Perfect Son & Kulu hybrid: Spurs hold internal talks for £61m-rated star

Heung-min Son’s departure from Tottenham Hotspur was confirmed on Wednesday night, closing the curtain on what has been an incredible decade at the club for the South Korean.

He joined the Lilywhites from Bayer Leverkusen back in 2015, with no supporter able to predict the successful spell enjoyed in the first team in North London.

The forward made over 450 appearances for the club, scoring 173 times, a tally that puts him fourth in the club’s all-time highest goalscoring list – joining former teammate Harry Kane in the top five.

Heung-min Son – timeless record

However, it was undoubtedly the perfect time to depart the club, helping them end their 17-year wait for a trophy by claiming the Europa League title last season.

There’s no doubt he will be a huge miss, leaving a huge hole in the attacking department, which could see boss Thomas Frank delve into the transfer market in the coming days.

The latest on Spurs’ hunt for new additions this summer

Real Madrid star Rodrygo has been strongly touted with a move to join Spurs this summer, after he was made available for transfer by new boss Xabi Alonso.

It’s been reported in recent days that the Lilywhites are preparing an opening offer to land the 24-year-old, who scored 14 times for the Spanish giants last season.

Rodrygo stats

However, he’s not the only Brazilian currently on their radar, with Manchester City star Savinho a player they’re considering, according to GIVEMESPORT.

Their report claims no bid has yet been made for the 21-year-old, but Frank’s side have held internal talks for the forward, who registered 14 combined goals and assists in 2024/25.

It also states the player may fall down the pecking order at the Etihad throughout the upcoming campaign, which could see the attacker, who’s valued at £61m by FootballTransfers, depart Pep Guardiola’s side.

Why Spurs’ latest target would be the perfect Son & Kulu hybrid

Despite Son’s departure from Spurs, new boss Frank will be hoping to rely upon Dejan Kulusevski within the final third this season, with the Swede able to continue his tremendous form from the 2024/25 campaign.

The 25-year-old has had injury struggles in recent times and is expected to miss the start of the new campaign, but could prove to be a vital option if the side are to rise up the table in the near future.

The Swede registered 21 combined goals and assists in his 50 outings for the club last season, subsequently offering a versatile option within the attacking areas for the Lilywhites.

He can operate off either flank or in a number 10 position, something which could prove to be useful after it was confirmed James Maddison needed surgery on his ACL injury.

Savinho could also prove to be another key option, having similar levels of adaptability, able to feature across the frontline, which could see him be a suitable replacement for the outgoing South Korean.

He’s been labelled as a similar player to both Son and Kulusevski by FBref, managing to outperform the pair in numerous key areas – showcasing why he’d be such an excellent addition this window.

Savinho, who’s been labelled “unbelievable” by current boss Guardiola, completed more passes into the opposition box per 90, along with a higher tally of key passes – showcasing the creativity he possesses in attacking areas.

He also notched more progressive carries per 90, with more of his dribbles with the ball going into the 18-yard box, adding another direct option to Frank’s already potent front line.

The Brazilian achieved a better take-on success rate and completed more crosses per 90, arguably being the perfect blend of the departed Son and current first-team star Kulusevski.

It’s unclear how much City would be demanding to part ways with the 21-year-old this summer, but it’s clear that he would be an excellent option for Frank in his quest for success in North London.

If he can replicate the levels produced by the aforementioned duo at the Lilywhites, he will certainly be a fan favourite and one that can add a new dimension to the club’s attacking department.

Man Utd women's player ratings vs Brann: European history! Hat-trick hero Elisabeth Terland fires Ella Toone & Co into Women's Champions League proper for first time ever

Elisabeth Terland was at her clinical best on Thursday night to fire Manchester United into the Women's Champions League proper for the first time, her hat-trick haunting former side Brann and giving the Red Devils a 3-0 win which rendered last week's 1-0 loss in Bergen meaningless.

A lack of ruthlessness condemned Marc Skinner's side to defeat in Norway but there was no such concern in the home leg, with Terland scoring twice inside the first 13 minutes to ease the nerves and put United in total control early on. The first was a gift from Ingrid Stevenik, the Brann defender who scored the only goal in Bergen, but the second was all about Terland's quality header – and the equally brilliant corner delivery by Julia Zigiotti Olme.

It looked like a hat-trick was going to elude Terland, though. She hit the base of the post just before half time and then had a goal ruled out shortly after the resumption, though the call of a foul against her certainly looked harsh. No matter, as the Norwegian certainly wasn't going to give up and she got her reward just past the hour mark, when another excellent finish made it 3-0 and ensured United will be in Friday's league phase draw, ready to make their debut in the Women's Champions League proper for the first time next month.

