Reported by the , Onana has been named in the United squad to travel to Craven Cottage and is "in line" to replace Altay Bayindir after the Turkish shot-stopper was heavily criticised for his role in Arsenal's winning goal at Old Trafford on the opening weekend. Both goalkeepers have been named as part of the 21-man travelling squad to face Fulham, though Ruben Amorim has been cryptic over who will start in goal.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Onana has often been criticised throughout his time at United and the Cameroon international's injury this summer during pre-season gave the Red Devils more reason to seek alternatives in goal. But no new signing in the position has been completed as of yet and so the former Inter and Ajax shot-stopper may be given another chance to earn back his place in Amorim's side, after not being deemed fit enough to start on the opening day.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Talks with young Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens have accelerated in recent days and the Royal Antwerp keeper may arrive to compete with Onana in a ÂŁ17 million ($23m) deal. This could leave Bayindir squeezed out if that is the case, as Onana is not currently expected to depart Old Trafford this summer.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD?

If given the chance to start at Fulham, Onana will have the perfect opportunity to stake his claim to starting place in the new season before any further reinforcements arrive to compete. United and Amorim will feel that their summer business has improved the squad in an attacking sense, but there is also pressure to improve defensively this season if the club hope to make strides back up the Premier League table.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

United had been keen to strengthen in midfield during the transfer window, with a host of targets being linked with moves to Old Trafford. Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba was believed to be manager Ruben Amorim's preferred target but a deal could not be agreed between the two clubs.

Gallagher moved to Atletico from Chelsea for ÂŁ34 million in the summer of 2024 and has gone on to make 53 appearances for Diego Simeone's side, scoring two goals. He featured in his side's opening three La Liga fixtures this season, starting the 2-1 defeat against Espanyol before coming off the bench in the subsequent 1-1 draws against Elche and Alaves respectively.

Mason Greenwood reunion with Kobbie Mainoo? Marseille enter running for want-away Man Utd midfielder

Marseille have emerged as a suitor for Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo as the midfielder continues to push for a loan move.

United in Focus report Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi is keen on adding the 20-year-old to his squad, which also features former United youth products Greenwood and Angel Gomes. Ruben Amorim and the Old Trafford hierarchy had previously blocked any move for Mainoo but could warm towards a loan deal on the agreement it would be outside of the Premier League. RB Leipzig are also believed to be interested in the player.

Mainoo and his camp are reportedly pushing for the move as the youngster is adamant he needs first team football to force his way into Thomas Tuchel's plans for the upcoming World Cup. The German manager omitted Mainoo from his squad for the Three Lions' upcoming qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, with Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson given the nod in a revamped midfield. The 20-year-old and his camp do not want a permanent move away from Old Trafford.

DID YOU KNOW?

Mainoo hasn't appeared in either of the Red Devils' two Premier League games so far this season, remaining on the bench in both their loss to Arsenal and draw with Fulham. He featured from the start during United's embarrassing Carabao Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town.

WHAT NEXT FOR MAINOO?

United fans will be desperate for the youngster to remain part of the club's long-term plans at the very least, but Mainoo's agitation for more playing time could well force Amorim's hand. Either he has to find a role for the midfielder or allow him to play in another club's colours ahead of next summer's World Cup.

Winger Mikel Oyarzabal and midfielder Mikel Merino were also on the scoresheet, raising questions about the centre-forward role, but La Roja boss De la Fuente is pleased to have the goals spread out among the squad.

  • WHAT DE LA FUENTE SAID

Asked about Cucurella's spectacular performance in a post-match press conference, the Spain head coach said: "I completely agree. Sometimes those up front shine so much that we overlook other positions. This is the case with Cucurella, whom I congratulate on his first goal for the national team. But just as I mentioned Cucu, I could say the same about [Alejandro] Grimaldo or [Alejandro] Balde, who is injured, poor guy, but who is part of this group of players we manage."

De la Fuente also added that he isn't worried about missing a proper number nine in his team, adding: "I'm not at all worried about this because we have players who can score goals, and plenty of them. At the last European Championship, we broke Spain's all-time record for goals in the final stages, and we did it with ten different scorers from all positions."

Barca summer signing Bardghji has revealed the player with whom he shares the closest bond in the dressing room. The 19-year-old said Rashford is the team-mate he developed an early friendship with and opened up on how the two got closer.

