnaka…
Why Temple Ojinnaka could star for Wolves
Ojinnaka has only just turned 19 but he has gone from strength to strength in the Old Gold Academy, breaking into the U21s with constancy this term after predominantly featuring for the U18s last year.
Jon Hunter-Barrett, Wolves' academy manager, has been one of Ojinnaka's most vocal supporters, citing his positional flexibility as one of the key reasons that he will flourish on the senior stage after the teenager penned his first professional contract in 2023.
He said: “He’s a very versatile player who can play at the back and looks really comfortable playing there, but throughout his development time here he’s been playing in midfield.
“Temple’s still in transition so he will still feature for James McPike’s under-18s this season and predominately play at the back because we think he’s got a big chance of being able to play there.”
Ojinnaka might not be a name known to many at the moment but he is certainly on O'Neil's radar, having already been handed a place in Wolves' matchday squad in the Premier League, serving as an unused substitute during April's 2-0 home defeat against Arsenal.
Moreover, he has played every minute of Wolves U21s' last six games in the Premier League 2, alternating between central defence and out wide, highlighting that versatility that could make him such a valuable player for O'Neil next season and beyond.
Wolves manager Gary O'Neil
At 6 foot 2, he has the rangy frame to hold his own against some of English football's toughest forwards, with pace and power to merge with an impressive and ever-improving skill set.
Should Kilman leave, Wolves would need to sign a replacement, but by promoting Ojinnaka to the first team too, the burden might be shared and the 19-year-old might just find himself fast-tracked to the top.
Wolves hit gold with £50k-p/w star who's worth more than Neves & Nunes
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed the latest on West Ham's move for Julen Lopetegui, and has explained what is now likely to happen after a verbal agreement was reached over the weekend.
West Ham searching for new boss
Another thrashing for David Moyes' side away from home, this time against Chelsea, saw any small lingering hope of his time at the London Stadium being extended quickly extinguished, and it has become clear that the Hammers are in desperate need of new blood ahead of the next Premier League campaign.
The 70 goals conceded this season is a record for any team Moyes has managed, while performances have been poor and they seem set to miss out on European football next season.

The Hammers had been eyeing up Ruben Amorim, and had held face to face talks with the Sporting boss, for which he subsequently apologised. But, after winning the Portuguese title with Sporting on Sunday, he revealed that he wasn't going to be swapping Lisbon for London or anywhere this summer.
"I'm staying at Sporting. I'm under contract and it's a special moment for me, for the club", he explained. "Now we will try to win the third title together. Let's try to make it happen."
Lopetegui deal agreed – Romano
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has today revealed that ex-Wolves and Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui has "agreed terms" with the Hammers to take charge this summer.
The pair had been locked in talks, and it had seemed like a losing battle at one point, only for AC Milan to decide to abandon their pursuit of the Spaniard, leaving the London side with a free run at their man.

With the agreement now in place, they will proceed to "formal stages", which involves the "details being finalised" and only then the "contracts will be signed", provided that there is no 11th hour change of heart from either party.
Lopetegui has been out of management since he left Wolves at the beginning of the season over a financial dispute, but appears to have won over the West Ham hierarchy, who are ready to now place their faith in the Spanish coach.
He will have significant work to do at the London Stadium, though there is undoubtedly talent available to him in the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta and Edson Alvarez.
Mohammed Kudus celebrates for West Ham
The home fans will demand that their style of football changes, with Moyes coming under fire as much for the performances of his side as the results across the last 12 months. For now though, it appears that the West Ham manager search is finally reaching it's conclusion.
Everton have often struggled within the transfer market, conducting deals that either see the club lose a lot of money or selling a player for well below his value.
Outgoings have been crucial for Sean Dyche’s side as they aim to avoid any further punishment for breaking the Premier League’s strict PSR rules.
He’s done an admirable job leading the club clear of any impending danger and securing their Premier League status for another season despite being hit with an eight-point deduction.
Everton manager Sean Dyche.