Had very little to do for the most part, but was assured on the ball and in collecting crosses.

    Jayde Riviere (7/10):

Did plenty of good work at both ends of the pitch.

    Maya Le Tissier (7/10):

Great on the ball and made one of the most crucial interventions any United defender needed to on the night, intercepting a good pass from Gaupset just before it put Eikeland through on goal.

    Dominique Janssen (7/10):

Good in possession and positioned herself well to be relatively untroubled defensively.

    Anna Sandberg (7/10):

Got forward plenty to be a real asset in attack. Covered well when needed, too.

    Midfield

    Julia Zigiotti Olme (8/10):

Ran the show in midfield with a classy display.

    Hinata Miyazawa (7/10):

Did a lot of work off the ball that can go under-appreciated but is so important.

    Fridolina Rolfo (7/10):

A really lively introduction, with her nearly creating one goal and scoring another just minutes after being introduced.

    Lisa Naalsund (N/A):

Injected energy into the game and filled in admirably at right-back as United saw the game out.

    Rachel Williams (N/A):

    Marc Skinner (7/10):

Didn't change much after what was actually a good performance in the first leg and his XI delivered the result he trusted them to. Subs injected new life into the game to squash any momentum for Brann.

Bigger talent than Garnacho: Chelsea in race for "generational" £70m star

Are Chelsea genuine title contenders?

Well, the Blues certainly looked the part on Friday night, demolishing an admittedly hopeless West Ham United 5-1 at the London Stadium, all the goals coming during a 39 minute spree either side of half time.

Summer signing João Pedro scored his first Premier League goal for the club, while fellow new recruit Estêvão Willian played a starring role, with Liam Delap starting up front, before Jamie Gittens and Jorrel Hato were both introduced later on.

In all, the Blues have brought in nine new recruits this summer, only a few of whom are calling Strasbourg home for now, spending around £262m, but they’re not done yet, so could they sign a “generational” Premier League star before Monday’s deadline?

Chelsea chasing more talent

One deal that has not gone through, but is expected to before the transfer window slams shut, is Alejandro Garnacho’s move to Stamford Bridge.

As noted by Simon Johnson of The Athletic, this deal cannot be finalised until Chelsea sell players, looking to move on Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi, David Datro Fofana, Alfie Gilchrist and others.

Garnacho remains “keen” on the switch to West London, but should Chelsea actually focus on signing another of Manchester United’s semi-outcasts.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Well, it is being reported by United in Focus that Chelsea are in the race to sign Kobbie Mainoo from Old Trafford, while Tottenham, Brighton, Fulham and Brentford are also noted as holding a long-standing interest in the £70m-rated sensation.

They add that Mainoo is currently considering his future at Old Trafford, having been an unused substitute for both Premier League fixtures so far, with Rúben Amorim favouring Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte, who are hardly making themselves undroppable.

So, could the England international actually be the man to make the move from Man United to Chelsea in the next few days?

What Kobbie Mainoo would bring to Chelsea

What makes Mainoo’s lack of minutes this season particularly baffling is how integral he has been to Man United in the very recent past.

The highlight of the Erik ten Hag era was undoubtedly the FA Cup triumph, and Mainoo was excellent in the final victory over Manchester City, scoring, what turned out to be, the winning goal at Wembley.

Last season, despite spending two periods of time on the sidelines due to injury, the England international still accumulated 37 appearances across all competitions, starting 23 of these matches, most memorably scoring during the famous comeback victory over Olympique Lyonnais.

Teammate Rasmus Højlund even described Mainoo as a “generational talent” back in February 2024, but how does his importance to Man United compare to Garnacho?

Let’s find out.

As the table outlines, Garnacho, who is a year older, does have more club-level experience, but is he the bigger talent?

Well, Mainoo has made himself more of an important figure at Man United, with Amorim labelling him a “big talent”, adding that he has “big plans” for the “perfect” defensive midfielder, while Garnacho, on the other hand, has been told to find a new club, part of the infamous bomb squad at Carrington.

This is partly due to Garnacho’s off-field issues, with teammate Bruno Fernandes admitting that the winger does not “have the best attitude”, which is certainly a concern, and something that has never been accused of Mainoo.

The duo’s respective international careers are also telling.

At last summer’s Copa América, Garnacho’s only appearance came during a dead-rubber group game against Peru in Miami, adding only two caps in an Argentina shirt in the subsequent 12 months.