Bardghji and Rashford are two of the three players Barcelona signed this season, along with goalkeeper Joan Garcia. The former Copenhagen sensation was signed for just €3 million on a deal until 2029. On the other hand, Rashford was signed on a season-long loan from Manchester United after the club failed in their pursuits of Nico Williams and Luiz Diaz. While the Englishman has featured in all three games for Barca this season, Bardghji is yet to make his debut for his new side.

WHAT ROONY BARDGHJI SAID

It's a fantastic group. It's like a family – something I haven't felt before in other teams – where everyone is really close to each other. Many of them have grown up and played together since youth football. It's not really a group of friends that you're with all the time, but everyone is with everyone.

"But in the beginning there was a lot with Rashford because we were new. I had played against him before and we lived in the same hotel. We lived next door to each other in the hotel so it was automatic that you got closer to him."

"Well, he's nice. Very laid back and calm person. Doesn't say much."

ExWHUemployee says David Moyes wants to sign West Ham "team player" for Everton

Former West Ham boss David Moyes has set his sights on strengthening his Everton ranks in January, with reliable insider ExWHUemployee saying he could now spark a reunion.

West Ham are bracing for a significant clear-out during the January window as Nuno EspĂrito Santo looks to reshape his struggling squad.

With the Hammers languishing in the relegation zone, several high-profile players could be heading for the exit door.

Niclas FĂĽllkrug tops the list of potential departures, after the German striker reportedly told West Ham he wants to leave in January. The ÂŁ27 million signing from Borussia Dortmund has endured a nightmare spell plagued by persistent fitness issues, missing 28 games for club and country combined last season, and has failed to make any meaningful impact since his arrival.

His agent has even admitted that a move away would be best for both parties, though West Ham insist they won’t sanction his exit until a suitable replacement is found.

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta is another player reportedly keen on securing a January departure. The Times reported recently that the 28-year-old outright wants to leave, with Fabrizio Romano also confirming in his GiveMeSport newsletter that a Paqueta exit is indeed possible.

Aston Villa came fairly close to signing Paqueta last summer after holding talks, but the move fell through, with West Ham’s star kissing the badge as a show of loyalty after scoring away to Nuno’s Nottingham Forest in August.

Nevertheless, an exit is apparently on the cards for him, as it is for out-of-favour midfielder Guido Rodriguez.

Rodriguez is actively seeking a January exit after a disappointing spell since joining on a free transfer from Real Betis in 2024, with River Plate, Espanyol, Club América and ex-club Betis all vying to sign him for a cheap fee mid-season (El Intransigente).

Young winger Luis Guilherme could also be moved on after failing to establish himself in the first team since his arrival from Palmeiras last year.

ExWHUemployee says David Moyes wants to sign James Ward-Prowse from West Ham

Finally, James Ward-Prowse appears destined to leave after being immediately axed from the squad following Nuno’s appointment.

Despite being a first-team regular and one of the captains under Graham Potter, the set-piece specialist is not in Nuno’s long-term plans and is resigned to departing in the winter.

Sharing an update on the 30-year-old’s future, ExWHUemployee has claimed that Moyes could look to sign Ward-Prowse for Everton after he initially brought him to the Hammers from Southampton during his spell in charge at the London Stadium.

Ward-Prowse actually did well under Moyes, making an impressive start and providing two assists in a 3-1 home win over Chelsea — becoming the first player to register two assists on his Premier League debut for West Ham.

His first season was rather productive. The midfielder, who Moyes called a “team player”, scored seven goals and registered seven assists in the Premier League alone, totaling 18 goal contributions across all competitions in over 50 appearances.

However, it was all downhill after Moyes left.

Ward-Prowse lost his importance under new manager Julen Lopetegui and was sent on loan to Nottingham Forest. The loan was then terminated mid-season by none other than Nuno, who was in charge of Forest at the time.

He returned to West Ham and played regularly under Graham Potter, but when Potter was dismissed and Nuno ironically became West Ham’s new manager, Ward-Prowse was immediately excluded from the squad again.

Now, Moyes is offering him yet another chance to shine at Everton, and he may well be eager to listen.

Australia could pick third spinner instead of Starc, if Green is fit

Both Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green are not yet 100%, as Australia wait to see how they shape up on the eve of the Test

Alex Malcolm16-Feb-2023Australia are sweating on the fitness of Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc before finalising their side for the second Test in Delhi starting on Friday, captain Pat Cummins revealed. Both Green and Starc trained fully on Wednesday as they continue their recoveries from their respective finger injuries but neither is at 100%.Cummins said no decision had been made on the composition of Australia’s XI as the selectors wait to see how Green and Starc recover later on Thursday.Related

Cummins: 'I don't think we need to reinvent the wheel'

Should Australia risk Cameron Green in the XI? Is there room for a third spinner?

