    WHAT LAZIO'S STATEMENT SAID

Lazio released a statement regarding Sarri's health, which read: "Coach Sarri is returning to Formello and, as scheduled, will lead the training session at 6:00 PM as usual.

"This morning, he underwent a thorough fitness check, more comprehensive than the tests conducted on the players at the Training Centre."

Crystal Palace chief Steve Parish points the finger at Nottingham Forest over Europa League expulsion as tensions rise

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has appeared to point the finger of blame at Nottingham Forest over his club's Europa League expulsion.

Days on from Palace being excluded from next season's Europa League after UEFA deemed they breached multi-club ownership rules, Parish has hit out at Forest – who took their place in the competition. He claims that if Evangelos Marinakis' side hadn't pushed to get bumped up from the Conference League, the FA Cup winners may still be in the Europa League next term.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportWHAT PARISH SAID

When asked if Forest had played a part in Palace's demotion by Gary Lineker, he said on The Rest is Football podcast: "We were told that and I think it has been made public, there doesn't seem to be a lot of confidentiality that comes out of certain organisations. We are led to believe that that is the issue; that if there wasn't somebody that wanted to get in [into the Europa League] as a consequence, then there wouldn't be a problem."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Parish also said that Palace will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over UEFA's decision to demote them to the Conference League. The Eagles have been jettisoned from the Europa League as UEFA said there is a conflict of interest regarding former co-owner John Textor, who also owns part of Lyon, who have qualified after having their relegation from Ligue 1 reversed on appeal. This could rumble on for a while at a time when tensions are very high.

After a lengthy wait to find out if Palace would keep their place in the Europe's second-tier competition, this matter with CAS could go on even longer. This episode could even rumble on when the start of next season rolls round in August.

Virat Kohli fined 50% of match fee for code of conduct breach

The RCB batter was upset at his dismissal against KKR because he felt the delivery should have been a no-ball

ESPNcricinfo staff22-Apr-20243:16

Explaining the new technology for tracking no-balls for height

Virat Kohli has been fined 50% of his match fee for breaching the IPL’s code of conduct during RCB’s match against KKR at Eden Gardens on Sunday.Though the IPL statement did not specify why Kohli was being fined, it is likely to do with his reaction to his dismissal for 18 off 7 balls, in the third over of RCB’s chase of 223.Related

Why Kohli's dismissal against KKR was not given a no-ball

KKR survive Karn scare to win by one run

IPL and Hawk-Eye join hands to end debate over above-waist no-balls

Kohli was caught and bowled off a high full toss from Harshit Rana, having played the ball well outside his crease. It was a slower delivery that seemed to be dipping on the batter, even though it was above the waist height when Kohli made contact with it. He felt the delivery should have been called a no-ball, but the new Hawk-Eye ball-tracking technology to determine such decisions ruled it as a legal delivery.According to the technology, the ball would have passed the batter at 0.92 metres from the ground if Kohli was upright at the crease. The height of Kohli’s waist had been measured beforehand at 1.04 metres, which means the ball would have passed below his waist had he been on his crease and not outside it, making it a legal delivery.Kohli was unhappy with the decision and was seen expressing his displeasure to the on-field umpire, along with the non-striker Faf du Plessis, who also thought it should have been a no-ball for height. To remove the subjective element in adjudicating no-balls above the waist this season, the IPL introduced technology to measure the height of the delivery as it passes the batter at the crease. That is then measured against the toe-to-waist height of the batter when in an upright position, which is recorded in advance. If the height of the ball is more than the recorded height of the batter’s waist, then it is declared a no-ball. Otherwise it’s a fair delivery. In this case, the projected trajectory of the delivery would have taken it 0.12 metres below Kohli’s waist had he been upright on his crease.”Obviously, the rules are the rules,” RCB captain du Plessis said after the game. “Virat and myself at that stage thought that possibly the ball was higher than his waist. I guess they measure it on the popping crease. In those situations, you’ll always have one team that’s happy and one team that doesn’t feel like it’s quite the right decision. But that’s just how the game works.”RCB went on to lose the game against KKR by one run, and are bottom of the points table with only one win in eight games.

Sussex thwarted by bad light as Northants cling on for draw

Bad light and determined resistance by Lewis McManus frustrated Sussex’s bid to pull off an unlikely victory over Northamptonshire on a gripping final day at Hove.McManus batted for an hour as four partners came and went and Northants lurched to 170 for 9 before umpires Paul Baldwin and Surendiran Shanmugam decided it was too gloomy even for spin with Northants ahead by 63.The loss of more than 100 overs eventually proved decisive but Sussex will have drawn a lot of encouragement after making most of the running, especially on the last two days. They took 15 points and Northants 13.Having established a first-innings lead of 107, they reduced Northants to 57 for 4. Skipper Luke Procter (41) settled the nerves before left-arm spinner James Coles revived Sussex hopes with three of the four wickets that fell in 7.1 overs after tea that left them 152 for 8.McManus and Ben Sanderson resisted for eight overs until the light improved sufficiently to enable Sussex skipper John Simpson to bring back his quicks Jayden Seales and Ollie Robinson for two overs each.Robinson responded with an unplayable yorker to uproot Sanderson’s middle stump, a fitting way to celebrate his 400th first-class wicket. Spinners Coles and Jack Carson returned but the light didn’t improve and the players shook hands shortly after 6pm.