Concurrently, over at Euro 2024, Mainoo was viewed as England’s saviour, introduced as a half-time substitute during the final group game against Slovenia, before starting all four knockout phase fixtures, including the narrow final defeat at the hands of Spain.

Thus, while Garnacho is a precocious talent, he is something of a maverick, often inconsistent, and paying £40m for him could be viewed as a massive risk; Chelsea could end up with another João Félix or Mykhailo Mudryk on their hands.

Mainoo, on the other hand, appears to be a model professional, still with plenty of room to develop, so taking advantage of the turmoil at Old Trafford and snapping him up might just be the smart move.

Arsenal "want to move very quickly" to sign "special" £55m Tottenham target

Arsenal now “want to move very quickly” to sign a “special” Tottenham Hotspur target, and talks with his camp are currently ongoing, journalist Sebastien Vidal has revealed.

Gunners step up pursuit of new attacker after Lookman blow

Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman handed in a transfer request earlier in the window, which could’ve paved the way for a move to the Emirates Stadium, but the Gunners have recently been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the London-born forward.

Consequently, Mikel Arteta’s side will have to move on to alternative options, and they remain interested in signing Real Madrid star Rodrygo, with transfer expert Graeme Bailey revealing they are “waiting for a signal” from the Brazilian forward.

Rodrygo in action for Real Madrid.

Tottenham are also in the race for the 24-year-old, with it recently being revealed that Thomas Frank has also approved a move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, which could be a concern for Arsenal, who are also well-known to be interested.

In fact, the Gunners have now agreed a £55m fee with Crystal Palace, with the deal edging closer to completion, although there are still a few issues to sort out, such as the structure of the installments.

As such, the door could still be open for Spurs to make a late move, which is why Arteta’s side “want to move very quickly” to sign Eze, according to a recent update from Vidal on X.

Tottenham now discuss signing "genius" £25m attacker who's keen on PL move

Spurs have now held talks over the signing of an attacking midfielder.

ByDominic Lund Aug 11, 2025

The journalist states that Arsenal representatives were sent to the Community Shield final against Liverpool, in order to “maintain contact” with the 27-year-old’s camp and “avoid any setbacks”.

Tottenham have also identified the Palace star as a “priority” target, but a deal may not be possible for either of the north London clubs until Crystal Palace secure a replacement.

"Special" Eze would surely favour move to Arsenal

While Spurs ultimately secured Champions League qualification via their Europa League triumph, they finished 17th in the Premier League last season, which is likely to be in the back of the attacking midfielder’s mind.

Arsenal, on the other hand, have been knocking on the door for the past three seasons, and having finally signed a top striker in the form of Viktor Gyokeres, this could be the year they end their long wait to win the Premier League title.

As such, the England international would surely favour a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, and barring any late hitches, it looks like the Gunners will get a deal done, which is exciting news, off the back of a very impressive 2024-25 campaign.

Lauded as “special” by members of the media, Eze is clearly now entering the prime of his career, and he could be a difference-maker for Arsenal in their pursuit of the Premier League title.

Christian Eriksen admits Man Utd legends like Gary Neville & Roy Keane 'not helping players' with public criticism as ex-Red Devils star calls for more 'realistic' expectations

Former Manchester United star Christian Eriksen believes that public criticism from club legends such as Gary Neville and Roy Keane is not helping the Red Devils. Ruben Amorim's side have endured another tough start to the Premier League season and the Denmark international feels more realistic expectations are needed from pundits and former players.

Man Utd's struggles continue under Amorim

Former Red Devils including Neville and Keane have refused to hold back in their criticism of United in their role as television commentators and pundits. Amorim's side have endured another tough start to the campaign and currently sit in 11th place in the Premier League table and have already been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two minnows Grimsby.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportEriksen takes aim at ex-Man Utd player pundits

"You see how big the club is, how much people want to be involved with the club, even on the media attention," he told ESPN. "I think even now we speak about United here. It's just the power of the club. Obviously the more opinionated, the more feelings towards the club are negative, the tougher it is, because the fans follow their heroes on the TV and it doesn't help the players at the club. At the same time at United, as a footballer, there's always someone who has an opinion on one or the other, but you're just playing football. You try to focus on that bit, and I think United were good at that. The focus was on the game itself and not so much what people say."

Former Man Utd star calls for more realistic expectations

Eriksen won the FA Cup and the EFL Cup during his time at Manchester United but feels domestic cups aren't given the same importance at Old Trafford than at other clubs.

"It probably depends who you ask. If you ask a fan, they want to be back to winning the league every year for the next 20 years like they did … this time of football it is almost impossible, to do that with so many other clubs having that many good players around. It's tough," he added.