Starc 'still lacking a bit of strength', touch and go to be ready for Delhi Test

Matt Kuhnemann called up as Australia face selection headaches

“Starcy and Green had good sessions yesterday and we will assess them later on today,” Cummins said on Thursday. “We don’t have a line through them yet, we’ll see.”Green is pivotal to Australia’s side given he provides a genuine fifth bowling option and also opens the door for three spinners to play in Delhi.Bowling is not an issue for Green but his batting and fielding remain a concern. He has not faced a fast bowler since he had surgery to repair his broken index finger after the Boxing Day Test. He batted for over an hour in the Arun Jaitley Stadium nets on Wednesday and faced throwdowns at full pace for the first time from Australia’s batting coach Michael Di Venuto as well as a lot of spin bowlers.Green also only caught hard cricket balls for the first time on Wednesday since breaking his finger on December 27 last year. They were also relatively gently-hit outfield catches before he returned to catching softer balls. If Green plays, he will be well short of 100% and Cummins’ conceded that it is a risk the selectors are carefully considering given his long-term importance to Australian cricket.”Having a right-hander helps and him providing our fifth bowling option also helps,” Cummins said. “He’s a big player. It certainly helps the team function well from batting and bowling.”You have got to be able to perform as well. He’s still coming back from that injury. He’s only had [one] session where he’s catching with a hard ball. He had a really good session yesterday. We will see how he pulls up.”If Green is able to play, Cummins confirmed Australia are considering playing a third spinner in a five-man attack instead of Starc, even if Starc is passed fit to play.”I think there’s a conversation,” Cummins said. “We’ll work that out by the end of today, I hope.”He’s one of the world’s premier bowlers in these types of conditions. We’ll see. As I said, the wicket looks like it might turn a little bit. I thought last week with two pacers, that attack functioned quite well but I think whether it’s Starcy, another spinner, Scott [Boland], variety in the attack does help.”Matthew Kuhnemann could be in line for his Test debut•Getty ImagesWho will be the third spinner? Agar or Kuhnemann?Cummins wouldn’t reveal which spinner would join offspinners Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy. Ashton Agar was the first-choice left-arm spinner on the tour and the incumbent second spinner in the team in the last Test of the home summer but bowled himself out of the side in the training camp in Bengaluru. He has subsequently bowled better in the centre-wicket practice after the Nagpur Test but he is now competing with Queensland left-arm orthodox Matthew Kuhnemann who could make a shock Test debut having flown into Delhi as a replacement for Mitchell Swepson, who left the tour for the birth of his first child.”We’re open to both options,” Cummins said. “We’re really confident both will do a fantastic job out there. They both had long sessions the last couple of days and looked awesome. If we wanted a third spinner variety we’d be comfortable with either of those two.”Given Australia’s horses-for-courses mentality, David Warner’s record in India has been a topic of concern following his twin failures in Nagpur. Cummins did not explicitly confirm that he would play but he was confident he would be in the XI and would find a method to succeed after being pinned down by R Ashwin for 10 off 41 deliveries in the second innings in Nagpur.”I’m not a selector. I don’t think they’ve had a meeting but I’m sure Davey will be there,” Cummins said. “You saw [last] year at the Boxing Day Test when he puts pressure back on the opposition, he’s pretty hard to bowl to. You don’t get as many good balls, so he knows that. I’m sure that’d be part of his plan. He has been batting really well here. Even in the lead-up, I thought he was fantastic. I know there’s a lot of talk about spin bowling through the middle but with that new ball it’s sometimes the hardest time to bat as well.”Cummins also revealed that Travis Head remains in the conversation to return to the side after he was sensationally dropped for the first Test in Nagpur due to his relatively poor record against spin bowling on the subcontinent. Head’s value with the ball gives him a chance of a recall if Green doesn’t play, as Australia did not get much out of their fifth bowling option in Marnus Labuschagne during the first Test. Cummins was full of praise for how Head had handled his omission.”Trav has been awesome,” Cummins said. “[He’s] been working really hard out the back on his game. He’s been fantastic around the squad like he always is. There’s always plenty of fun wherever Heady is. He’s absolutely part of the conversations for this Test, just like the first Test so he couldn’t be doing any more. He’s been fantastic.”