His side ended the 2023/24 campaign 14 points clear of Luton Town, with the club needing to build on their success in recent weeks ahead of their 33rd consecutive Premier League campaign which commences in August.
Whilst they’re not in the clear regarding any further punishments, the Toffees are in a solid place under Dyche, but it could’ve been even better had they kept hold of a couple of players who have gone on to develop into top-quality talents away from Goodison Park.
Ademola Lookman’s stats at Everton
Everton signed forward Ademola Lookman from Charlton Athletic for a fee in the region of £7.5m in January 2017, with the youngster touted as 'one for the future' by boss Ronald Koeman after he arrived at Goodison.
Arriving at the club as a 19-year-old, Lookman made an instant impact on the first-team, scoring on his debut in a 4-0 rout over Manchester City.
However, the goal against Pep Guardiola's side would be the only time he scored for the Toffees before leaving the club to join RB Leipzig on loan.
Despite his tender age, Lookman excelled in Germany, scoring five times in just 11 Bundesliga appearances – form that saw the youngster receive his maiden England U21 call-up.
Upon his return for the 2018/19 season, the forward was restricted to limited minutes for the Toffees, featuring for a total of 601 minutes throughout the entire campaign. Lookman subsequently rejoined RB Leipzig permanently in the summer of 2019, for a fee rumoured to be in the region of £18m – a deal that still brought a £10m profit for the Blues.
However, nearly five years on from his move away from Merseyside, the 26-year-old forward has taken his game to the next level – scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists in all competitions this season, which includes a hat-trick in the Europa League final triumph over Bayer Leverkusen.
Why Everton made a bigger mistake selling Anthony Gordon than Lookman
Despite Lookman’s exploits in the final victory, the club arguably made a bigger mistake allowing fellow winger Anthony Gordon to depart Goodison Park, with the youngster finally starting to flourish following his £45m move to Newcastle United in 2023.
The 23-year-old was expected to leave his boyhood club, in order to bolster the club’s battle against PSR, but that doesn’t take away from the fact he would’ve dramatically improved Dyche’s forward line.
Gordon has bagged 11 goals and ten assists in the Premier League in 2023/24, hitting double figures in both tallies for the first time in his professional career.

As a result of his excellent form, the “phenomenal” talent, as dubbed by Newcastle journalist Thomas Hammond, now boasts a transfer value of £68m, as per CIES Football Observatory Tool – a jump of £23m since his move just less than 18 months ago. Lookman, meanwhile, is said to be worth £42m less at 'just' £26m, according to CIES.
Gordon has also been included in Gareth Southgate’s provisional 33-man training squad ahead of the European Championships in Germany this summer, with the attacker staking a claim to be in the final squad given his superb performances for Eddie Howe’s side.
His move away from Goodison didn’t sit well with the supporters, but they simply can’t deny they would’ve loved to have kept hold of the youngster given his rapid progress at St James’ Park.
Everton hit gold signing star who'd be worth more than Branthwaite in 2024
He made a huge impact at Goodison despite his short stint at the club.