"I think obviously they want to get back to that to being stable as a top club, but even being there, winning the FA Cup and the Carabao in the last two seasons is something that any other club would be proud of to have done. Then there is also the size and the image and the feeling at United — it's like it's not good enough. I think hopefully that will change. Even the Carabao [Cup] is a small thing, but at that moment it is a big thing."

Newcastle now offered chance to sign £69m striker they’ve scouted for years

After Wolverhampton Wanderers rejected their opening bid to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen, Newcastle United have now reportedly been offered the chance to sign a different Scandinavian star.

Newcastle's striker search rumbles on as Larsen move stalls

From the very start of the transfer window, Newcastle have been on the hunt for a striker. It’s a search that started with Joao Pedro and Bryan Mbeumo, who both chose Chelsea and Manchester United instead. The Magpies then turned to Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sekso, who rejected them in favour of Liverpool and Old Trafford once again.

Eddie Howe found Newcastle's new Isak vs Liverpool and it's not Osula

Newcastle lost to Liverpool, yet put in an incredible performance at St. James’ Park.

ByAngus Sinclair Aug 26, 2025

Meanwhile, Yoane Wissa is now back in training with Brentford in another blow for the Magpies. The 29-year-old has done everything to force a move out of the West London club, but has not seen an offer arrive that matches his valuation in return. Now, it looks as though those at St James’ Park are turning their focus towards an alternative in Strand Larsen.

On that front, however, it’s so far been a familiar story for Newcastle amid reports that Wolves have rejected their opening offer worth £50m. And whilst they’re expected to submit an improved offer, there’s no denying that time is running out to satisfy Wolves’ demands.

As an alternative to Wissa, Strand Larsen would certainly make sense. The powerful striker enjoyed an excellent debut campaign in the Premier League last time out – scoring 14 goals – and is still a player full of potential.

Once again, however, there remain question marks over Newcastle’s willingness to match the price tag that has been set and there are still other options that they could turn to this week.

Newcastle offered chance to sign Harder

According to The Boot Room’s Graeme Bailey, Newcastle have now been offered the chance to sign Conrad Harder from Sporting CP this month.

The forward has been the subject of interest from AC Milan, who are reportedly working on a deal to secure his signature following the collapse of Victor Boniface’s move. But the door is still seemingly ajar for Newcastle to swoop in after receiving contact from intermediaries about a potential deal.

Conrad Harder for Sporting Club.

Bailey told TBR: “Intermediaries have made contact with Newcastle to inform them of the availability of Harder. We understand that Harder is a player that Newcastle have previously scouted. Newcastle are in the market for two new strikers before the window closes.”

Dubbed a “complete” forward by scout Jacek Kulig, Harder is full of potential at just 20 years old and coming off the back of a promising season at Sporting. With a deal seemingly there to be done for around £20m and not his £69m release clause too, Newcastle could land an absolute bargain.

The successful chase was the eighth biggest ever in the 14-year history of the BBL, and the biggest in any match at the SCG. It also kept Melbourne Stars winless after four games with their finals hopes fading fast, while Sixers remain undefeated after three matches. But for stages on Boxing Day, the Stars appeared the team on top in front of a crowd of 23,212.Duckett was all power for the visitors, bringing his blend of Bazball to the Big Bash with 68 from 29 balls. England’s destroyer became only the second player in BBL history to hit six fours in an over, unleashing a flurry of pull shots and reverse sweeps off spinner Akeal Hosein. He also took to fellow spinner Todd Murphy, launching a big slog-sweep for six to bring up his half-century off 22 balls.Jackson Bird copped similar treatment with two straight fours and a six on the next ball, before having the left-handed opener caught at deep third man.Glenn Maxwell also hit 32 off 17 for the Stars, who were at one stage 126 for 3 after 10.2 overs before Murphy and Ben Dwarshuis pegged them back. And while the Stars took only 16 from their two power surge overs and fell away late, Sixers did the opposite with the bat. After Josh Philippe and Vince put on 83 for the first wicket inside eight overs, the hosts went even quicker in the second half of their innings. Jordan Silk and Vince took 35 off their two power surge overs from Peter Siddle and Maxwell, with Vince in particular going after the latter. He hit four sixes in total, with two coming off Maxwell, one deep over midwicket off Tom Curran and another when he hit fingerspinner Doug Warren inside out over cover. The opener reached the rope another 12 times in his knock, registering more boundaries than he did dot balls to keep the Sixers’ chase well and truly on track. The 57-ball century made Vince only the second player to bring up three figures in Sixers colours, after narrowly missing out a hundred in the 2021 final.