Sussex had declared their first innings on 478 for 9 after adding 127 in 20 overs to collect maximum batting points. Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Danny Lamb extended their seventh wicket stand to 99 from just 14.1 overs with Lamb contributing 41 before Chris Tremain held an excellent low catch at midwicket off Sanderson.Hudson-Prentice, who made nine Championship fifties last season, demonstrated his effectiveness again with 73 from 60 balls and it took a clever piece of bowling by Tremain to remove him when he held one back and Hudson-Prentice drove to long-on.Even the normally frugal Sanderson suffered when Carson hit him for three sixes in a lively 61 from 53 balls. Aiming to clear midwicket again he was bowled to give left-arm spinner Zaib his fourth wicket.Related

Robinson and Seales plundered 30 runs from ten balls before the declaration left Northants with four overs before lunch which they couldn’t negotiate unscathed as Seales produced a lovely away-swinger which Justin Broad edged to third slip.Sussex gained further encouragement with three wickets in ten overs after lunch. Emilio Gay (20) lost his off stump to give Seales his sixth wicket of the match and Karun Nair edged Robinson to third slip with Coles taking a superb catch low to his left.George Bartlett drove offspinner Carson onto the roof of the South Stand only to perish two balls later before a stand of 73 between Procter and Rob Keogh steered Northants into calmer waters, for a while at least.Coles added to his three first-innings wickets with three more after tea. Zaib was well caught at slip trying to guide the ball to third man; Keogh was lbw to a quicker ball for a well-made 55; and Michael Finan taken at second slip on the drive. Carson sparked the collapse when he went round the wicket to have Procter leg before as he aimed through midwicket.Robinson finished with 2 for 19 from ten overs in three spells and bowled at a good pace throughout. He will have been pleased to get through 32 overs in what was only his second first-class match since July 2023.

Jewell's gem leads Tasmania to bonus-point win

It keeps them in with a slim chance of reaching the final although a lot needs to go their way

AAP08-Feb-2024A bonus-point defeat of Queensland at the Gabba kept Tasmania’s slim hopes of a One-Day Cup final appearance alive entering the final round. They bowled Queensland out for 150 and chased down the total in just 27 overs with five wickets in hand.Tasmanian opener Caleb Jewell (61 off 68 balls) batted with a rare freedom in otherwise tricky conditions. Jewell’s knock ensured there were few nervous moments for the visitors, who were 63 for 3 before he hit top gear to get his side within striking distance.Mac Wright hit two sixes in his confident cameo, and Beau Webster was unbeaten on 20 off 17 deliveries.Earlier Iain Carlisle was the pick of Tasmania’s bowlers, but it was Webster’s double-strike to dismiss set pair Matthew Renshaw and Max Bryant that started the rot.Fresh off a Shield century against Tasmania this week, Jack Clayton set himself for another rescue mission. But when he was bowled by Tom Rogers it triggered a lower-order collapse, Queensland’s last five wickets falling for just 10 runs. The result left Queensland in second-last position ahead of the final round, while Tasmania – providing other results go their way – can jump from fourth into the grand final with a bonus-point defeat of third-placed Western Australia next week.

Pep Guardiola claims he could take '15-year' break from management as revered coach reiterates desire to quit at end of Man City contract

Pep Guardiola has reiterated his desire to quit football management at the end of his Manchester City tenure. The Catalan signed a new two-year contract last year, which will keep him at Etihad Stadium until 2027, but he has claimed that following his exit he might consider taking a long break from coaching and focus on himself.

Guardiola says he will quit managementMan City contract expires in 2027City face Wolves in season openerFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

Guardiola started his journey as a manager in 2008 when he took the reins of the Barcelona senior team from Frank Rijkaard. After a successful four-year stint at his boyhood club, the manager headed to Bayern Munich before joining the Cityzens in 2016.

AdvertisementGetty ImagesTHE BIGGER PICTURE

The 54-year-old is widely considered one of the greatest managers in the history of the game as he won 12 league titles across three countries and two Champions League trophies. He was also the first manager in the world to win a European treble with two different clubs. The City head coach, however, is now tired and wants to take some time off and focus on himself.

WHAT GUARDIOLA SAID

Speaking to , Guardiola said: "I don't know. The truth is, I don't know, but I don't think I'm… I don't know, because you can also have large work groups that help you with certain things. I know that after this stage with City I'm going to stop, that's for sure, it's decided, more than decided. I don't know how long I'll stop for, a year, two years, three years, five, 10, 15, I don't know. But I'm going to stop after this stage with City, because I need to stop and focus on myself, on my body, on… In Catalan, they say 'badar'. 'Badar, badar, badar'… I want to do this, simply stop and watch the cows go by when the train goes by.

"My grandfather used to say, you look at me like cows watch the train go by. Well, that's it, you have to stop and watch it go by. And then life… I had never thought that I would coach, that I would go to Germany to coach, to England, and be the coach of Barcelona, or that I would play for Barcelona. We think we're in control, but no, something's bound to happen that'll put something in front of me, and I'll say: Oh, do I want to do this or not? And if not, well, I'll figure it out. And I think my plan now is this: stop, stop… And then we'll see."