A bright August morning at Chester-le-Street; a morning of pitch inspections, warm-ups and applause for callow first-team hopefuls; a morning like any other; Well, not quite, of course. It is 310 days since Essex won the title at Taunton in 2019. This season is well-advanced yet it is just starting and no Yorkshire or Durham cricketer had a first-class run or wicket to his name this summer until Alex Lees pushed Ben Coad’s third ball of the match into the covers and scrambled a run with Sean Dickson. In normal times such an opening to a match might prompt courteous applause from the White Rose enclaves at Chester-le-Street. But these are nothing like normal times. The unpeopled stands at the Riverside, even the smaller one below the dressing rooms, seem as vast and austere as the Piazza San Marco. Scorecards were printed this morning albeit there was no one to buy them. Teams were revealed even though most of those in the ground knew what the sides were anyway. Cricketers announced things to themselves. And this will be our pattern for a while as cricket copes with an imperilled world. “And so each venture is a new beginning,” wrote T S Eliot in “East Coker”.Like others around the country on this curious day, the game featured debutants of various types. Lees was playing four-day cricket against Yorkshire for the first time since his departure in 2018 and his scuttled single foreshadowed over four hours in which Durham’s batsmen tried to chisel runs from the visiting quartet of pace bowlers but instead were bowled out for 103 in 58.4 overs. Gareth Harte, who made an unbeaten 33, was one of only three men to make double figures.Yet any thought that this Riverside pitch is shielding demons was quickly demolished. Yorkshire’s batsmen halved the deficit for the loss of Adam Lyth, caught at slip by Dickson off Chris Rushworth, whose first three overs had cost 27 runs. It even appeared that Steve Patterson’s batsmen would have a lead by the close but instead something of the lustre was removed from Yorkshire’s day by the loss of the three wickets in 11 balls just before the close. Two of these fell to Paul Coughlin who bowled Tom Kohler-Cadmore for a pleasant 41 and three balls later had Patterson leg before. Coughlin’s time at Trent Bridge was marred by so many serious injuries that no one could now wish him ill. He has already changed this matchAnd the game may even have been even been galloping towards a two-day finish had not a morning shower interrupted the cricket after half an hour and drenched the Riverside before the players had their boots off. That took care of play before lunch. The umpires made a couple of inspections but there was no irate member exhorting them to “bloody well get on with it”. Play resumed at 1.10, not that it brought Durham’s batsmen much comfort.Indeed, any encouragement they took from surviving the opening half hour proved illusory almost at once. Having survived a few leg before appeals from his former colleagues, Lees was pinned in front by an inswinger of very full length from Matthew Fisher. Nearly five overs later Coad nipped one away very late to Dickson, who edged to Jonny Tattersall. These successes would have been greeted with satisfied murmurs and even the odd cheer from travelling supporters but Yorkshire’s players had to make do with the rather quieter acclamation of two Headingley panjandrums. The Kirkstall Road folk missed an afternoon they would have enjoyed. Jordan Thompson replaced Coad at the Finchale End and enjoyed immediate success when he nipped one away from Cameron Steel, who edged a catch to Tattersall. Four overs later it was 41 for 4 when David Bedingham clipped Thompson dexterously off his ankles, only to see the ball skim straight to long leg where Fisher scooped up a fine low catch. Jack Burnham grafted away for 42 minutes in scoring seven runs but then lost both patience and his off stump when attempting a loose drive.Yorkshire’s bowlers allowed no reprieve. Patterson’s tactics followed the simplest of patterns: first Coad and Fisher bowled straight and full; then he and Thompson did the same. It brought Yorkshire three lbw decisions either side of tea as home batsmen took liberties which, while not diabolical, were certainly unwise. Mathew Potts helped Harte put on 17 for the ninth wicket but then clipped Coad to Fisher at square leg. Rushworth misdrove his third ball back to Coad and Harte was left unbeaten after battling away for over two hours, his innings marked mainly by grimy application but also by fours either worked through the slips or driven past the off-side field. When Yorkshire had hit as many boundaries in 11.2 overs as Durham had managed in their entire innings, the shape of the game looked clear. But now there is far more doubt about the matter, especially if Dawid Malan can be removed early on the second day. Like this truncated season itself, the match is in the hazard. “Every attempt is a wholly new start,” Eliot said, before adding gloomily, “and a different kind of failure.” Many batsmen around England would already nod in grim appreciation this August evening. Let us hope ECB officials are not also doing so before the leaves turn brittle and coppery.

Tim Bresnan, the former England and Yorkshire allrounder, has joined Warwickshire on a two-year deal that will keep him at Edgbaston until the end of the 2022 season.Bresnan will join the club initially on a loan deal, subject to ECB clearance, which covers the remainder of the 2020 county season.”I’m thrilled to be joining Warwickshire,” said Bresnan. “It’s a club that I’ve always admired, and I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed playing at Edgbaston with Yorkshire and England.”I’ve had some great conversations with Paul Farbrace about the way that he plans to take the club forwards, and I see this move as a great fit for both of us. I have still got a strong desire to continuing playing at the top level and to win, so hopefully I can pass on a bit of my experience to the young players who are coming through.”I know quite a few of the players well, so I can’t wait to move down and get cracking.”Born in Pontefract, Bresnan enjoyed a 19-year career at Yorkshire, and played a lead role in the side that won back-to-back County Championships in the 2014 and 2015 seasons. At international level, he was part of the England teams that won the ICC men’s World T20 in the Caribbean in 2010 and reached No.1 in the ICC Test world rankings in 2011. He also was part of England’s Ashes-winning squad in 2010-11, playing a key role in the series-sealing wins at Melbourne and Sydney.Paul Farbrace, Sport Director at Warwickshire CCC, said: “With multiple trophies to his name, Tim is a winner and he knows exactly what it takes to perform and to ultimately succeed at the highest level.”He has vast experience of bowling in the powerplays and of closing out games with the ball and bat in both white ball formats. In First Class cricket, he has the ability to bowl long and challenging spells and also produce game-changing innings.”With several young, homegrown players coming through, we also see Tim’s experience as a great asset to help these players understand what is required to reach their potential and be part of a Warwickshire team that can challenge for trophies. Having him on board is a fantastic move for the Club.”Warwickshire announced yesterday that its men’s squad will return to training on July 1 in preparation for the delayed start to the 2020 county season on August 1. Details of the formats and fixture list will be revealed by the England & Wales Cricket Board in the coming weeks.

Senior officials at Newcastle United are reportedly confident that the club have found the perfect off-field addition this summer, with the decision now in the individual's hands.
Big changes at Newcastle this summer
It looks as though Eddie Howe has done enough to stay on as manager of the Magpies, overcoming a rocky period earlier in the season to eventually come seventh in the Premier League. A sudden change of manager cannot be completely ruled out, should PIF have a big change of heart, but more focus is likely to be on backroom appointments and new signings on the pitch after the boss arrested a mid-season slump.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe.
One of the biggest stories surrounding Newcastle has been the future of director of football Dan Ashworth, who has now been on gardening leave for a number of months, ahead of what looks like a move to Manchester United this season. Work is being done to find a replacement for the highly-rated 53-year-old, with Crystal Palace transfer ace Dougie Freedman emerging as the front-runner to come in.
In terms of signings that could come in before the start of next season, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is reportedly wanted by Howe, as he eyes a reunion with his former player at Bournemouth. An audacious triple raid of Palace trio Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise has also been mooted, which could be more likely to happen if Freedman arrives at St James' Park.
Newcastle table offer for backroom figure
According to a new report from Football Insider, Newcastle have tabled a deal to Freedman to become their new director of football after Ashworth.
The update claims that senior figures at St James' consider him the "perfect replacement" for the Englishman, in what could be a significant appointment. It is stressed that "Palace remain hopeful of keeping the Scotsman and are making attempts to convince him to stay at the club", however, so there is no guarantee that the Magpies will get their man.
It is clear at this point that Ashworth will be United-bound if an agreement can be reached with all parties, but finding a successor is tough, given his reputation in the game. In Freedman, however, the Magpies could have a fantastic successor, with the Scot also a renowned figure in his field who got Guehi, Eze and Olise for a combined £46m in transfer fees
The trio are now thought to be worth a whopping £170m between them, and Palace owner Steve Parish has also heaped praise on the 49-year-old, saying: "[He’s been] really important. He’s a brilliant guy. He was the second manager I had at the club. He was instrumental in us getting promoted. He’s been instrumental, he saved the club [as a player] when we were about to get relegated from the Championship with a last-minute goal at Stockport. He got us promoted while playing for Wolves."
Freedman could see Newcastle as the natural next step in his career, no doubt enjoying his time at Palace but wanting to join a team who are playing in Europe next season.
